Threatening skies stayed clear long enough for the more than 150 people gathered outside the Bolingbrook Golf Club Sept. 28 to let their voices be heard.

Supporters and critics of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump gathered to let the embattled head of the GOP know how they felt about his presence in Bolingbrook, which was due to a brief but profitable private fundraising event sponsored by Mayor Roger Claar.

Among shouts of “No Trump, No Way” and a handful of tense but, ultimately, peaceful confrontations between pro- and antiTrump demonstrators, the crowd waved signs and flags showing why they thought Trump is either the best, or worst, person for the

job.

Jo, a vocal supporter of Trump, had some strong words for critics of Hispanic descent. The Chicago resident, who declined to give her last name, parroted Trump’s claim that Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton is simply using Hispanics for their votes.

“Once they get their vote their going to get dumped, just like the African Americans have always been dumped,” Jo said. “That’s why we’re standing up and telling them the truth. The Democrats have bought all you people.”

But Eduardo, a Mexican immigrant who was brought to the U.S. as a child and attended Bolingbrook High School, said the views from the right on Mexicans and others Latinos is skewed, if not flat wrong.

Village considers apartment complex proposal includes 216-unit apartment community on 12.8 acres located on Normantown road

Banking on a projected surge in demand for apartments, the village of Romeoville is considering a new development for a three-story, high-end apartment complex off of Normantown and Weber roads.

National developers Edward Rose & Sons and S.R. Jacobson have partnered to develop concept plans for a 216-unit apartment community on 12.8 acres located on the south side of Normantown Road, just east of Brunswick Lane.

The property is currently vacant and was used in the past as a nursery known as Kotnour’s Landscape and Nursery. A portion of the property was originally annexed to the village in 1989 and is zoned R-6, attached residential.

The remaining property is unincorporated and will be annexed into the village as part of this development process.

According to the development plan, the complex includes a total of 216 apartment units in six, three-story buildings. The unit mixture includes 90 one-bedroom units, 114 two-bedroom units and 12 three-bedroom units.

A 6,000 square foot clubhouse is proposed that includes a community room, exercise room and property management offices. A pool, sun deck and pergola will

Other site amenities include a car wash area, dog park, on-site professional management and a large amount of open space around the site.

Due to the unique shape of the parcel of land, concern over the access and entrance to the area are being carefully considered, according to village trustees.

Village Manager Steve Gulden is pushing for the developer to work out an entrance on the internal road, which currently gives access to Popeyes and White Castle restaurants that are located off the road. There is also a possibility that Kingsley Drive would be opened to provide emergency access.

With the elevation of the sight and with a bigger slope on the back end, the buildings would not have the same type of visibility as the nearby townhomes.

This isn’t the first time a proposal has come to the village for this

site as village officials, according to Romeoville Mayor John Noak, have vetted the many concerns and issues with the land and the area for the proposed development.

“This is less intrusive than the previous proposal; the density is less and since there are three stories there is more open space,” said Noak. “As expressed to the developer, this is still just a concept plan and our initial look at this.

However, it is important to note there is now a market demand for Class A higher- end apartments...

Noak and village trustees were impressed with the quality of the developer, which claims to be the 12th largest multifamily-unit developer in the U.S., building nearly 60,000 units.

“They are very familiar with the market, and we like the quality of the developer and the look and feel of what they are presenting and know that what they present

is what we get, knowing with this developer we will get the answers we need,” said Noak.

Planning and zoning commissioners also asked that the developer looks into connectivity to the nearby bike path.

“This will attract a demographic we really need in the area,” said trustee Sue Micklevitz, “I do support the idea for connection to the internal-access road and it has pleased me to see we are working with such a high-quality developer. I am a person who is always concerned about density, so I appreciate the amount of open space with this project.”

As this is a concept plan, if the development is approved, the developer is not expected to close on the deal until the end of this year and would begin with one building at a time. In addition, the timeframe would allow for Romeoville’s newest apartment complex, still finishing its build out at Renwick and Weber roads, to be fully leased.

IaW begins annual water main, hydrant flushing Beginning the week of Oct. 10, Illinois American Water will be flushing water mains and hydrants in its Santa Fe service area, which includes Woodridge, Bolingbrook, Romeoville and Lemont.

The project is expected to continue throughout the month.

