when the water doesn't get to a body of water it gets absorbed into the ground but if the ground is full then it just keeps running until it finds somewhere to go. we like to call this a runoff! and as for the ones underground that plant takes it and uses it

and then the plant lets us out through the leaves. this is called transpiration for vegetation. wow! such a long word

Hello everyone. Today, Senku, Ayame and I, Shinya will be telling you about water, the water cycle and how important it is.

Slow down Senku.

We still have lots panels. Let’s tell them about what we’re doing in our anime and manga.

I’m Ayame, Shinya’s partner.

Currently, Shinya and I are trying to prove love through science. We’re conducting tests to show love by measuring heartbeat and expressions and other stuff.

Water, a valuable resource for mankind.

Wonder what we would do if it all disappeared.

SHINYA’S POV ON WATER CYCLE Water, an natural resource from Earth.

An essential for mankind as Senku said. But where does it come from?

I’ll go first and talk about water, you guys can sit back and watch.

Firstly, let’s talk about the water cycle.

The water cycle can basically start at any stage. Whether it be starting at precipitation, evaporation, or condensation, it doesn’t make a difference.

Let’s start at evaporation for this part.

Let’s start at a ocean for evaporation. So basically the water will evaporate into the air and turn into clouds.

I gotchu. So condensation! It’s basically how the gas vapor of water turns into liquid. It’s also how the clouds form.

As you can see, the water evaporates from the ocean rising into the air. Senku, please take over for me and explain condensation.

As you can see, the water is evaporating due to the heat of the sun. Why does the heat of sun help with evaporating? It helps the water molecules move faster turning it into a gas for condensation.

So Condensation is basically-

Sorry about that, so back to what I was saying.

Condensation plays an important role in the Water Cycle.

So, basically, condensation occurs due to the dew point. The dew point is determined by the air temperature and the relative humidity.

Without condensation, there would be no clouds. I’m 10 billion percent sure that without clouds, there’ll be no rain at all.

In this simple diagram, it shows how the evaporated water turns into clouds. It’s very simple yet so cool!

I’ll take it from here Senku. Now let’s talk about precipitation.

Precipitation is basically rain, snow, hail, etc. Why? Because it falls down to the earth. Pretty easy huh?

BAM!! See! The rain gave it nutrients to grow! Now lets see if it never rained because no water cycle!

Imagine this tiny tree sapling.

Wow, look at how depressing that is. It’s dead… Well, I hope this got you thinking of how important the water cycle is.

Let’s say it rained and gave the plant nutrients.

So basically, how is water important to us and our environment? Well, it helps the environment grow, like the plants and stuff. And it gives water to drink for people and animals.

For example, a river is a source of water of both humans and animals.

Hmm, yes. A source of water is important for living organisms like us and animals.

It gives us something to drink and it helps the plants grow because the water gives it nutrients.

If you didn’t know, water is made of 3 atoms, two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom.

Water also makes up most the earth and there’s only 3% of freshwater on earth.

Paragraph: Compare and contrast the 1918 Influenza Epidemic with the current COVID-19 crisis. Make sure to use all of your artifacts, and give specific details about them!! Please also include the artifact number when you are describing or using it.

The 1918 Influenza Epidemic is very similar to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is because, during both events, people were encouraged to wear masks. Two examples of that are that in artifact 1, there was a drawn picture of the world wearing a mask and artifact is a poster that is titled “WEAR A MASK AND SAVE YOUR LIFE”. Many people who were infected with the diseases have died from them, they are very spreadable and decrease the population massively. Two examples are that in artifact 1, it has phrases that say “stop the spread” and “only humans can save humanity”. Another example is that in artifact 2, it says “you wear a mask, not only to protect yourself but your children and your neighbor from influenza, pneumonia, and death”. The people in Buffalo were greatly affected by both the epidemic and pandemic. There are also some differences between the two epidemics. One difference is that one happened in 1918 and the other (COVID-19) is happening now. One example is that artifact 1 is that the time period in the 1900s where they are asking for nurses, and another example is artifact 11 where the time period is 2020 where there are three short paragraphs explaining someone’s experience during the pandemic. Another difference is that the 2 pandemics are two different sicknesses and originate from two different places. An example is that an artifact 2 says “A GAUZE MASK IS 99% PROOF AGAINST INFLUENZA” (the sickness). Another example is that in artifact 1 is says “STOP the spread of COVID-19” (the sickness). The coronavirus is also affecting more places and is affecting those places more than influenza. An example is that an artifact 1 is that there is a hand-drawn picture of the world wearing a mask.

