Valley View receives mixed report card Some areas exceed state average, some areas below

Each year school districts are held accountable by state measures of achievement, offering a look at its own report card developed by the Illinois State Board of Education.

Valley View School District is showing areas of improvement, inching above the State average in some areas, and underperforming slightly in others.

The annual Illinois Report Card shows the performance and progress of schools, districts, and the state overall on a wide range of educational metrics.

District administration recently presented a brief summary of the report card at the Nov. 13 board meeting, noting several highlights.

In regards to staff, VVSD has a lower student-to-certified staff member ratio at 10.0 compared to the State at 11.2 and VVSD educators have higher rates of Master’s degrees or above at 73.4 percent over other districts, averaging 60.9 percent.

meeting/exceeding PARCC expectations at 34.6 percent compared to the State at 34.1 percent.

VVSD has a higher percentage of freshmen on track to graduate at 89.6 percent compared to the State at 87.1 percent and has a higher 4-year graduation rate of 87.6 per-

cent, compared to the State at 87.0 percent.

However, the report card indicated the district is below state average when it comes to college readiness.

VVSD students who meet or exceed ACT college readiness benchmarks are at 40 percent, while the State

stands at 51 percent.

For students who enroll at colleges and universities, VVSD shows 68 percent, while the state average is 73 percent. And for those VVSD students who enroll in Illinois community colleges, 56 percent require remedial coursework, compared to

the state average of 47 percent.

Though VVSD is working to close the acheivement gaps between low-income and non low-income students. Achievement gaps display the differences in academic performance between student groups.

When comparing those two groups on the PARCC assessment for both English Language Arts (ELA) and Math, VVSD is performing better than the state average.

For ELA, the district shows a difference of 24 percentage points as opposed to the State’s 30; and in Math, VVSD shows a difference of 25 points versus the State’s 29.

Schools leading the district in terms of being ready for the next level include Romeoville High School at 35.1 percent, Jane Addams Middle School at 52.1 percent, and R.C. Hill Elementary School at 42.9 percent.

Thornton’s continues to expand in village Developer is expected to complete more than $4 million in road improvements to intersection of Route 53 and Joliet Road

Development will continue on a parcel of land, long vacant, at the intersection of Route 53 and Joliet Road with the construction of a Thornton’s gas station.

Last year, the village board approved the development of 83 acres owned and to be developed by Abbott Land Gateway, LLC.

A plan was proposed with a variety of uses consistent with surrounding properties, including industrial and manufacturing, in addition to a travel center, restaurant and a convenience store.

The development of this property has been considered long overdue and is expected to provide an opportunity for redevelopment of this entire portion of the Illinois 53 corridor, After a litany of obstacles

New Preserve budget to benefit local trails Portion of the budget will provide for a new shelter at Isle a la Cache Preserve in Romeoville The Forest Preserve District of Will County’s Board of Commissioners recently approved a balanced 2018 budget featuring a $1 million capital enhancement plan for preserve and trail improvements.

A portion of the budget will provide for a new shelter at Isle a la Cache Preserve in Romeoville.

This shelter which will accommodate up to 200 people will allow for the a variety of events and educational programs.

Accessibility improvements will be made to the preserve’s walkways and amphitheater.

In addition, the trailhead at Schneider’s Passage along the Centennial Trail in Romeoville will be upgraded with expanded and improved parking, a new latrine and benches.

Further highlights include: A 0.9-mile section of the Normantown Trail will be constructed from 111th Street south to Rockwell Lane in Wheatland

Township. Simultaneously, developers will be constructing a 1.4-mile section of the trail from Vermont Cemetery south to 111th Street. Both sections are expected to open in 2018.

A new, larger event shelter will be built at Whalon Lake in Naperville. The shelter will accommodate 200 people and it will replace a smaller lakeside shelter that has a 25-person capacity. The smaller shelter will be relocated to the north side of the lake along the trail.

More than 4 miles of the asphalt Hickory Creek Bikeway in New Lenox and Mokena will be reconstructed to improve accessibility.

The 2018 budget will also cover a major regional trail connection along Black Road that links the DuPage River Trail in Shorewood with the Rock Run Greenway Trail in Joliet. The link will include pedestrian bridges over both Interstate 55 and the DuPage River.

