“Firefighters have gotten enhancements far beyond what is now the norm. No one begrudges anyone of a fair pension, but we are beginning to see the problems this causes in Illinois,” said Claar.

BY laUra kaTaUskas STAFF REPORTER Facing the threat of increasing pension benefit costs, the Bolingbrook village board passed a budget reflecting an increase in property taxes, while providing for major capital projects. Expenditures for the total budget are approximately $119.3 million, while revenue is anticipated at $112.2 million. The $7.1 million difference will come from bond funds ($5.5 million); and accumulated fund balances in Wastewater ($641,319), debt service (649,413) and other minor fund adjustments.

For the 22nd year, Bolingbrook mail carriers will not only be delivering your mail, but collecting any donations left for the National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive. Letter carriers are asking Bolingbrook residents to donate non-perishable food Saturday, May 10. “A can of food fits perfectly in your mailbox,” said Nancy Barron, who has been organizing the event since its beginning. “And a bag of food can be easily left near the mailbox. Just leave it out and we’ll do the rest.” Last year alone, more than 28,353 pounds of food was collected. Barron expects to collect the same or more this year. Donations will be given to the DuPage Township Food Pantry, which last year served more than 14,677 families and 59,128 individuals. Letter carriers will pick up any donations left in or near the mailboxes. Customers also may bring their donations directly to the Bolingbrook Post Office.