July 7, 2020 Dear Diary, When Quarantine first started, I wasn’t absolutely happy to be out of school. At the same time, I wasn’t thinking about how Covid would change everything: our health, how we live and how everything around us would change. I was only thinking about school work and passing.

After a while, I began to wonder/ and worry about my friends, family and others’ jobs. “What was going to happen?” For most people, once going outside and returning, they may think, “Do I have the Coronavirus?” and “This will be okay.’

This pandemic is still going on. I feel that it is very sad and frustrating that we have to experience this. Lots of people have to wait in long lines just to get food, clothes (etc). This has been very serious for about seven months now and I don’t think this is ever going away. This pandemic has been here since 2019, it’s 2020! The common word of mouth is that Covid came along from bats and mad scientists. I think scientists created this virus; I think it got out by accident, and bats received this virus/ disease. After this, I think people in Asia began eating bats. Covid-19/ Coronavirus has changed everyone’s lives in various ways, both positive and negative. Positively, it has made us 2nd guess everything we do, including what we touch, how we choose to spend money, and what we choose to waste. I feel this pandemic can be looked at as an experience. People will be more cautious within future years.

We are required to wear masks everywhere we go: visiting family members, going to the store (etc). Masks are requirements in the entire NYS, as well as many other states. At this moment, more and more people every day are losing their jobs. Some can’t even put clothes on their children’s backs anymore. At the same time, New York has been beginning to open up in phases. This is because New York’s cases are dropping (as a state). Although this is great to hear, (keeping in mind that NYS used to have one of the top states with the most number of cases) people are beginning to gather in groups once again.This is putting their lives at risk, and others’.

There are a lot of negative situations at this time, but we could always do ourselves a favor by focusing on the positives. Because of Covid, we can spend more time with family, catch - up on sleep (for the most part), or even try something we’ve never tried before. I feel Covid has brought a new sense of mind to a majority of people everywhere.

Although it’s best to think positive, we should always know the truth. People are trying to act like Covid never came. It did. People try to act like everything is normal. It’s not. The virus is still here, and will be for a while longer. It is deadly. Sometimes it does feel like there isn’t a pandemic. Like everything is back to normal. But it’s not. Things will never be the same.

The Honorable Mayor Byron Brown Mayor of Buffalo 65 Niagara Square Room 201 Buffalo, NY 14202 Buffalo, New York Dear Mayor Byron Brown, I am advocating on behalf of myself and my classmates at Buffalo Prep. I have lived in Buffalo my whole life. I am a hispanic and black 13 year old who hopes for equality all around. I am writing to you about my concerns and comments on your great performance as mayor.

One of your jobs as being the mayor of Buffalo, is to update the people on current crises and make sure everyone is equally represented. I feel that you are doing a great job so far on both of those aspects, but I think you could strive a little more to make everyone equal even though it is hard.

As a mayor we expect you to make sure the citizens of Buffalo are happy, and under control.

You have done an amazing job at keeping us as a people happy and controlled. But I personally feel that you need to make sure that there aren't any more riots for the BLM movement, because it puts people at risk.

Another expectation is that you enforce local laws and you are in touch with the community/city.

As the mayor of Buffalo, this isn't an easy job, but you are doing a good job. One improvement that is needed is, making sure you are not silent on racial inequality, because silence is encouragement.

Another one of your jobs as mayor is to be a leader and make decisions that will benefit the city of Buffalo. You are doing a great job with making decisions that keep the people of Buffalo safe.

The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo Governor of New York State NYS State Capitol Building Albany, NY 12224 Dear Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, I am an eighth grade student in the Buffalo Prep Program at the State University of New York at Buffalo. I am a resident of Buffalo, New York. I have been in Prep for three years and would like to express my thoughts on recent decisions made by your State government and how several of the issues have been addressed.

The first example is that â&#x20AC;&#x2039;at least 5,800 elderly people have died of COVID-19 in New York State nursing homes or adult care facilities. Governor Cuomo, you defended your March 2020 order and said that you were just following recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to a previous Business Insider report. I believe that you are an empathetic person. However, I am quite concerned as I am sure that the families of those who have lost loved ones are about this dire situation. Could this situation have been handled better? I am saddened that so many innocent elders have lost their lives due to this dreadful disease. I hope that in the future, more effective plans will be put in place to prevent this from ever happening again.

