Pair of locals to represent Illinois Shotokan Karate Club overseas

In with the new and out with the old is the famous cliché — right?

Well, forget about the famous duo Mr. Miyagi and Daniel-San, because Julia Rodriguez and Alyssa Floresca are the new sheriffs in town.

The two dynamic athletes, who have yet to even reach high school, have more clout in the karate world than they have trophies, and that is saying a lot.

These two members who are part of the Illinois Shotokan Karate Club, which is the largest karate club in the country, are

going to be taking their talents to Brazil to represent the United States as well as the US Jr. Olympic team.

“It was nerve-racking for me, but it was really exciting to see all the competitors and winning was just so much fun,” Floresca said.

Rodriguez also admitted there was some trepidation participating at the high ranks, but in the end the victory and experience were all worth it.

“Well to be honest, at first it was really scary,” Rodriguez said.

“This really took a lot of work and a lot of dedication because I’ve trained every day, and to come out on top like I did, I was just so happy after coming this far.”

Both Floresca and Rodriguez each received two Bronze medals for their performances in Reno, NV resulting in the chance to represent at the Jr. Pan-American games.

Both karate savants have grown up around the sport, but for Floresca, she knows it has always been in her bloodlines that have driven her motivation to be great.

“My brother actually started before me, so I always thought it was interesting seeing him practice and I wanted to be great just like him,” Floresca said.

Alyssa’s older brother Enzo, has also been a success story in the sport of karate mentoring his younger sister and competing at a very high level.

“I’ve always tried to be [Alyssa’s] coach because my dad was my coach,” Enzo said. “I’m actually a black belt, and I’ve always felt that I’ve been able to teach and help my little sister out.”

Alyssa and Enzo’s mom, Gayle, has seen what karate has done for her kids on and off the mat.

“Well, this was Alyssa’s fifth year of going to nationals and she’s an advanced level which

gets more difficult year after year,” Gayle said. “What it comes down to is even though they win every year, I see them grow so much within the sport and [karate] is making them a better person overall challenging them to strive and have determination by being the best version of themselves they can possibly be.”

As for Julia, starting at the age of five transformed her into wanting to keep getting better and competing at a high level, but it hasn’t always been a smooth ride with the sport.

“There was one point where being in karate was like a rollercoaster,” Julia said. “I wanted to do it, and then I didn’t want to but I just kept getting better at it so I stuck with it.”

Julia’s mom, Joanne Rodriguez, also sees the great deal of benefits karate supplies in a young person. “[Karate] is just fantastic,”

“This really took a lot of work and a lot of dedication because I’ve trained every day, and to come out on top like I did, I was just so happy after coming this far.”

Joanne said. “It’s a really good sport particularly for young girls because of the discipline side of it and the focus, but the ability they learn to protect themselves while being engaged and fearless is great.”

Alyssa and Julia have already reached many goals and aspirations to date, but with the 2020 Olympics coming up shortly, the dynamic duo will have much loftier objectives to accomplish that will keep driving their young legacy forward.

RomeoFest this weekend Plenty of fun planned for the entire family

The dog days of summer are officially upon as the RomeoFest gets underway while providing

carnival rides, live music, fun games and many more exciting activites.

“RomeoFest is our biggest event of the year,” Mayor John Noak said. “We have so many great things to do that people who don’t even live in Romeoville come out to take part in. Fireworks, live music, a carnival, a one-mile race, car show [and] the list just goes on and on. I’m confident that every-

one will be able to find something they enjoy at RomeoFest.”

This four-day event spanning from Thursday, Aug. 2 - Sunday, Aug. 5, will display a variety of fun-filled entertainment for family and friends.

The DJ Kick Off Party will start the festivities off on Thursday, followed by the 1980’s band Sixteen Candles, who will be providing the entertainment for the night.

Families can also enjoy the fun with laser tag, photo opportunities, musical theatre performance, animal quest show and kids trivia.

On Friday, the Goo Roos and Infinity will take the stage in Romeoville with laser tag, Jim Nesci Cold Blooded Creatures, Mad Hatter Bubble Show and another character photo opportunity featuring Kessie, Woody and Spiderman.

Transitioning to Saturday, an exhibit of local ability will be shown in Romeoville.

