Officials encourage residents to contact legislators BY LAURA KATAUSKAS | FOR THE BUGLE hough the village passed a balanced budget early this month, it is preparing for a reduction in state funds and urging residents to voice their concern to area legislators. Village attorney Jim Boan explained that the legislature’s recent sweep of funds included fund balances in Motor Fuel Tax, road funds and local government tax, which would have a detrimental one-time effect on the village. The village passed a balanced budget of almost $124 million and general corporate funds expenses are projected to be balanced with revenues at $68.4 million. A large portion of the budget, about 39 percent or $48.8 million, is for employee salaries and benefits and $45.6 million will be spent on contractual services. But, the biggest threat to revenue is Gov. Bruce Rauner’s proposal to reduce the local municipal share of the Local Government Distributive Fund by 50 percent. see