In April 2020, you disclosed in your briefings that you feared New York, based on national models of COVID-19 spread, could run out of ventilators in six days, estimating the state needed as many as 30,000 ventilators to keep sick patients alive. An urgent search for ventilators that could help patients breathe took place. An order for 17,000 ventilators from China was not fulfilled. "Yes, the burn rate of ventilators is dropping, and six days of ventilator in the stockpile is troubling," you stated. "But we have all these extraordinary measures that when push comes to shove, the State can develop to help to keep people alive.â&#x20AC;? Your sincere and humble concern for saving lives was truly unprecedented! Thank you for never giving up and for fighting for our State as a whole.

Mr. Governor, you addressed unemployment issues on a daily basis. However, 1,259,000 claims had been pending for longer than three weeks, according to the New York State Department of Labor. Many New Yorkers were not receiving their unemployment benefits and as a result, were suffering due to the lack of resources needed to take care of their families. This is unacceptable.

The antiquated system needs to be updated in order to handle the volume of claims that need to be processed as quickly as possible. I appreciate your willingness to do whatever needed to be done in order to resolve this critical issue.

As state leaders, governors advance and pursue new and revised policies and programs using a variety of tools. Governor Cuomo, you have done a lot of work to pursue new and revised policies and programs that have been beneficial to the citizens of New York State. However, I do believe that you can still do more with the power that has been vested in you.

Mr. Cuomo, you have recommended that the state legislature should convene special sessions on a regular basis. You called on the State legislature to ensure that unresolved issues were handled effectively and efficiently. For example, â&#x20AC;&#x2039;in the wake of the historic wave of protests, sparked by the death of George Floyd, New York became one of the first states to enact an expansive package of police reform bills.

I want to thank you for keeping us well informed during this COVID-19 crisis. Because of your daily briefings, New York State residents did not have to wonder about the situation in New York State including all counties and boroughs. You encouraged us and effectively addressed the spread of excessive fear which could have been as dangerous as COVID-19. You reassured us that eventually everything would be okay.

Thank you so much Governor Cuomo for your kind consideration in addressing these matters. I sincerely appreciate the leadership role that you have taken in our State that has been noticed throughout the country. Thank you for being such a great Governor.

Dear, Mayor Brown I am 12 years old, and a student of Buffalo Prep and also a student at Southside Elementary and have been living in Buffalo for about 6 years. I am writing to give feedback on what youave h done for the community and how you are managing the city of Buffalo as being the leader for us. I am going to talk about how you handled the covid situation and my constructive feedback of it.

I think that it is great having tests going around in Buffalo for covid-19, it ensures that everyone is safe in the community by taking the test. It's also great social distancing is being forced to again ensure the safety of our community but I also think that some residents aren't following them and so I thinkyou might be able to enforce quarantine again by reinforcing it and making sure everyone understands the importance of social distancing .

Closing down public areas like parks, playgrounds, golf courses and skating areas is a good deed, but I also again feel like you arenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t enforcing them in the beginning when covid has started in Buffalo and as of now too again, to enforce not going out you could speak in the media on how staying at home is the safest situation and if going outside, enforce them to wear amask. Additional funding for homeless support services is a great deed since jobs have been permanently closed and so giving out at this time is great to the people in need.

I appreciate what youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve done for the city of Buffalo, it's great to see positiv e outcomes at times like this where we all need it.

Dear Mayor Brown, Hello mayor, I am a student of Buffalo Prep and OLBR and I have been a resident of Buffalo for 10 years.

I am writing these on behalf of myself and peers to express my thoughts on my you and the expectations I have for you.

I think an expectation for you is to give out orders during this crisis and give updates for the community. I actually think that you’re doing good with this expectation because you’ve been giving regular updates on news sources and such. You’ve also listened to what the community of Buffalo has to say so I applaud you on that, but I still think that you should focus more on the issues most of our community deals with. I also have a thing you should work on. I think you should give different minority leaders a chance to represent themselves. They should be able to represent their minority communities more and also you should hold meetings sometimes for all the minority leaders. But I think the expectation you fit the most is representing Buffalo for all of us. I really admire how you speak for Buffalo and how you also represent Buffalo itself. So I think you’re really good at that.

Parents has a rough times going to work Students are having a hard time learning Every body has to stay social distances We have to do online work and attend zoom We have to wear masks everywhere we go Some parents want to keep there kids safe So they can't go anywhere and it's borrowing And we have to stay home quarantine not going anywhere not our cousins place not anywhere So this might not be the year for people to love but we all have to stay safe

Students were asked to describe what they learned about experimental design and the scientific method, the immune, respiratory and circulatory systems, as well as how they relate to a bigger societal equity issue.

