WELCOME TO FROM THE CHAIRMAN... FROM THE CHAIRMAN...

THE SETT

As Chairman of Bugbrooke St Michaels Football Club, I would like to offer you a warm welcome to The Sett and I hope that you have an enjoyable visit.

Here at Bugbrooke St Michaels we are working hard to develop a club with a strong inclusive ethos, offering opportunities for players of all ages and abilities.

We are extremely proud of our youth development programme, supporting players from seven all the way up to eighteen. Many of our young players go on to have success with one of our adult teams, with some players going on to even bigger and better things!

There is a great wealth of local support for the club, everyone that helps does so on a voluntary basis and through everyone’s hard work and dedication we have been able to achieve and maintain FA Accredited status.

Whilst some clubs choose to reinvest their revenue into players and wages, here at Bugbrooke we hold a different set of values. All of our profits go into upgrading our equipment and facilities, building a solid future-proof foundation that will be here for future generations to enjoy.

Whilst this can sometimes hold us back from gaining huge success on the pitch, we feel our excellent facilities, youth development programme and ethos on community sets us apart from other clubs.

Success and progression starts from the beginnings.

Thank you for your support today, we hope that you enjoy the game, and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Bugbroooke St Michaels Football Club would like to place on record our thanks to our team of volunteers, our advertisers and sponsors.

OUR HISTORY BUGBROOKE ST MICHAELS FC

Formed in 1929, Bugbrooke St Michaels Football Club took over from Bugbrooke United who folded in 1928 after being in existence since 1910.

The club, which is named after the local St Michael’s and All Angels Church, initially took its place in the Northants Central Village League and had immense success, winning the league title from 1931 to 1937

The club closed for the Second World War before reforming in 1947 and were once again successful, winning the CVL title from 1947 to 1950, and were Northants Lower Junior Cup runners-up in 1949, a feat repeated in 1954.

We finally won the N F A Lower Junior Cup in 1956 and followed this in 1957 by winning the prestigious Daventry Charity Cup

The club had its most successful years from 1966 to 1972 when we won the Northants Central Combination Premier title and again from 1976 to 1979 with 1977 also seeing us win the N.F.A Lower Junior Cup again.

The club continued to succeed in the Northants Combination until 1987 when we took the decision to join the United Counties League.

At this time, we decided to run two teams in the U.C.L and two teams in the C.N.C. We also began our youth section and have continued this ever since. Today we run 4 adult sides, including a recently formed Ladies team as well as 15 youth teams.

The club has continued to enjoy success across all age groups over those 30 years, the most notable being N F A Junior Cup winners in 1992, N.F.A Lower Junior Cup in 1993, and U.C.L Division One winners in 2001.

The reputation for producing successful youth teams has increased over those years and 4 of our youth players (under 16) have been signed by professional league clubs

The achievements of the club on the field have always been supported by a hardworking committee whose chief officers are recorded on a roll in the clubhouse flyer They, along with the supporters of the club, have built up the excellent changing room sand clubhouse since 1980

We hope that you enjoy the facilities that they have provided over those years, and we look forward to seeing you again in the future

WHOARETHEY?

Yaxley Football Club History

The club was formed in 1900 with the forerunner of today’s club, Yaxley Rovers, being members of the first Peterborough League campaign contested during the 1902-03 season. History up until the Second World War is not well documented and the first instance of a post-war championship came about in 1950-51 when the club won the Peterborough League Division Two. Relegation was just around the corner though, and it was back in Division Three by the end of the 1950s.

The Club has always played either in or on the fringes of the highest levels of local leagues which, over the years have been sponsored and known by many names such as Eastern Counties, Jewson, and Peterborough League. The Cuckoo’s finished as runners-up three seasons in a row, the last of these being enough to see the club promoted to the Premier Division of the Peterborough League. The club’s first taste of Premier Division football came at the start of the 1975-76 season and once again they finished runners-up. The following season they went one better and won the Premier Division title.