The District’s 2018 budget

includes $759,000 for the $2.6 million project, which is primarily being funded by two federal grants administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

“Our commitment to maintaining and enhancing our existing forest preserves helps us protect the investment our communities have made in their forest preserves,” said Board President Suzanne Hart.

The District continues to maintain its AA+ credit rating, which it has had for the past seven years.

“The Forest Preserve not only offers excellent opportunities for our residents to enjoy their many trails, facilities and programs, but also prides itself on being financially sound as evidenced by its strong AA+ credit rating,” said John Gerl, the Forest Preserve’s chief financial officer.

“We’ll continue to focus on enhancing and improving preserves and trails to better accommodate visitors and expand opportunities to enjoy the forest preserve system,” said Ralph Schultz, the Forest Preserve’s chief operating officer.

“This is a great project and it is moving along at a great pace,” said Mayor John Noak.

“We are definitely experienced with Thornton’s; they’ve done an excellent job and it’s nice to see the type of product they are building, bringing their newest developments to the corridor.

This station is also designed for diesel and moving this development up north and close to the industrial parks, we couldn’t find a better place for it. Being

able to utilizing a site that was very difficult to bring back to a useful life—we are very grateful Gateway is able to do it—it’s a great project for the project for the corridor.”

“They are taking very blighted area and making it viable again,” said Trustee Dave Richards.

Upon completion of the entire project, the developer is expected will complete more than $4 million in road improvements to the intersection of Route 53 and Joliet Road, including an internal road that will extended through the site to the south property line, eventually linking to Enterprise Drive.

IDOT, ISP, Tollway urge motorists to prepare for winter driving Motorists should practice basic winter driving skills and build extra time into their schedules As bitter cold creeps into Illinois, the state’s frontline weather responders remind motorists that preparation can help take the bite out of winter this season. The Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police and the Illinois Tollway encourage motorists to prepare for wintry driving conditions and remember: “Winter Weather - Get it Together.”

“Winter weather can be unpredictable in Illinois, but preparation today will make a safer tomorrow,” said Illinois Transportation Secretary Randy Blankenhorn. “Drivers should start easing into those winter driving behaviors now. Our snow-and-ice teams are ready, as always, to make this a safe, successful winter driving season.”

Throughout the winter, especially during adverse conditions, motorists should practice basic winter driving skills and build extra time into their schedules. As part of the “Winter Weather - Get it Together” campaign, all travelers are encouraged to follow these simple rules and tips during the coming months: Always wear a seat belt. It’s the law in Illinois.

• Slow down. Slower speeds, slower acceleration, slower steering and slower braking all are required in winter driving conditions.

• Drop it and drive. Put down the handheld devices - it, too, is the law in Illinois.

• Don’t crowd the plow. A snowplow operator’s field of vision is restricted. You may see them, but they may not see you.

• Avoid using cruise control in snow and ice.

• Watch out for black ice on roads that appear clear but can be treacherous.

• Be especially careful approaching intersections, ramps, bridges and shady areas. All are prone to icing.

• Do not travel during bad

weather unless absolutely necessary. If you do have to make a trip, check the forecast and make sure someone is aware of your travel route.

Consider taking public transportation if it is an option.

• Prepare an emergency kit that contains jumper cables, flares or reflectors, windshield washer fluid, a small ice scraper, traction material, blankets, non-perishable food and a first-aid kit.

• Carry a cell phone and a car charger in case of emergency.

• Follow Scott’s Law. Slow down and move over for stopped emergency, construction and maintenance vehicles.

“Winter weather causes extremely dangerous driving with black ice and white out conditions,” said ISP Director Leo P. Schmitz. “Plan ahead by checking your windshield wipers, vehicle fluid levels, proper tire inflation and tread depth. Remember to avoid unnecessary lane changes and as always, reduce your speed and increase following distances. Don’t crowd the plow. Give them room to work. A snowplow operator’s field of vision is restricted. You may see them, but they may not see you.”

Before leaving the house, drivers are encouraged to check GettingAroundIllinois.com for continually updated information on winter road conditions, weather radars, road and bridge closures and other trafficrelated information. The site was recently redesigned in a mobilefriendly format providing a more

convenient way to access important information quickly. The winter road conditions map gives travelers the ability to zoom in to their location, travel route or destination and get real-time road conditions. At any time, motorists can check travel conditions by calling 1-800-452-IDOT (4368) or 1-800-TOLL-FYI. “Winter weather can make driving challenging for our customers, so our priorities are to keep the roads clear and provide roadway information to help drivers safely reach their destinations,” said Illinois Tollway Executive Director Greg Bedalov. “In return, we ask our customers to protect themselves and our workers by slowing down and increasing their distance from other vehicles, particularly during storms and severe weather.”