In MSP Summer Science class, we studied the steps of the scientific method, performed experiments each week and wrote lab reports for each experiment. The final experiment we did was: How Do Sugary Drinks Affect Your Teeth? Also, we discussed food deserts, which are places where there is limited access to affordable and nutritious food. This experiment is important because right here in the Buffalo community there are food deserts and this affects the people’s healthy food and drink choices.

In this experiment, 5 eggs were placed into 5 different drinks and then left overnight. The next day observations like color change, texture change and smell change about the egg were recorded. In my experiment, I used water, ginger ale, Pepsi, tea and orange juice.You can see from the data that all of the experimental eggs had color changes or other changes to their shells except for the egg in just water.

Your teeth are made of the same basic stuff (calcium) as eggshells. By doing this experiment, we really got the idea that these drinks are harmful to our teeth if we don’t have good brushing habits !!!!

Question: Why did the orange juice only make spots on the egg? Not some sort of color?

Hypothesis: If the eggs are placed into different sugary drinks then the eggs should show color, texture, and smell changes because the sugar reacts with the calcium in the egg shell.

Control/Experimental group: The control group is the egg with the cup of water. The experimental groups: Ginger Ale had 46g of sugar in it, Pepsi had 42g of sugar in it, Orange Juice had 21g of sugar in it and also tea.

Independent variable: Different sugary drinks were used in this experiment.

Dependent variable: Changes in the egg shell (color, texture and smell) were observed.

Data: (1:35)Ginger Ale was slimy and was peeling when it was touched and it smelled HORRIBLE. (1:34)The pepsi one smelled just like pepsi and it turned brown. (1:31)The tea one smelled exactly like the tea in the cup, it was speckled, and it cracked VERY easily. (1:32)The orange juice one smelled HORRIBLE, it was white not an orange-ish color, and it had specks all over it. (1:31)The water didn’t smell like anything and there were no changes on the egg, no specks or cracks.

Conclusion: In this experiment, five eggs were placed in five different drinks and observed in 24 hours for any changes in the shell. The hypothesis was correct because the prediction made was confirmed by the data and the final state the eggs were in. The drinks that had some sort of coloration to it made the eggs either have some sort of darker color/stain or a bump pattern on it. If this experiment was performed again, the experimenter could choose to use more eggs and a bigger variety of drinks in order to collect more data. This experiment shows the effect of sugary drinks on the egg shells which simulates how sugary drinks affect a person's teeth.

It’s not one of our finer points. Drinking sugary drinks and then not brushing our teeth afterwards is a health concern. In this science experiment, eggs represented your teeth and each egg was put into a cup with a drink. After several minutes and then again after 24 hours, the changes in the egg shell were observed and recorded in the data table. The hypothesis was proven right because you can see the changes in the eggs. For example, the egg in the Pepsi turned a brown color and had white speckles and the egg in grape juice was red with many white spots.

The results of this experiment tell you that sugary ​drinks are harmful to your teeth and brushing every day without any fuss is REALLY important!!!​ If this experiment was done again, the experimenter could let the eggs sit in the drinks for longer than 24 hours and observe them again to see if more changes occur.

The immune system has 7 words that you have to know in order to understand it: pathogen, white blood cells, antigen, antibody, vaccine, antibiotics. Now those words may be a little confusing.A pathogen is a bacteria or virus that can cause disease, white blood cells are cells that kill the disease in the body ( a first responder ),an antigen is a toxin which starts up the immune system response in the body it is the thing that makes you sick and it acts as a jersey for the immune system to let it know that it is a toxin, an antibody is a protein made to kill a specific antigen, a vaccine is a substance that helps protect you from a disease that contains a weakened part of the disease, and antibiotics are a medicine that destroys the disease. So basically these parts make up the entire immune system without them you wouldnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have an immune system. So hopefully everything is coming back and you understand a little bit mom? So as you know everyone has an immune system some stronger and some weaker, but you might not know that your ethnicity has an effect on it. One of the biggest reasons I think communities of color are getting affected by Covid the most is because of money. Oh no, how about we learn the things that go into breathing Okayy Well, there's two systems in the body that help with breathing. They are called the respiratory and the circulatory system.

Those are big words.

Don't let those big words fool you. All the ​respiratory system​ does is bring good air in and take the bad air out.

Isn't that what breathing is. What does the other thingy do?

“The other thingy”, which is called the ​circulatory system​ is kinda like a train that goes throughout the body taking the bad stuff with it and giving the good things.

What makes the train go.

Great question. It's called your heart. You can feel it pump right now. Just put your hand on your chest.

That's what it is. I felt it in my school when doing the pledge of Ali-ga-nce(allegiance) Yup. that bump means that your ​heart​ is squeezing blood all around you body. Almost like a circle so blood doesn’t get waste.