Students Post 28 percent increase in Advanced Placement Scholars Valley View Students Post 28 percent Increase in Advanced Placement Scholar The 2017-18 high school students in Valley View School District 365-U increased the number of Advanced Placement Scholars by 28 percent according to the results of this spring’s AP testing.

A total of 190 Valley View students earned designation as an AP Scholar by scoring 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams. (AP Exams are graded on a scale from 0-5, with 5 being the highest pos-

sible score.)

In addition, 35 students earned designation as an AP Scholar with Distinction, which is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and a score of three or higher on five or more of these exams. Those 35 students represent an increase of 67 percent over the 21 students who received the same designation in 2016-17.

A total of 34 Valley View students earned the distinction as an AP Scholar with Honor, up from 28 students one year ago. Those are students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of three or higher on four or more of these

exams.

Noteworthy among the Romeoville HS AP Scholars is Class of 2018 graduate Ashley Pitt, who took seven AP exams during her senior year earning five scores of five. Ashley will be attending Illinois State University starting this fall and will be studying nursing.

Noteworthy among the Bolingbrook HS AP Scholars is Class of 2018 graduate Abigail Bozarth who earned recognition as an AP Scholar with Distinction.

Abigail earned a score of five on four of the seven AP tests that she took. Abigail will be attending the University of Alabama in Huntsville beginning this fall and will study chemical engineering.

Jennifer Thomison Named BHS Asst. Director of Student Services The Valley View School District 365U Board of Education has approved the hiring of Jennifer Thomison to the position of Assistant Director of Student Services for Bolingbrook HS. Thomison is currently working as a Learning Behavior Specialist for McLean County Unit District 5 in Normal IL, a position she has

held since 2013. Thomison began her career as a teacher in 1995 as an elementary special education and kindergarten teacher. She has served as Department Chair of Special Education since 2001.

Thomison earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Illinois State University in 1995. She continued her education by earning a Master of Science degree in Education Administration from Illinois State in 2002. Currently, Thomison is enrolled in the Education Doctoral Degree in Special Education program at Illinois State.

Jillian Tsoukalas Named VVSD Executive Director for Grades PreK-5 The VVSD Board of Education has approved the selection of Jillian Tsoukalas to the position of Executive Director for Education Services Grades Pre-kindergarten5th. She succeeds Mr. Adam Hurder who is now VVSD’s Executive Director for Educational Services Grades 6th-12th.

Tsoukalas began serving in VVSD in 2016 as Director of PreKindergarten-5th Grade Math and Science. She began her teaching

career in 2004 as kindergarten teacher in Midlothian School District 143, a position she held for ftheir years before becoming a 3rd grade and 4th grade teacher until 2013. Tsoukalas then accepted a position as Educational Consultant and Regional Coach for the Illinois State Board of Education.

In 2015, she was named Curriculum Coordinator for West Aurora School District 129.

Tsoukalas earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from St. Xavier University in 2003. She continued her education by earning a Master of the Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Olivet Nazarene University in 2007, followed by a Doctor of Education degree in Teacher Leadership from Walden University in 2011.

Local dentist volunteer at mission Elena Saha, DDS with Dental Assistant, Timea Sara Volunteer Their time at Illinois Mission of Mercy Recently, Valley View Dental associate dentist, Elena Saha DDS, donated her time and talent at the fifth ISDS Foundation Mission of Mercy — which took place on July 20-21, 2018, at the Bank of Springfield Center.

In addition, she shared this effort with dental assistant, Timea Sara at Valley View Dental Romeoville location.

“I wanted to make a difference and to learn. I am headed toward becoming a dentist myself one day and watching everything helped me a lot,” Sara said.

Saha along with more than 1,000 volunteers (dentists, dental hygienists, oral surgeons, nurses and medical students) were there seeing more than 725 patients in just one day with a limit of one procedure per visit.

“Whenever you volunteer, you are not paid in money but love. Seeing the smiles come from patients is the best gift of all. This time was well spent,” Saha said.

This was the first time that Springfield hosted the Illinois Mission of Mercy, which has been held every other year

Since the inaugural event in Bloomington, thousands have gotten fillings, partial dentures, cleanings, extractions and other procedures at no cost. No tax returns, proof of income or green cards are required.