Illinois American Water conducts an annual flushing program of its water distribution system to help ensure continued high-quality water service.

Flushing the water system entails sending a rapid flow of water through the water mains. As part of the flushing program, fire hydrants are checked and operated to help ensure fire protection in the community.

Illinois American Water will place signs in neighborhoods where flushing is occurring so residents are aware of the system work. While the flushing program is underway, customers may experience a slight drop in water pressure or temporary water discoloration.

Customers should refrain from doing laundry during the time of day the flushing program is taking place in or near their neighborhood. If tap water is discolored, it is recommended that several cold-water faucets are allowed to run for a short time until the water runs clear. Using more than one faucet allows the water to clear faster.

“Flushing not only helps remove mineral sediment, which can accumulate in the pipes over time, but is also an essential maintenance procedure to ensure fresh water is delivered to our customers that meets state and federal drinking water standards,” said Richard Hermann, senior manager of field services and production for the Chicago Metro District.

VVSD passes $275M budget District will see approximately $232 million in operating funds

Valley View School District 365u passed its annual budget of nearly $275 million for the 2017 fiscal year.

The district will see approximately $232 million in operating funds, a $7.5 million increase over last year, dedicated in large part to construction, salary and benefit costs and the district’s 1:1 technology initiative.

The majority of the district’s $186 million income is funded through local resources, $57 million from the state and approximately $16 million in federal funds.

The 2016 property tax levy will be limited by the Property Tax Extension Limitation Law, as it has been since 1991. The limit for 2016 is 0.7 percent of the 2015 extension, or an estimated $1 million of additional revenue, half of which will be received in the 2016-17 school year.

Assistant Superintendent Gary Grizaffi said the increase is smaller than the amount received last year, when the district realized a levy increase of slightly more than $2.2 million.

Revenue from the state is prorated again this fiscal year.

According to Grizaffi, while the district will see an increase of $1.75 million in general state aid in the 2015-16 school year, the GSA is still short, with $1.18 million lost in proration.

“We again are subject to the reduction of reimbursement for regular transportation expenses, amounting to $1.57 million less than we should receive for the past year’s expenses, with proration dating back to 2010-11,” said Grizaffi. “We also haven’t received the fourth quarterly mandated categorical payments for transportation and special education, totaling over $4.2 million. The

payments have been vouchered, but not yet paid. I am concerned we may see a repeat of delayed payments from the state again this fiscal year.”

He explains that it is “ a bit of smoke and mirrors, and that though the state said it is providing full funding for general state aid, the district is still not getting what we should receive.

In essence, we were short $21 million in GSA over the past years, taking a toll on our bottom line.”

Increased expenditures are a result of a 3.2 percent increase in salary costs per labor agreements, added positions for math blocks at the middle and high schools, and the high school restructuring. In addition, the district incurred $10 million in construction costs for roofs, parking lots and mechanical projects; $3.69 million in technology hardware and staffing for the 1:1 technology initiative; and an increase of $2.4 million in its scheduled debt service payment.

The district has approximately $60 million in working cash, and would need to use $2.5 million in fund balances to meet expenses.

Grizaffi said the district is working on 95 days of cash on hand; explaining the district would not want to dip below the 90-day mark.

“It is somewhat of a concern that we are at the 95-day mark because I would rather see that number go up than down, but we are continuing

to provide services at the level we always have,” said Grizaffi. “This is just something we will monitor to make sure we do not go through the threshold.”

School Board President Steve Quigley noted the district is in better shape than neighboring districts, which he said have to borrow money in anticipation of the tax revenue, and gave a nod to village leadership for development brought to both Bolingbrook and Romeoville that helps shoulder some of the burden.

“We are fortunate,” Quigley said. “We have very progressive forward-thinking leadership in both our communities who have been seeking opportunities to bring business and corporate funding into the area. We are no longer a bedroom community, where the property taxes would be even bigger burden to our residents. We could be in much worse shape without the corporate taxation. In addition, these businesses have become good partners with the district.”

No public comments or questions were given during the open public hearing. The school board then unanimously passed the budget.

BHS to host Families in Transition Support Day Donations may be dropped off

by Nov. 1 during business hours Getting started in a new school year can be stressful for both children and parents, but those stresses are intensified for families forced from their homes by economic hardship.