But how does it become a circle, since we aren't a circle.

There are 3 things in the system that help this.

Something called the ​arteries​ art taking the blood away from the heart and giving l things that will help the body.

The​ vines​ are taking the blood to the heart so that it can go back for another trip.

And last but not least, the ​capillaries​ connect the two and allow air to pass between the blood and the stuff that need it, like organs.

Whats an organ Well think of organs as pieces of legos to make a ship. You need each lego so that the whole ship can be made. An organ is like the lego to a system.

Ohhhhh. I like legos.

They are very fun.

Now lets see the actual process of breathing.

There are three things that help with it.

The lungs, alveoli, diaphragm.

Alveoli sounds like your name Mr. That's a great way to remember it.

The ​lungs​ are where the good air comes in and the bad air comes out of.

The​ Alveoli​ is the thing that takes and give off good and bad air And the ​diaphragm​ does the breathing because it squeezes to let the air go and let's go to let the air in.

Like the heart.

Exactly.

You know, my cousin in a third world country has been having breathing problems and he doesn't have any asthma. Scientists say that people with less money live in bad air communities. That's how more people with less money get sick a lot. Because the worse the air is, the worse bad things there will be that hurt the people.

Maybe that is why poor communities have high COVID-19 rates. They probably don’t have good health insurance and the bad air is directly affecting their health . *look back at them realising I was rambling out loud* Oh sorry.

What Makes a Good Experiment The experiment can be done over and over again of there is something missed or done incorrect. The experiment should be done in a large group so lots of people can say what they think . When itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s peer reviewed it has to be checked by friends and classmates. Moving Dirt There was a boy named Bob that lived in a house. Bob had a decent house, it was clean and he kept everything organized. Bob had a backyard. It was a big back yard and was covered with green grass. Bob had one problem though he had a big dirt pile in his backyard. Bob didn't like the Dirt pile; it ruined the landscape of his backyard. He wanted to dirt pile gone as soon as possible. Bob wanted to pay someone to move the dirt pile but he didn't have the money. So Bob went outside and examined the dirt pile to see how much dirt there is. This is called observe this is when you examine the thing you're trying to solve. Bob wondered what was the fastest way to move the dirt. This is called asking questions this is when you ask questions about what the most effective way to do something is. Bob wants to do an experiment to see if using a two wheelbarrow is faster than using a one wheelbarrow. So Bob did some research to see how he could get these wheelbarrows and found he could get them at walmart. This is called researching information when you read or look up something to learn more about the things you want to experiment with. Good research is something that multiple people agree with. Also good research is something that has dates, multiple sources, and doesnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have personal opinions in it and ect..So the next day Bob when to walmart to buy the wheel barrows when he got back home he spilt the dirt into three sections and called them Dirt pile #1, Dirt pile #2, Dirt pile #3. Bob thinks that if he uses a wheelbarrow with two wheels he will be able to travel faster. This is called a hypothesis; this is when you take an educated guess as to what you think will happen.

Before Bob started to put the dirt in the wheelbarrows he said that the amount of Wheelbarrows is his independent variable and his dependant variable is the amount of time it will take to move

the dirt.. Your independent variable is something you're changing which affects your dependent variable because it's dependent on your independent variable. Then Bob said that he thinks that the two wheelbarrow is more effective than the one wheelbarrow so Bob said the control group is dirt group #3 and the experimental groups are group #2 and #3. The control group is the thing you're not changing and the experimental group is the things you're changing and experimenting with. So after every two runs with both barrows Bob would time himself to see how long it took him. Bob did 3 records of this and then got his results. For the one wheel barrow he got 4min for the first 2, then 3 minute and 30 seconds, and then 2min and 20sec. For the two wheelbarrows he got 2min for the first, then 3min and 10seconds, and then 3min. Bob's conclusion is that a 2 wheelbarrow is faster than one wheelbarrow. This is the conclusion when you say your results.

Bob tells his friends of his experiment and tells them his results. This is called results when you share your information with others.

To make a good experiment it must be repeatable so other people can test your theory.