For the upcoming winter, IDOT will have more than 1,700 trucks available for deployment to plow almost 16,000 miles of roads statewide, the equivalent of driving from Springfield to the tip of South America and back. Last year, IDOT spread almost 305,000 tons of salt statewide. This winter, salt domes throughout the state are at capacity, with more than 550,000 tons on hand. Four hundred brand-new snow plows are ready to be deployed throughout the state.

The new trucks are more energy efficient and will reduce air pollution.

The Illinois Tollway is prepared to deploy its fleet of 196 snowplows for winter storms and has stockpiled more than 87,000 tons of salt to keep its 294-mile system of five tollways clear and safe for its 1.6 million daily drivers.

Kokosioulis, Petersen lead 2017 Voyager Media All-Area team

Benet Academy advanced to the IHSA Class 7A state semifinal game for the second-straight season this year and after suffering injuries on the offensive side of the football all season, it was the defense that really stepped up and helped carry the Redwings.

The Benet defense allowed only 17.5 points per game this season, including five games holing teams to less than 14 points and a pair of shutouts – including a blanking of No. 1 seed Rockton Hononegah on the playoffs.

At the center of that defense was senior Devin Petersen, who posted 167 tackles on the season, including 54 solo tackles.

He had 12 tackles for loss, two sacks, four forced fumbles and one interception.

For his efforts, Petersen is the 2017 Voyager Media Defensive

Player of the Year.

“I consider him the heart and soul of our defense,” said Benet coach Pat New. “He is one of our hardest workers and we hate losing him because kids like that only come around one in a while. He has great football IQ, he loves the game and he is your prototypical middle linebacker.”

Like all team players, Petersen shined the light on his teammates for his success.

“I was very happy with how I played this year. My goal was to play better than I did last season and I think I accomplished that,” he said. “But all together, it was everyone and every single person helped. You can give the credit to certain people but everyone did their job and got us to where we are at.”

And while Benet fell short of the ultimate goal of playing in a state title game two years in a row, Petersen knows what being in the final four back to back SEE ALL-AREA PAGE 12

“Coach New was talking and one of the things he said that hit me the most was that we left a legacy that is going to make Benet more well-known and we are happy with that,” he said.

“We have to look back and be proud of what we have done.”

Maine South’s Fotis Kokosioulis is the 2017 Voyager Media Offensive Player of the Year.

When Maine South fell to eventual Class 8A state champions Lincoln-Way East in the state semifinals this season, it stopped the Hawks from defending its state title – this year in Huskie Stadium in DeKalb at Northern Illinois University.

For senior running back Fotis Kokosioulis, the loss only delayed him getting on Brigham Field by a few months.

The 5-foot-9, 173-pound running back has committed to play for Northern Illinois next season.

This year he put up 1,626 yards on 182 carries and 24 touchdowns and never fumbled the football.

He tacked on 31 receptions for 350 yards and five scores.

For his efforts, Kokosioulis is the 2017 Voyager Media Offensive Player of the Year.

“I looked at it as a compliment that teams tried to stop me,” Kokosioulis said. “It really helped us as a team if the opponent was trying to stop the run, it would open the passing game and then we could go back to the run. It was fun to be versatile and to be able to get the ball in the run game and pass game.”

He is an Illinois High School Football Coaches Association All-State selection for Class 8A, was the CSL South Offensive Player of the Year, is nominated for the Academic All-State team with a 3.54/4 GPA and is a candidate for the Illinois Gatorade Player of the Year.

For his career, Kokosioulis passed 2009 Voyager Media Player of the Year Matt Perez for school records with 3,952 yards rushing and 58 touchdowns as well as racking up 6,351 all-purpose yards and 73 total scores. “(Perez) was awesome and we watched his highlights and to be able to pass him meant something a lot for me,” Kokosioulis said. “I couldn’t have had any of these records without my team.

Not only did the line block for me, but the receivers blocked for me once I was past the line.

