Romeoville Concludes First Public Safety Academy The Public Safety Academy, which is a joint effort between the Romeoville Police, Fire, and Emergency Management Agency, held their first graduation ceremony at the last Village Board Meeting. The 11-week course instructed residents on the tools and techniques used by these first responder agencies and was extremely hands on, seeing students moving and using real fire hoses, flying drones, shooting tasers, and even doing jiu-jitsu, among many other things. “People appreciate our first responders, but I think when they go through the same training and use the same tools themselves, they come to appreciate them even more,” said Mayor Noak. “Not only that, but now this graduating class has a better understanding of how and why certain techniques are used.” The Public Safety Academy is open to Romeoville residents and is held once a year beginning in the spring. It is free to attend but registration is required due to the limited class size.