“I don’t think we even ask for a phone number,” said Sarah Jensen, program coordinator. “Anyone with a pulse and bad teeth is welcome, and that could be most anyone. These often are folks who are living paycheck to paycheck. Many of them are service workers who may have health insurance; they just don’t have dental insurance.”

It’s always been first-comefirst-served at previous events, but this year, 250 slots were reserved for veterans, who were screened prior to the clinic, to determine what they needed so that they could go straight to chairs.

Everyone else was evaluated, then treated, as they arrived.

Dr. Saha is a proud member of the American Dental Association, Illinois Dental Society, Chicago Dental Society, Will County Dental Society and the Academy of General Dentistry.

Lincoln the first president to make use of electronic mass media

BY STEVE TARTER Of the Journal Star of Peoria FDR used the radio, JFK scored on TV and Donald Trump expouses on Twitter. But the first president to make effective use of electronic communications was Abraham Lincoln.

His use of the telegraph, a tool used extensively during the Civil War, was one of the things that made Lincoln a unique communicator in tumultuous times.

“Two things set Lincoln apart in terms of his relationship with, and mastery of, the press,” said Harold Holzer, author of “Lincoln and the Power of the Press: The War for Public Opinion,” published in 2015. “His language was simple and direct enough to make press reprints of his speeches especially compelling.

Second, he courted journalists from the beginning of his career.”

Holzer, director of the Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute at Hunter College in New York City, added two more things: “(Lincoln) drafted editorials for his Whig and Republican newspapers and owned a newspaper, himself (as did his arch-rival, Stephen A. Douglas),” he said.

The newspaper that Lincoln purchased — in secret — was a pro-Republican, German-language paper published in Springfield just prior to the 1860 presidential election. “State legislators bought and distributed the paper in their districts,” said James Cornelius, curator of the Lincoln Collection at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum in Springfield.

Cornelius said Lincoln’s rise in Illinois politics was marked by a close relationship with the press. “He was often in newspaper offices up and down the state in the 1830s and 1840s. Hanging around a newspaper office was a good place to shoot the breeze — and exchange information. He also wrote a lot that was published anonymously during that time,” he said.

William Herndon, Lincoln’s Springfield law partner, observed Lincoln’s relationship with the press firsthand.

Writing in 1886, he noted: “In common with other politicians, he never overlooked a newspaperman who had it in his power to say a good or bad thing of him. The press of that day was not so powerful an institution as now, but am-

bitious politicians courted the favor of a newspaperman with as much zeal as the same class of men have done in latter days.”

Herndon recalled Lincoln writing to an editor of a small country paper in southern Illinois. “’I have been reading your paper for three or four years and have paid you nothing for it,’ Lincoln wrote. He then encloses $10 and admonishes the editor with innocent complacency: ‘Put it into your pocket, saying nothing further about it,’” he said.

Not long after, Lincoln sent an article “on political matters” to the editor - who declined to publish the piece “because I long ago made it a rule to publish nothing as editorial matter not written by myself.”

“Although the laugh was on Lincoln, he enjoyed the joke heartily,” noted Herndon, recalling Lincoln saying, “That editor has a rather lofty but proper conception of true journalism.”

True journalism wasn’t always on display in the newspapers that reigned in Lincoln’s era. Editors were not shy about taking stands — or taking shots — at the nation’s leaders.

“Let’s just say that the openly, proudly partisan editors of the Lincoln era — Republicans like Horace Greeley of the New York Tribune and Democrats like Manton Marble of the New York World — would not be surprised at all that today’s media outlets, like Fox and MSNBC, display the same kind of doctrinaire leanings, except (the networks of the 21st century) don’t like to admit it,” said Holzer.

“Partisanship was deeply embedded in the American press tradition, from the days of John Adams onward,” he said.

In talking about the “reliability” of newspapers, Lincoln is said to have joked, “They lie and then they re-lie.”

But Lincoln also said, “No man, whether he be private citizen or President of the United States, can successfully carry on a controversy with a great newspaper, and escape destruction unless he owns a newspaper equally great, with a circulation of the same neighborhood.”