I hope there is a kid out there watching me and trying to be as good or better than me – that would be great. Coach (David) Inserra talks all the time that we have to play for the people that came before us, playing now and the ones that are going to come. So, it is cool if someone out there looks up to me and wants to pass me.”

Inserra said it was not only his talent that helped Kokosioulis get to where he got in the program record books.

“He not only holds all the records, but he may hold the record for showing up and giving 100 percent every single day,” said Inserra. “He is the toughest competitor and never took a short cut and that is why he has those records. He has never in his life taken a short cut and that says a lot about him and his family.

“At his size, he takes a pounding and he has never missed a day of practice and never missed a play and that is what I am most proud of Fotis for.”

JAXON AUBRY JOLIET WEST Junior quarterback completed 130 of 228 pass attempts this season for 2,001 yards and 15 touchdowns.

JACK BENISH BENET Defensive end tallied 97 tackles, 26 solo and 25 tackles for loss. He posted 13 sacks, 15 hurries, forved four fumbles and intercepted one pass.

“Also led the way for Ke’von ( Johnson) as a lead blocker.”

KE’VON JOHNSON JOLIET CATHOLIC Tallied 894 yards on 127 carries this season and caught 12 passes for 116 yards and 11 total touchdowns.

The three-year varsity player for the Hillmen, he was an ESCC All-Conference selection.

“Pound for pound, he is one of the toughest kids around,” Jaworski said. “He is a dynamic player in space.”

The do-it-all junior was the Dons top player, never leaving the field. He played offense, defense and all special teams.

His bread and butter was as a running back, where he rushed for 1,217 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also had 23 catches for 305 yards four scores. Overall he posted 1,522 yards from scrimmage and 23 TDs. Gavin was the MVP of the East Suburban Catholic Conference.

Junior center who paved the way for an explosive JCA running attack in the tough ESCC. The two-year varsity player is an ESCC All-Conference selection.

“He was the captain of our offensive line from the center position,” Jaworski said. “He also contributed on the defensive line.”

On defense, he posted 118 tackles, two sacks, 14 tackles for loss, one interception, forced one fumble and recovered two and scored one defensive TD. “Tommy was our team captain and truly the center of the success we were able to have this past season,” said Central coach Jon Pereiro. “He is an incredible football player who plays with passion and toughness not seen often.”

BRADY MILLER PLAINFIELD NORTH Senior quarterback completed 153 of 255 pass attempts for 2,197 yards and 18 touchdowns.

He carried the ball 42 times for 354 yards and another score.

SIR MUHAMMED ROMEOVILLE Cornerback tallied 23.5 total tackles, forced one fumble, had four pass break ups and blocked three kicks.

He also had three interceptions – all of which were returned for touchdowns of 36, 44 and 55 yards.

ZACH NADLE PLAINFIELD NORTH On offense he hauled in 28 passes for 366 yards and four TDs and added on a pair of rushing scores.

On defense, contributed 99 total tackles, including 54 solo – both team highs. He had five pass break ups and forced a pair of fumbles.

JOHN O’SULLIVAN MAINE SOUTH The all-CSL senior completed 166-of-267 passes for 2,349 yards and 22 touchdowns against only eight interceptions. He carried the ball 49 times for 128 yards and seven more scores.

“He can make any throw and has to make many pre and post snap decisions in our high tempo, complex offense,” Inserra said.

TANNER PLOWMAN WESTMONT Linebacker posted 91 total tackles, including 55 solo, to go with one sack, 18 tackles for loss and a pair of forced fumbles.

QUENTIN PRINGLE BOLINGBROOK Carried the ball 129 for 1,049 yards and scored 12 rushing TDs on the season. Was one of only three area backs to surpass 1,000-yard mark and rushed for 421 yards in a game this season, good for 18th on the all-time SEE ALL-AREA PAGE 14

ANTHONY VESPO BOLINGBROOK Senior completed 92 of 148 for 1,577 yards on the season to go along with 15 touchdowns.

SERGIO VILLALOBOS DOWNERS SOUTH Senior was named to the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Class 8A All-State team after posting 94 tackles, including 15 sacks and 36 tackles

for loss. He had 22 quarterback knockdowns and forced three fumbles.