The 1983-84 season was a superb one with the first team winning the treble, the Peterborough Premier Division, the Peterborough Senior Cup and the Hunts Senior Cup, and the Reserves winning the Peterborough Division One Championship. The Cuckoos left the Peterborough League at the end of the 1987-88 season and made the step up to the Eastern League at the start of the following season.

1993-94 saw the purchase of the new ground and the facilities to step up to the United Counties League and the 1994-95 season was at that time, probably the most successful in its history. This was the debut season of the ill-fated West Anglian League (amalgamation of the Hunts & East Northants Leagues) and the first team won promotion to the United Counties League after winning the championship.

The 2002-03 season saw plans unveiled for new facilities that were part of a five-year objective to take the club to a higher level. Plans were also made to incorporate Yaxley

Juniors and establish a new Ladies team to assist in creating a community orientated football club.

The ’03-04, ‘04-05 and ‘05-06 seasons have to date been undoubtedly been the clubs most successful ever with the First, Reserve, Youth, Ladies and Junior teams all bringing home trophies including at senior level, the prestigious Hinchingbrooke Cup and the UCL League Cup in May 2006.

Season 2008-09 saw the move to more temporary accommodation. The following three seasons proved to be some of the toughest in the club’s history as against the pundit’s opinions; Gary Clipston pulled survival from the jaws of relegation.

The 2012-13 season saw a total rebuild of the First Team and players under the management of former Cuckoos player and Reserve Team manager Brett Whaley (assisted by Chris Lenton) and the reinstatement of the clubs Reserve Team acting as a bridge between our flourishing U18s and First Team. They finished mid-table and were joint winners (along with Royston Town) of The Hinchingbrooke Cup, the reserve team were runners up in the league and the league cup and the U18s were league champions and league cup winners (comprehensively beating AFC Rushden & Diamonds). All in all, not a bad season.

2013-14 saw the dismantling of the Reserve Side due to a lack of bodies to manage the team to an acceptable level and a brand new U18s team coming up from U16s football – a very tough season ahead. The First Team finished sixth in the league table; a highly commendable result but the FA and League Cup competitions were massively disappointing although we probably created a couple of new records in the process.

2014-15 saw the Cuckoos enjoy a very good season with an excellent FA Vase run and a fourth position in the league. The 201516 saw a new era with new manager Ian Benjamin, an exprofessional with massive experience in semi-pro and non-league and a track record of promotion at Step 4 and 5.

The biggest change for the club was the new 3G pitch that the club and the community have already benefited from enormously. The club would like to place on public record its deep and sincere appreciation to all those silent partners who have made our dream for growth and sustainability a reality.

YAXLEY FC TODAY’S VISITORS

In 2016-17 Brett Whaley returned following the departure of Ian Benjamin and showed his intent to take the Cuckoos to a higher level by strengthening the squad with some impressive experience whilst retaining the vast majority of the previous season’s players. In addition to an impressive third place in the league we also won the UCL KO Cup beating Wisbech Town in a fiercely contested battle.

In 2018/19 the Cuckoos looked to sustain their rise to Step 4 retaining the complete squad from the previous year whilst bolstering in a couple of areas. The Reserve was led by Lloyd Burton. At Step 4 we entered the Southern League Midland Division and had two seasons there, although because of the covid outbreak the second season was not completed but at the time the club was just above mid-table.

2021-22 began another new chapter after the FA reshuffle saw the club moved laterally to the Northern Premier League Midlands Division, where we finished mid-table. 2022-23 was a season to forget as long-serving players moved on, Andy Furnell stepped down and other managerial appointments were unable to stop us from being relegated back to the UCL with just a single league win all season.

The 2024-25 started with a merger with Peterborough City and a new fresh approach to developing the Yaxley FC Youth Set-Up and creating a holistic club under the leadership of David Cattermoul.

Simon Roberts was at the helm of the first team for the start of the new season, but following 4 straight league defeats, Simon was replaced with Wilkins Makate, assisted by Raph Frascogna as we now look at how to push the club up the football pyramid in the coming seasons.
