What started out as a walk drawing a few hundred, has grown to nearly 12,000 individuals coming together to build immigrant power. Southwest Suburban Immigrant Project celebrated the 7th annual Day of the Immigrant Sept. 23 at the Bolingbrook Performing Arts Center where families, residents, community organizations, local politicians, and
supporters traveling from throughout the Chicago area came together to celebrate the power of culture. Joining SSIP in the celebration were emcees Vicente Serrano, Mariallen Magana-La Pecadora and Miguel Angel Sanchez. A family-fun event, the day included a resource fair, kids’ activities, live music, dance performances, beer garden, and ethnic food vendors.