Lincoln learned how to deal with a divided press just as he did with a divided country. “Mr. Lincoln understood the power of the press. He well understood the excesses of the media, especially during his presidency. On the whole, he was thick-skinned, but he did object to

falsehoods, calumnies, libel and slander,” noted Lewis Lehrman, author of “Lincoln at Peoria: The Turning Point.”

“Lincoln’s genius with the press consisted primarily in presenting arguments for the Union cause and emancipation which prevailed over the common prejudices of the day. His fairmindedness, even in the face of vicious press attacks, was apparent to all — in the end, even to his enemies,” Lehrman said.

Holzer suggested that a lifetime of reading, writing and negotiating with newspapers laid the groundwork for what Lincoln was able to do as president: reach the public with letters to the editor spelling out his positions on some of the much-debated issues of the day.

“With his dramatic letters of 1862 and 1863, Lincoln in some ways wrote the big three New York editors out of the equation when it came to molding public opinion,” the historian noted.

Lincoln’s habit of maintaining close ties with members of the press as president didn’t always set well with members of his Cabinet. Writing in his diary in 1864, Navy Secretary Gideon Welles complained: “It is an infirmity of the President that he permits the little news mongers to come around him and be intimate, and in this he is encouraged by (Secretary of State William) Seward, who does the same, and even courts the corrupt and the vicious, which the President does not. He has great inquisitiveness. Likes to hear all the political gossip as much as Seward. But the President is honest, sincere and confiding — traits which are not so prominent in some by whom he is surrounded.”

When it came to using the technology of the day, Lincoln learned about sending messages by wire from Charles Tinker, a telegraph operator he met at the Tazewell House hotel in Pekin in 1857.

By the time he moved to Washington in 1860, Lincoln was well aware of how the telegraph operated and ways he could use it, stated Tom Wheeler, author of “Mr. Lincoln’s T-Mails: The Untold Story of How Abraham Lincoln Used the Telegraph to Win the Civil War.” Lincoln not only installed a telegraph office at the White House but used that office as a situation room, allowing the president to communicate with field commanders in the nearest thing to real time that was available in the 1860s, noted Wheeler, adding that Lincoln sent out almost 1,000 telegrams during his time in the executive office.

Plainfield man gets 12 life sentences for sexually abusing 2 young children over a 10-year period A jury in March found David B. Libby, 52, guilty of 12 counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child Will County State’s Attorney Glasgow announces that a Plainfield man who sexually abused two young children over a period of 10 years received 12 consecutive life sentences for his crimes.

A jury in March found David B. Libby, 52, guilty of 12 counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child. The defendant was sentenced by Circuit Judge Sarah Jones on Thursday. Under Illinois law, a conviction on each

Class X Felony carries a mandatory life sentence, and the sentences must run consecutively.

Libby, who had unrestricted access to the children, began sexually assaulting the children when they were young. The assaults began in 2004 and continued through 2014. The sexual abuse came to light when an alert teacher contacted the school social worker after one of the children made a troubling comment on a written test. The

student eventually reported the abuse to the social worker, who contacted Plainfield Police.

“David Libby is a vile monster who engaged in the repeated and horrific sexual abuse of two children from a time when they were very young and impressionable,”

said State’s Attorney Glasgow.

“It took tremendous courage for them to come forward and testify against this vile and unrepentant predator. They helped police and prosecutors place him behind bars where he will never harm another child and where he will certainly draw his final breath.”

Libby admitted to sexually assaulting the children when he was interviewed by police.

The State’s Attorney noted it was a team effort that took Libby off the streets. He credited Plainfield Police for conducting a first-rate investigation and his prosecutors, Mary Fillipitch and Kelly Tebo, for their skilled trial work that secured the conviction

and life sentence.

He also applauded the staff at the Will County Children’s Advocacy Center, including forensic interviewer Jaclyn Lundquist, for obtaining recorded statements from the two children that sealed the defendant’s fate, as well as the director of his Victim Witness Services Office, Nichole Pasteris, who guided these children through a lengthy and difficult court process.

And he thanked Cheri Johnson, who supervises the handling of his team of therapy dogs, Kiwi, Jackson, and Mally. The dogs comforted the children at each step in the court proceedings.