He led a defense that played 15 straight quarters of shutout football and was the unanimous choice for West Suburban Conference Gold Defensive Player of the Year and was the DGS MVP. “Sergio is one of the most dominant defensive linemen we have had at South in the last 15 years,” said South coach Mark Molinari.

“His combination of speed, leverage, and hands made him unstoppable.”

DEREK WENTWORTH MINOOKA Junior offensive tackle helped the Minooka offense run and had a season-saving touchdown on a tackle lateral play in the playoffs.

“He will be a scholarship player in college next fall,” McCombs said.

Kelliher leads Lewis over Ferris State Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) had 37 points and 10 rebounds as the Lewis University women’s basketball team took down previously unbeaten Ferris State 81-77 Sunday (Nov. 26) at Jim Wink Arena.

The Flyers (4-2) also received 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists from Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) and 10 points from Tierney Lockett (Richton Park, Ill./Rich South).

Riley Blair led four players in double figures for Ferris State (51) with 17 points.

Lewis trailed 19-15 after the first quarter, but went on a 10-2 run to take a 27-23 lead midway through the second quarter and led 33-31 at the half.

The Flyers built their lead to as many as 10 points at 59-49 and led 61-52 after three quarters.

The Bulldogs rallied to take a 68-63 lead, thanks to a 16-2 run the first three minutes of the fourth quarter.

Lewis answered with 10 straight points to take a 73-68 lead before Ferris State scored the next five points to tie the game at 73-73 with 1:11 left in the game.

Hinders gave the Flyers the lead back with 45 seconds left on a layup and then the Flyers went 6-for-6 from the line to finish the game.

Lewis shot 51.9 percent (28-for54) from the floor, while Ferris State shot 33.7 percent (28-for83).

The Flyers open their Great Lakes Valley Conference season Thursday (Nov. 30) when they travel to take on Southern Indiana for a 5:30 PM tip.

MEN’S BASKETBALL Six different Flyers scored at least eight points, as the Lewis University men’s basketball team turned in an all-around effort in the 69-57 regional victory over Wayne State at Neil Carey Arena on Saturday (Nov. 25).

Lewis junior swingman Delaney Blaylock (Wyoming, Mich./Godwin Heights) posted a team-best 14 points and seven rebounds, while freshman guard Josh Niego (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice), redshirt sophomore guard Jake Reinhart (Bloomington, Ill./ Central Catholic), junior center Frank Vukaj (Davison, Mich./Davison) and sophomore forward

Donovan Oliver (Kewanee, Ill./ Kewanee) each chipped in nine points in the victory.

With the win, Lewis improves to 2-4 on the campaign, while the visiting Warriors drop to 1-3 on the campaign.

Lewis, led by a game-high eight rebounds from senior forward Cristen Wilson (Cleveland, Ohio/ John Hay), outrebounded Wayne State, 39-24 and the Flyer reserves outscored the Warrior bench, 317.

The Flyers shot 47.8% (22-for46) from the field and 33.3% (4for-12) from three-point range, while Wayne State knocked down 37.0% (20-for-54) of its shots and 40.0% (6-for-15) of its long-range attempts.

Wayne State guard Ronald Booth posted a game-high 18 points on 6-for-19 shooting, including two three-pointers, for the Warriors.

Lewis returns to action on Thursday (Nov. 30), as the Flyers open Great Lakes Valley Conference action against Southern Indiana. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM.

BASEBALL Lewis University head baseball coach Tim McDonough announced that Nick Barcarella, Dalton Crowder, Julian Everett, Nick Huisman, Matt Piento, Nick Stacey and Andrew Tenison will join the Flyers for the 2019 season.

“This is one of the largest groups we have ever had in the early signing period,” McDonough said. “(Lewis Assistant) coach (Mike) Vucsko did an amazing job with this class and even though he just came on staff in August, (assistant) coach (Zak) Larkin has his fingerprints on this class as well.

“We really made a conscious effort to get more athletic and more left handed and this class definitely accomplishes those two criteria. It’s a class with a terrific blend of speed and power potential with a couple of pitchers that have tremendous upside.

“The best thing about this group is their strong commitment to Lewis University. They all really want to be here and that is a huge aspect of the recruiting process.

These kids all play for successful high school and travel ball programs so they should be physically and mentally ready for baseball

in the GLVC and Division II level.

I am really excited to see them develop as men and as baseball players over the coming years.”