Helping to ease some of the stresses on these families is the goal of the Support Day for Families in Transition to be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 5 in the Bolingbrook High School cafeteria.

The Support Day, sponsored by the Will County Regional Office of Education and Regional Superintendent of Schools Shawn Walsh, in cooperation with Du Page Township, Valley View School District 365U and United Way of Will County, is designed to meet a variety of families’ needs, acquainting them with services for which they may be eligible, such as financial counseling and health care availability.

Mentoring program helping freshmen Bolingbrook High School, partners with friendship United methodist Church for program Bolingbrook High School, in cooperation with Friendship United Methodist Church in Bolingbrook, has launched a new mentoring program for freshmen seeking additional support in developing successful coping skills and navigating the plethora of resources that will help them get to the next level after high school graduation.

The Career Choices Club is based on a successful program known as Career Choices for High School Students (CCHSS) that has been in place at the church for several years thanks to the vision of Rev. Anna Shin.

“When VVSD expressed an interest in finding volunteers to mentor and encourage students through their high school years, we reached out to our church members and the community,” said Amania Drane, coordinator of CCHSS. Several BHS freshmen and church and community volunteers

met for the first time on Mon., Sept.

26 during the initial kick-off of the new club. They will meet monthly with nine or ten volunteers from a wide variety of professional backgrounds. Each volunteer will mentor up to three students throughout their high school career.

“It’s kind of like a Big Brother-Big Sister approach but it focuses more on the career aspect,” said BHS Assistant Principal Dr. Albert Brass.

“It will be a holistic approach. It’s not just college. It’s not just career.

It’s about the whole person.”

The club, which will primarily meet in the new College and Career Center at BHS, and will tap resources provided by Jane Addams Resource Corporation, the College of DuPage, Heart Haven Outreach and several other partnering organizations. Local businesses like Mickey’s Gyros, Costco, Rosati’s Pizza and others will provide light meals for each meeting. Future plans include trips to colleges, visits to various businesses and even some community service efforts.

Officials hope to get parents involved as well.

“I was very proud of it,” Gidwitz said recalling his 400-page masterpiece. “I took it to an agent and I asked her what do you think? She said it’s not very good. I said what do you mean it’s not very good? I quit my job and it’s not very good?

She said you probably should start on a new book which is adult talk for throw it in the trash can. I was devastated.”

At that point he took a job as a substitute in a school library reading stories to children, but he never gave up on being a writer.

“Telling a story out loud is like writing. I didn’t realize I had been a writer every day of my life. I spent two or three hours a day writing. I just didn’t write it down.

You can write it down now. You can write it down later,” Gidwitz said. “The difference now is I get paid to do it. How do you know if you’re a writer? “It’s simple. Writers write. I know writers who are talented and I know writers who aren’t talented. But one thing I know is every publishing writer has a drive when they wake in the morning and they never quit writing. It’s a lot of hard work.”

BHS speech team seeking judges for the 2016-17 Season Anyone interested in becoming a judge for the Bolingbrook High Schools speech team this is invited to an informational meeting and training from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 6 in Room A140.

Te training will last approximately 90 minutes. Each new judge is expected to stay for the entire training. Refreshments will be provided.

The pay for a typical day of judging is $75 for a minimum of three to four rounds. Most tournaments are on Saturdays and typically run from 7:30 a.m. into the afternoon.

Citizens Against Abuse rally against domestic violence event scheduled for oct. 13

In an ongoing effort to stop violence, a group dedicated to empowering people is calling on the community to attend a

rally in support of one another.

Helping victims come forward is a never-ending process, and it is the mission of one local organization dedicated to raising awareness about domestic

violence and its many forms.

The group is inviting the community to come out to partake in the 18th annual Rally and March Against Abuse from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 13 at DuPage Township’s Joseph and Sarah Levy Center, 251 Canterbury Drive, Bolingbrook.

The presentation will focus on “Relationship ABC’s Healthy vs. Unhealthy” with a panel of experts, including Sandra Carlson, LCPC from Sandra Carlson and Associates; Ryan Lawrence, executive director from Heart Haven OutReach; and Erin Carlson, LCP from Family Counseling Services.

“We like to take a different approach each year and educate the public about the many forms

of abuse, and encourage everyone to be a part of the event,” said Pat Fiaccato, a member of Citizens Against Abuse. The group’s goal is to reach those victims and give them the support they need to seek help.