Man gets 24 years for Drug Induced Homicide Dwight Musson, 38, guilty of Drug Induced Homicide and Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow announces that a Shorewood man has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for supplying the heroin that caused the overdose death of a young woman. At the conclusion of a bench trial, Circuit Judge Dave Carlson in October found Dwight Musson, 38, guilty of Drug Induced Homicide and Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance. The defendant faced a minimum of six years with a maximum of 30 years in prison for his crimes.

Judge Carlson handed down the sentence on Friday. He also

sentenced Musson to 11 years for the Unlawful Delivery charge. The law requires that this sentence be served concurrently with the Drug Induced Homicide sentence.

Musson, who was 34 at the time, had agreed to meet with the victim, who was 18, on June 28, 2013 so they could ingest heroin, according to trial testimony. The defendant lied to police, telling them he and the victim had gone together to purchase the heroin.

However, text messages entered into evidence at trial by Assistant State’s Attorneys Michael Fitzgerald and Peter Wilkes re-

vealed that the defendant already had the heroin in his vehicle when he drove to meet the woman.

These text messages proved that Musson was actually the dealer of the dangerous narcotic.

Musson callously left the unconscious and unresponsive victim in bed at his Shorewood home the following morning when he left for work. When he returned in the early afternoon and still could not revive her, Musson drove the victim to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center. ney’s Office has filed Drug Induced Homicide charges in 17 cases over the past nine years. These are often the most difficult and labor intensive cases to investigate and prosecute because the most critical witness to the delivery of the heroin is the deceased.

Including Musson, the State’s Attorney’s Office has secured convictions against 10 defendants for sentences totaling 89.5 years.

State’s Attorney Glasgow thanked the Shorewood Police Department for its dedicated and thorough investigation as well as Assistant State’s Attorneys Fitzgerald, the Chief of Major Crimes, and Wilkes, Chief of the Narcotics Prosecution Unit, for securing this important conviction and sentence.

Plainfield North’s Marcellus Moore was named the 2018 Gatorade Illinois boys track athlete of the year

In May, Plainfield North sophomore Marcellus Moore became the first Tiger to win an individual state track and field state title.

In fact, he won two.

Moore won the 100-meter dash with a state-record time of 10.31 seconds and claimed the title in the 200 with a time of 21.30.

He also anchored the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams that claimed state titles, giving Moore four gold medals in the event.

“At the age of 14 as a freshman when he ran 10.40, no 14-yearold in the history of the world has ever run a faster time,” said North coach Tony Holler. “At sectional he ran a 20.88 in the 200 and I looked that up and

the record for a 15-year old was 20.58 by Usain Bolt. That kind of tells you, this is not just a kid who wins races, it is something special.”

For his accomplishments, he was tabbed as the 2017-18 Gatorade Illinois Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year.

The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the track, distinguishes Moore as Illinois’s best high school boys track and field athlete.

“Honestly, I had no idea I was even in the running,” Moore said. “It was really all a big surprise when I found out I was a finalist. I woke up like seven in the morning and saw on Twitter that I was Illinois Gatorade SEE BEST PAGE 9

Benedictine headed to Division-II Lisle based university has begun the steps to move to a higher level

The NCAA Division II Membership Committee announced July 13, 2018 that Benedictine University has been granted access to the NCAA Division II membership process, thus paving the way for the Eagles to become the 16th member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) prior to the 2019-20 academic year.

“In January of 2017 we formed a committee on campus to review the process of making a decision from Benedictine jumping from [Division] three to [Division] two,” Benedictine Athletics Director Mark McHorney said.

“At the end of the meeting we wanted to present the situation

to the board of trustees, and after it reached the president we showed all of our findings.”

On February 1, 2018, Benedictine successfully submitted application for NCAA Division II membership.

A multiyear venture, the NCAA Division II membership process prepares applying institutions for a successful transition. The provisional process for Benedictine is a minimum of three years that includes opportunities for education, assessment and growth, as well as a chance to fully integrate the Division II philosophy, strategic positioning platform and best practices to be a successful Division II institution.

“The GLVC Council of Presidents is pleased to welcome Benedictine University as our

next member, following our unanimous endorsement of the recommendation from the league’s faculty athletic representatives last fall,” Dr. Rob Manuel, University of Indianapolis President and Chair of the GLVC Council of Presidents said in a press release.