Also your experiment had to take a long period of time. Must only have one independent variable so you know what changed your experimental group. Must be reviewed by you and others. The hypophysis must be tested to see if it was accurate. Also to see if the experiment was biased/unbiased and or objective. The scientific method is Observe, Question, Research, Hypothesize, Experiment, Conclude, and Report. These are the most important things in the scientific method. For your experiment you need a Hypothesis, Independent Variable, Dependent Variable, Control Group, and Experimental Group. These are the 5 most important things you need to make a good experiment.Also to make a good experiment it needs to be repeatable. This basically means that it can be repeated multiple times and you will get the same results. Must

Assessment for Experimental Design 15 July 2020 Audience: Middle Schoolers Me: Teacher There are 7 aspects of the scientific method, they are the following: observe, question, research, hypothesize, experiment, conclude, and report. Observe is to look, to watch, or to even study something. Question is to ask yourself, “What is my problem?” Research is to gather information about your problem, what do bees like? What don’t bees like? Hypothesis is to make a prediction that will solve your problem; if I do this to the bees then the bees will do this because the bees didn’t like what I did. Experiment is to follow your hypothesis and actually do it. Conclude is to ask, “Did my hypothesis work?” Report is to record what happened.

Now the parts that make up an experiment are the hypothesis, independent variable, dependent variable, control group, and the experimental group. The hypothesis is what you're following, what will you do to solve your problem? The independent variable is what you change. For example, you could wear different colored shirts to see if black readlly does absorb more heat. The dependent variable is what you’re studying. The control group is the group you don’t do anything to. The experimental group is the group you experiment on.

The seven aspects of a good experiment is that it can be repeated, it has a large sample size, it only tests one independent variable, it is peer reviewed, it tests the hypothesis, it takes place over a long time, and its objective/unbiased. If someone does what you did exactly and gets different results from you, then you did something wrong. If someone does exactly what you did and does get the same results, then it’s a step closer to being a good experiment. When

your experiment has a large sample size, that means it tests multiple groups or even multiple times. If your experiment tests more than one independent variable, you wouldn’t know which one was working and you wouldn’t be able to solve your solution. When something is peer reviewed, that means that it’s checked by your neighbors just so that nothing is wrong. If an experiment didn’t test the hypothesis then surely it’s not going to be repeated, this would get different results. When something is placed over a long period of time, it’s been around for a while so it's easier to be familiar with it. Now, the experiment being objective/unbiased means that the experiment tested what it was supposed to test and the outcome is absolute and you can’t change it What makes effective research? The internet isn’t always so trustworthy and so you have to check which sources are good or bad. But some sites like The Washington Post, The New York Times, or The Wall Street Journal are renowned for being credible sources. To check which articles are good, the domain of the url is always a good place to start. If it ends in .gov, .org, or .edu, they’re mostly credible but some domains are top level domains and some aren’t so it’s always a good idea to search it up. Some domains can be from different countries as well. Another good indication that the source is credible is that it’s peer reviewed. The article can sometimes be reviewed by others, or you can also check the date, and maybe even the author. Good articles also reference other sources that they’ve used, sometimes it could be a lot or a little and it’s not a bad idea to check those sites.

The Florida disaster

The Florida Disaster "!"elling you this story was fun but you know what will be fun, ending it by telling the disaster of going to Florida with my family. So, first it was 2am and I was still getting my hair done mind you, we were leaving to Florida state at 6am so either way our sleeping schedule was messed up.The flight th ere ~as the most relaxing thing we did before the trip started but instead we landed in a unfamiliar place in New York City. Once we got back Inside the airport, we went inside a Delta flight club for P~ople who had a card for it. My dad fell asleep because we were waiting so long. So when our fl~ghts were finally called for Florida, we were late. My parents said If we stayed and waited for a later fl,g~t we would get $600 each. Instead of getting to Florida when It was light outside, it was 8:30pm at night. When we got there, we went to The Villa where we were staying. As I was walking out of the to get to the door, I stepped on snake skin. That was kinda weird but cool at the same time. So en, we got out of our car, threw our stuff into the room and raced to the pool because the pool closes_at 1am there. We played in the pool and left 5 minutes before It closes. In the morning, there was ~his huge white bird in front of the room. We had pizza the night before so we fed the crusts to t~e bird. Nothing really exciting happened the next few days until we went to Seaworld. When we got 1 ere, we went to the Shamu whale show. We got in our seats. I noticed these lights on the floor rear our seats at least I thought they were lights. When f stood up it squirted water into my rear. Overall getting to Florida was a disaster but being there gave me great memories and I will cherish them for a lifetime

Who Am I? My name is Zarina. I am 11 turning 12 in a couple months. I am from Cincinnati, Ohio. My mom was born in Uzbekistan. My dad was born in Baghdad. I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters. I have dark brown hair which is often mistaken for black. I have dark brown eyes to match my hair. My mom and I look alike as well.

I was born on Dec. 2 2008 at 11:00 am. I am in 5th grade going into 6th.