Citizens Against Abuse (formerly known as Take Back the Night) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in the Bolingbrook area that hopes to inspire unified action towards domestic violence’s elimination and prevention, while remembering victims, empowering survivors and providing resources to those it affects.

I’m not racist, Trump tries to make us look like violent people, and I’m just trying to say that we’re not.”

Some cooler heads were among those in the crowd, as well. They were trying to talk common sense to the other side.

Holding a sign that read “Married. White. Business Owners. The only demographic not yet targeted by Trump’s hate,” Bolingbrook resident Joe Giamanco said he was offended by the candidate’s rhetoric.

“I’m an attorney, and when I see injustice I have a real problem with it,” he said. “Everything I see that comes out of Trump has been an attack on pretty much everybody but ‘me’ so far. It’s not right

“I fear at this point that a lot of those folks, no matter what you

say to them, no matter what you tell them, no matter what comes out of Trump’s mouth, it won’t

make a difference,” Giamanco added. “They put such blinders on, they’re blind to it all.”

Others at the rally criticized the Bolingbrook mayor’s support of Trump.

Patti Droogan was born and raised in Bolingbrook, and said she and other area residents organized the group Suburban Families Against Hate as soon as they heard about the fundraiser.

“We are very disappointed in our mayor because he has insulted this entire community,” she said. “It’s very disappointing because this is supposed to be a community that encompasses everybody, and he’s inviting somebody into this town that has insulted our Muslim brothers and sisters, that has insulted our black brothers and sisters, that has insulted women… So, it speaks volumes to Mayor Claar’s character.”

But, Trump also drew minority support at the event, as some black and Hispanic demonstrators stood up for their candidate.

“We want to break the stereo-

types,” said Alexander Rodriguez, of Joliet. “The narrative says that if you’re a minority, if you’re young you should be voting for Hillary and be part of the Democratic Party, and it’s just not true.

Rodriguez said he attended the demonstration to show Trump that he’s welcome in Illinois.

“I’m young, I’m of Hispanic decent, but I proudly support the Republican party, and I proudly support Mr. Trump,” he said.

Inside the event, the air was electric, according to a handful of individuals who attended the fundraiser and joined demonstrators after its conclusion.

David Diersen of the online publication GOPUSA said Mayor Rudi Giuliani spoke during the event, but added that he was even more impressed by Trump himself.

The fundraiser pulled in a reported $1.5 million for Trump’s campaign. For those who made their way inside, tickets reportedly cost between $1,000 and $250,000 per person.

Anything Can Be viewers need to support inclusion in mainstream media By daniel smrokowski Bugle columnist This is a time to celebrate the lives of those diagnosed with Down syndrome. It is a time to celebrate the acceptance and inclusion of people with special needs. In the media, whether on film, television, radio or podcast, people with Down syndrome are rarely seen, and, if they are, they are not usually portrayed in a positive light.

These days, however, the inclusion of people with Down syndrome in the media is beginning to change for the better.

A year ago, I had the opportunity to screen the award-winning documentary film “Kelly’s Hollywood.” Brian Donovan, a filmmaker based in Los Angeles, produced this film. It presents the intimate, honest and raw story of a brother’s quest to fulfill the dream of his sister with special needs of becoming a Hollywood diva.

Brian’s quest to fulfill his sister Kelly’s dream takes an unexpected turn when it begins to threaten his

engagement with his fiancée. As Kelly begins to feel increasingly jealous of Brian’s fiancée, her health starts to fail. Brian is then forced to confront his sibling’s co-dependency issues.

Brian struggles to find balance between fulfilling Kelly’s wish of performing in Hollywood and his own dream of getting married. Viewers learn that anything is possible. Anything can be.

This film has received many glowing reviews. Actress and Saturday Night Live star Molly Shannon proclaimed, “I just loved this documentary! It is so full of heart. I laughed. I cried. It was absolutely riveting.”

This past April 30, 2016, I was given the chance to co-host the Chicagoarea premiere of “Kelly’s Hollywood.”

The intimate screening was held at the Tivoli Theater in Downers Grove.

Community High School District 99, Westmont Community Unit School District 201, SEASPAR, Special Olympics Illinois, and Special Chronicles.