During interim year one of the membership process (2018-19), Benedictine will still compete in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC), Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC), and the Midwest Women’s Lacrosse Conference (MWLC).

Due to acceptance into the Division II membership process, Benedictine will not be eligible to compete in NCAA DIII Championships, however the Eagles are eligible to win regular-season league titles and can also have student-athletes earn All-Conference honors.

Moore also paced Plainfield North to a third-place finish in Class 3A. “It means so much to me,” Moore said of the honor. “Track doesn’t get that much recognition and when Gatorade recognized, it was a special honor to be one of the best athletes in the country.”

While it may not get the notoriety nation wide, in Plainfield track and field has been a key story for a long time.

“A few years ago, the four coaches got together and we decided to call Plainfield Tracktown,” Holler said. “In track, we

Going back to the Winder brothers racking up pole vault titles to Kahmari Montgomery winning the sprint triple crown his senior season — and now Moore puts the village on the national radar again.

“Plainfield is really big for track,” Moore said. “For me, it started with Kahmari. I have known him for a long time and always looked up to him and I always wanted to fill his shoes or be better than him.”

Moore, who already bettered Montgomery’s state finals times in the 100 and 200 will look to add the 400 to his resume and repeat

the triple crown — and he has two more years to do it.

“I want to continue to get faster,” he said. “Next year, I know there will be big target on my back and I know there will be some more pressure, but I know I will be OK.” And after North, Moore has higher goals that may not be unattainable.

“I want to get my education paid for, but I also want to make the Olympic team and run for my country someday,” he said. “It has got to a point where dreams have become reality and more of my goals could be reality and if I just keep working hard, I can achieve those goals.”

Moore is not only an outstanding athlete.

He has maintained a weighted 4.32 GPA in the classroom, is devoted member of his church community. He has also volunteered locally on behalf of Feed My Starving Children, Cradles to Crayons and a youth football program.

“You hear all the time that someone is a better person than they are an athlete, but he really is a special kid,” Holler said. “The first word that comes to mind is humble and the second word is competitive and that is such a weird mix. He is such a good guy, but he runs like an assassin. The best sprinters have a reckless confidence about them and that sometimes makes them hard to deal with, but Marcellus breaks that mold. I don’t know if I have

ever coached someone who is so universally liked.”

As a Gatorade Player of the Year, Moore was able to select a national or local youth sports organization to receive a $1,000 grant as part of the Gatorade Play It Forward program.

Moore selected the Aurora Flyers Track Club as his beneficiary.

He also completed a brief essay explaining why their selected organization deserves additional support in order to attempt to win an extra $10,000 spotlight grant for the Flyers.

“I chose the Aurora Flyer Track Club because the organization has done so much for me and has played a huge role in getting me where I am today,” Moore said.

“I wanted to give back.”

“We want to distinguish Benedictine as a first class, Catholic and liberal arts program that is one of the best here in the Midwest,” McHorney said. “We know that the move to Division-II will expand our recruiting markets athletically and this change puts our name in these markets such as Indianapolis, St. Louis and Chicagoland much differently then if we were in Division-III.” After successful completion of the third and final provisional year of the transition (2020-21), Benedictine will become active members of NCAA Division II, enabling its teams and studentathletes the ability to compete in all GLVC and NCAA Championships.

Benedictine currently has 19 sports, 17 of which are offered by

the GLVC, including all seven of the league’s core sports: baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, and volleyball.

The Eagles will also compete under the GLVC banner in men’s and women’s cross country, football, men’s and women’s golf, men’s lacrosse, and men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field.

They do not have four GLVC sports, including men’s and women’s swimming and diving and men’s and women’s tennis. The GLVC also does not sponsor two additional Benedictine sports in men’s volleyball and women’s lacrosse, although the league is hopeful to begin sponsoring the latter in the near future.

“For us, there is now just five schools in the state of Illinois with a Division-II program which makes this a big deal,” McHorney said. “There’s just an incredible amount of opportunity for our university with this move, and we can’t wait to get started.”

If it’s your only car, you’d need to ask for an extra $2,000 to $3,000 to buy a little beater to drive until you can save up and get into something better. I hate all kinds of debt, Monty. But being $5,000 to $6,000

in the hole is a lot better than having $18,000 in debt hanging over your head!