Yes, I know. You might be thinking, “ Wait, shouldn’t you be going into 7th?” Yes, I should. But our school has a certain date and if you were born after that date you have to wait a whole year to enroll. So, the date was Dec. 1. Wow. COUPLE HOURS! I missed the stop mark by a couple hours!

My favorite number is 12. December is the 12th month, there are 12 stars on the Uzbekistan flag and 12 is an even number.

I love animals. They are so cute, but we can’t have any pets in this house.

My dad doesn’t like them in the house. He loves animals though and they love him, but if you add the word house that is a big no.

My favorite color is blue like my birthstone. If you didn’t already find out I am a sagittarius. ( I am very proud) I love sports. I played basketball for 6 years.I also did gymnastics and dance. ( Plus Kickball) I played every single sport in a sports camp. I also like music. A lot. I play trombone, harmonica, piano, and guitar. ( I am not great at

My Name Change So, didn’t I say I was going to tell you the story of my name change? Well here you go!

It was the summer of 2016. In August or July, I am not really sure.

My uncles, aunt, and grandma came over for some tea. I am pretty sure we ate lunch together too. I was bored out of my mind sitting with them and listening to them talk. My aunt had to use the bathroom then went to the kitchen. Which wasn’t out of the ordinary.

She was walking back to the couch to sit, but I noticed something white fall from who knows where. I said “ Aunt Zakiya you dropped an envelope.” I went to pick it up and give it to her. She told me to open it and read it to her, which at that time didn’t sound weird. Maybe she was tired and couldn’t read just then. So, I read it. I was shocked.

My name… It was changed. My name was so long and hard to pronounce. Zarina Xurshedova ( Who-Shed-ova) But now it is “ Zarina Jabar”. I was so happy and overwhelmed I started crying and hugging

everyone. Oh, I was so happy because I had matching last names as my family. I didn’t have to take a good 2 minutes writing my name anymore. I was so pleased and happy. I don’t really miss my old last name.

September It was August 30 2019. I was so excited for 5th grade! It was going to be the best year of my life! 5th Grade is the last year of elementary school.

The next year I would be a middle schooler, I would get all these new privileges. This year we had the state cake,end of the year parties, and a moving up ceremony! There at the ceremony we would get dozens of awards. Like the presidential award signed to yours truly. By THE PRESIDENT!!!! My brother got the award so I was sure I was going to get it as well. I mean why wouldn't I get it? Ok ok, enough about that. So, it was the supply drop off day. I went up the stairs rushing to find my room. Ms. Deman was my 5th Grade teacher and she was known for being the best teacher for MANY reasons.

1. She gave out hundreds of tickets each week ( Our school has tickets you can buy things with tickets. Most teachers give their kids 4 single tickets a week! So that was a crazy amount of tickets.)

2. She has BUNNIES!!!! She has a lot of pets and she brings them to school. She was a first grade teacher as well and she had parrots as tall as her, and lizards, snakes around her waist, and rodents.

3. She would take us out to the playground. Every. Single. Day!!!! Most teachers don’t do that.

So once I got up to the class I noticed how small the lockers were.

They couldn’t even fit a baby in there, they were so tiny! But throughout the year I got used to it so it wasn’t that big of a problem. I was greeted by the teacher who was very nice. I put my supplies away very neatly. My desk HAS to be clean. I saw some people I didn't like and some people weren’t in my class that I wanted. But life isn’t fair am I right? As soon as I unpacked I had to put my forms in this bucket thing. But I kept putting it in the wrong one (Which was SO EMBARRASSING).

Every day we would have a schedule. Go do this and that. It was a little hard at first but hey, if you practice it every day you will get used to it.

So the whole September was the same. Except I was so nervous, I really wanted to be in the student council!

I wasn’t sure when we could sign up so I was anxious and I wanted to sign up for buffalo prep, I couldn’t wait. At the end of September and it was almost October my teacher called me and my friends up. I thought maybe we were going to discuss books or something or maybe i was in trouble so I was unsure of what to feel.

When I heard that she got an email from The Student council teacher I was so excited! We were surely chosen. I mean why else were we up at her desk? It turned out we were chosen to be in student council by our old teacher. I was so excited, and the fact that my friends were in as well was awesome! I passed my 4th Grade teacher, in the hallway. She was the best teacher ever! We started a conversation which wasn’t unusual. She asked if I knew I was in the Student council. I said yes, and of course thank you. I also happened to ask how come I was chosen. She said she chose me because I wanted to join Buffalo Prep and being in a student government I

October October was fun, I have been planning my outfit since last halloween ended.I wanted to be many things every week I would change my mind. But I was sure of what I wanted to be now. I was going to be a Uzbek bride. It would be a homemade costume, with a background of where my mom is from. It would be perfect. I also had my board meeting. I was so excited and super nervous. So, now I am in student council, what role would I take? Oh, how about president?