Approximately 50 people were in attendance.

One attendee to this premiere was Katie Driscoll, the founder and president of Changing The Face of Beauty – a Chicago-based nonprofit organization that is literally changing the way people with special needs are seen in the media.

Katie is partnering with advertisers and companies to host photo shoots for people with special needs. At the Chicago Premiere of “Kelly’s Hollywood,” she said that at the time Brian was filming his sister Kelly, he did not have as much access to mobile devices as one would today. That is one reason this film was unique in its creation.

Brian went to great lengths to give viewers a chance to bear witness to the joy and love that his sister Kelly brought to the world.

I loved the intimate look of his film. I enjoyed the fact that viewers got to see both the joyous and challenging moments in the story. As I watched this film, I felt as if I were a “fly on the wall,” experiencing Kelly’s See special voices page 9

Remembering my brother Joe This is the most difficult story (true) that I have written. But, it is necessary for me. I write this in tribute and testament to my beloved brother Joe. I also write this in the hope and knowledge that some of my words bring back wonderful memories like mine. Joe passed into ”new life” on Aug. 7, 2016, at 3:15 a.m.

My brother Joe and I were children growing up in the “back of the yards,” the south side of Chicago. We were some of the “great depression” kids.

We played in the streets (kick the can), hide and seek, jump rope, empty cans that fit on our worn out (cardboard inside) shoes, and skated on the ice on our front street. We were “poor,” but happy.

I was the oldest. My mom gave me house chores that I shared with Joe. I would run around our only table to

catch him to do his share, which he did not want to do. At times, this was fun.

We had “nick” names back in the “depression days.” My “nickname was “Dolly,” Joe’s was “Nookie,” and later on came our youngest sister Donna “Toodles.”

It was devastating to me when my mother and dad separated. I truly needed my brother, Joe. He had to go and live with our dad, also named Joe. God and destiny saved us three children. My brother, Joe, became a devout Catholic. He was an “alter boy,” when only latin was preached. He later went on to seminary. He left because he married Rose Marie. He had a beautiful family. His example of life and faith proved he was a “messenger of God.” As siblings, we always phoned each other. We three never missed a birth-

day or a holiday with a card or phone call. He was thoughtful and kind to everyone. He was a strength that I could lean on; he was solid.

Joe was in the U.S. Air Force. He always had patriotism ideals. He had strength of integrity and values of character. He was given an honorable and dignified respectful salute at the actual time of his passing. This was also done at the gravesite.

I hope that my tribute to Joe can be reflected somehow in the reader’s own personal life, with a brother or a beloved family member. Everyone has or knows a person named Joe. Fast forward to today, individuals with Down syndrome are now being included in mainstream media. Today, people with special needs are able to “play unified,” a term that was recently coined by Special Olympics to include people with and without intellectual differences.

The ever-popular reality docu-series “Born This Way,” airing on the A&E network, is a perfect example of inclusion in mass media. This show follows the lives of seven young adults with Down syndrome.

This past month “Born This Way” rightly earned its first Emmy award. And, this past week, it wrapped up season two and got picked up for a third season. Viewers are able to see the cast is made up of young adults with the same hopes, dreams and fears, in addition to those who are not diagnosed with special needs. Four of the young women — Megan, Cristina, Elena and Rachel — featured on the show are even becoming Hollywood divas in their own right.

Another recent television

show that many in the disability community are talking about is “Speechless.” This is a new sitcom airing on the ABC network that tells the story of a family whose eldest son has cerebral palsy. “Speechless” is breaking ground by being one of the first television shows on a mainstream broadcast network featuring an actor with special needs in a lead role.

We, as viewers, need to support inclusion in the mainstream media on shows like “Born This Way” and “Speechless” or on films such as “Kelly’s

Hollywood.” Join me and let’s change the game for the inclusion of those with special needs in the mainstream media. Let’s make dreams come true.

clOser Bolingbrook defeats Lockport, takes one step closer to locking up 25th-straight playoff berth

The last time the Bolingbrook football team failed to qualify for the IHSA playoffs was the 1991-92 season when the Raiders posted a 5-4 record and fell short of the postseason.

This year, that same 5-4 mark will qualify the Raiders for the Class 8A playoffs, however, Bolingbrook has to secure five wins first.