• Dalton Crowder (OF – 6’2” – 180 – Plainfield East – Illinois Edge) Crowder, a planned exercises and movement major, helped Plainfield East to a regional championship and a 22-16 record last year by hitting .290 with 30 runs batted in and added a home run.

Crowder has been on the honor roll every semester.

“Dalton is a player that brings energy every day, is coachable and fearless,” Plainfield East head baseball coach Adam O’Reel said.

“He has a great arm from the outfield and accurate.

“He will work the count at the plate and is not afraid to get the big hit. Dalton will be a great addition to Lewis University and coach McDonough’s staff.”

“Dalton is a driven young man who plays the game hard and with lots of passion,” Illinois Edge head coach Tony Sanchez said.

“As he grows, physically and mentally, his worth ethic will keep his ceiling on rise.”

• Nick Stacey (LHP/OF – 5’8” -165 Downers Grove South – Downers Grove Longshots) Stacey, an intended aviation major, was voted team MVP and gold glove as a junior at Downers Grove South, where he hit .350 with 19 runs batted in and one home run. On the mound he went 2-1 with a 1.81 ERA, helping his team to a 23-12 record. His strong season helped him become a First Team All-West Suburban Gold Division selection.

“Nick is a competitor who is hardworking, athletic and an excellent teammate,” Downers Grove South head baseball coach Darren Orel said. “I feel truly lucky to have him as part of the Mustang program.

“He is a dynamic player and person and I’m excited for the opportunity to watch him help lead Downers Grove South to a successful spring. Lewis is getting a tremendous baseball player.”

“I think one of Nick’s greatest attributes is his competitiveness, whether he’s pitching or playing the outfield or battling a pitcher

in an at-bat,” Downers Grove Longshots coach Jerry Stanton said.

• Nick Bacarella (LHP – 6’1” – 165 – Downers Grove North – Pro Player Canes) Bacarella, who plans to major in business, was on the honor roll his first three years at Downers Grove North. Bacarella helped his team to 17 wins his junior year, compiling a 1.82 ERA in 46 innings pitched. He also hit .295 and drove in 15 runs.

“Nick will be a three-year varsity player for us,” Downers Grove

North head baseball coach Chad Isaacson said. “He competes on the mound and has good command of his fastball along with very good depth with his offspeed pitches.

“Nick comes to work every day with the mentality to get better.”

Law school grad can pay off his own debts You shouldn’t feel as if you’re obligated to continue making these payments DEAR DAVE, Our son is about to graduate from law school. He took out a loan to cover the cost, but we’ve always been debt-free and have been paying on it to help him out while he finishes his studies. The balance on the loan right now is around $30,000. He has a job waiting for him after he graduates, so we’re thinking about telling him it will be his responsibility to finish paying off the loan at that point. Is that wrong?

PAT DEAR PAT, There’s absolutely nothing wrong with a young law school graduate earning a living and paying off his own debt. I hope he appreciates how generous you both have been, but you shouldn’t feel as if you’re obligated to continue making these payments after he finishes school and begins working.

PAUL DEAR PAUL, No, not really. Sometimes mileage alone can be a good indicator of the quality of a used vehicle, but that’s not always the case. I would also advise doing a little research, and maybe letting a trusted mechanic have a look to determine if there are any issues that might give you trouble soon.

The more inexpensive, and cheaply made a car is, the more likely it becomes that it would be worn down by higher mileage. Some vehicles start to get a little ragged at 100,000 miles, while others — some of the better makes — are just getting a feel for the road at that point. Of course, a lot depends on your budget, too.

Overall, I would advise you to look for something that has a good reputation, a solid history, and as little mileage as possible. There are good, used cars out there that will last for years!

Romeoville sees renewed interest in office construction A concept plan was recently introduced to the Romeoville Village Board that would add a new office building in the Windham Lakes Business Park.

The proposed building, a single story, 43,000 square-foot structure with multiple entrances to allow tenants a customizable space., is the largest speculative ground up office building to be constructed within northern Will County in the last few years.

“We’re happy to see office space expansion and to bring more jobs and businesses to Romeoville.” said Mayor John Noak.

The building would occupy vacant property near the intersection of Weber Road and Windham Parkway. Developers are aiming for the project to be LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmen-

tal Design) certified. Final plans will be submitted for approval sometime this winter.