The Raiders took the first step in reaching that mark with a 27-22 win over Lockport Friday night.

Bolingbrook has shown improvement every week, but mistakes and injuries have cost the team wins.

“We have to figure some things out and we need to get some guys back, we are still struggling,” said Raiders’ coach John Ivlow. “If we can get a few more guys healthy and get in, we

will be alright. We aren’t afraid to play anyone, we just need to get in. we have three more shots and that is what we are looking for.”

In the next two games, Bolingbrook will face a pair of SouthWest Suburban Conference teams who are also fighting for a spot in the playoffs in Lincoln-Way Central and Thornwood. A week nine match-up with recent state power Homewood-Flossmoor will end the regular season.

To get in the position it is, the Raiders used several weapons to get past Lockport.

Bolingbrook surpassed 300 yards rushing with eight running backs and needed all of them to hold on for the win over the Porters.

“When we go that up tempo, we need to have that,” Ivlow said.

Spartans battle through tough week

After playing two tough Southwest Prairie Conference games earlier in the week, Romeoville didn’t have enough left in the tank when it took on a third SPC foe of the week, Minooka, Thursday.

The Spartans fell behind and couldn’t recover in a 6-2 defeat.

“It was a tough one,” Cirrincione said. “We had two tough overtime games already this week. We have played a lot of soccer in a short

amount of time. I think our guys were just down today and we lost to a better team.”

The close games earlier in the week are a sign of the balance of the new-look conference, as there have been many close games throughout the year.

“I think besides Oswego East, everyone has been pretty close,” Cirrincione said. “On any given day anything can happen.”

Romeoville has taken advantage of the new conference en route to a solid season.

“It has been a good year,” Cirrincione said. “This is one of our

better teams in recent years. We’ve been a bit up and down. We were a bit flat today, but at least we got it out of our system now.”

David Cahue scored both goals in the loss to Minooka as he is one of many non-seniors who are major contributors on the team.

“We are young, so our seniors have stepped up,” Cirrincione said.

“We have a couple of field players and our goalie who are seniors, but we are generally very young. Our leading goal scorer (Cahue) is a junior. I think he had 12 goals this See spartans page 14

Flyer volleyball remains on hot streak The No.14 Lewis women’s volleyball team extended their winning streak to eight after beating the University of Indianapolis in three games (25-18, 25-19, 258).

Following the win, Lewis improves to 12-3 and 6-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

The Flyers picked up the win thanks to great all-around team play.

Junior Aly Schneider (Granger, Ind./Penn) and redshirt junior Maddie Seliga (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) combined for 20 kills for the match accounting for half of the team’s kills.

Lewis redshirt libero Nicole Yuede (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) led the match in digs with nine.

Abby Becker (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) had 33 assist.

On the defensive end Caroline Stefanon (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) had 4 blocks out of the Flyers 7.

As a team, Lewis hit .286 (40-

The Flyers defeated both Saint Joseph’s (25-20, 25-15, 25-13) and Kentucky State (25-8, 25-14, 25-18) at Scharf Fieldhouse on Friday (Sept. 30) night.

Against Saint Joseph’s, sophomore outside hitter Elizabeth Hyland (Plainfield, Ill./ Plainfield Central) and redshirt junior right side attacker Maddie Seliga (St. Louis, Mo./ Nerinx Hall) combined for 21 kills in the three-game sweep of the Pumas.

Hyland notched a match-high 11 kills, while Seliga collected 10 putaways. Saint Joseph’s had 23 kills as a team.

dear mark, I appreciate the fact that you’re asking questions and thinking things through. But please don’t fall into the trap of thinking of your home as a liability. That mindset is way off base, in my opinion.

Your house is definitely an asset; it’s the mortgage that’s a liability. Some folks may try to position a house as a liability simply because it costs you money. But the truth is your home will make you more money than it will cost you over time. Therefore, it is an asset.

Some of the saddest situations I’ve seen in all my years of teaching are seniors who have paid-for homes and nothing saved or invested. Money isn’t the most important thing on earth, but it is a fact of life. That’s why I encourage people to build an emergency fund of three to six months of expenses and begin saving for retirement before they tackle paying off their homes.

Then, after all that is addressed, take every dollar you can scrape together and put it toward paying off your mortgage as fast as possible. Good question, Mark!