Yes, that is great. I also have my first meeting with the council in a week I think. Oh gosh, I was SO excited!

Well days passed by, I got used to my morning routine. Fifth grade was so much fun! I am in chorus and band. We started practicing in Sept.

In chorus we are learning a 20 page song. Oh I didn’t think I would remember it all.

Finally it was time for the student council meeting! I wore such a nice dress I literally looked like a business woman, and I liked that. The meeting was fun. We discussed what you can run for and who gets what board meeting. I got Oct. So it was for a couple days/weeks. I was so nervous and scared. But I would be the president! Right? Well turns out no one ran for secretary so I was like “ I should do it! It is fun. Why not?” So, you know I switched. I ran for secretary. I knew I was going to win. Only because I was the only runner.

I had to go to my board meeting, oh no….. I was scared and excited.

It was in 2 days…

AHHHHHHHHHHHH! Ok ok, I need to CALM DOWN. It is not like I’m doing it on my own….

Oh my GOSH! I just had to jinx it… WHERE IS MY PARTNER! I am here in the board meeting sitting next to the Middle School Council BY MYSELF and it is pouring outside. I swear… Please come on time Aaron…. Oh no, I will be up soon where is he?! Oh, NOW HE COMES. Finally, you seriously don’t know how worried I was. Wait yes you do I explained-

So, my teacher couldn’t bring the bunnies until cold weather. We would go outside everyday! Which was super fun. I loved playing tag with classes.

Also, I was the Secretary! Which we all knew that was going to happen since I was the only one running.

Oh guess what? I am here shopping at Ollies for some things for my halloween costume, you might be wondering: “ I thought you had everything” I do. BUT I CHANGED MY MIND AGAIN!!!! Wow. Well now I am going to be an ocean goddess. I think… NO I AM SURE THIS TIME. ( Don’t worry I was ) Well I got blue hairspray! Yay! Soon Halloween came before I knew it. My neighbors birthday is on halloween so she gives full sized candy bars. How cool is that?!?! Well I didn’t get to spray dye my hair because it was raining and it would wash out, which is a bummer. My boots had a hole or something, because my boots filled up with water and my socks got soaked but that didn’t stop me from trick or treating. October was so much fun. But halloween was cold as always…

November The next student council meeting came up. I got to write everyone’s script for each meeting! Elise won president and Aaron won vice president.

November was an equally long month as the others but not that many interesting things happened. Until November 17, 2019. There was the first case of “Coronavirus”. No one had any clue on what it was. So people didn’t talk much about it. Actually I never knew about it until it got serious in January….

On November 28, 2019 was Thanksgiving. Our family gathered and we ate together as well. After the kids ran around and played full of energy.

It is so nice to have family together. My dad cooked all of it, my mom made salad and helped my dad. They made Cranberries.. Yes I don’t like Cranberries, they look weird. I haven’t had one in forever.

I bugged my parents the whole week at the end of Nov. because my birthday was coming up. “ Guess what? MY BIRTHDAY IS SOON!” They would hear that every day. Haha! I find it funny but they might have found it annoying.. I gave invitations out early. Which was fine. I bugged everyone to call and let us know if you are coming. You know I guess I bugged everyone. Haha. Well it is like I am a robot and I have a birthday mode.

Once my birthday is near you can’t turn me off till it is the day after my birthday.

I was really curious about what I would get for my birthday.

December The bunnies came in December. They looked so cute! Plus they were chubby and furry, I instantly fell in love with them.

December 2 was my birthday. We went to Get Air. We as in my family and friends. It was fun and tiring. We had cupcakes instead of cake, and DELICIOUS PIZZA!!!! My baby brother had fun too, which is good.

It got so cold in Dec. and started to snow so we couldn’t go on the playground anymore. Soon…… CHRISTMAS EVE CAME!!!! Oh my gosh I was super excited!!!! We decorated our tree a couple days/ weeks (I am not sure) before Christmas. We as in me, myself, and mom. ( Did I get you?) It was so much fun. My brothers and dad occasionally came and helped. My mom helped a little too. She had to put Aaron to sleep. But the tree was awesome. I made my own presents too.

CHRISTMAS! YAY! Finally, I got so many presents. They were crafty and fun. My brother got a guitar and an IPAD! Lucky…. ( Don’t worry I got one too. It came a couple weeks late ). New Year’s coming up!

YAY NEW YEARS EVE! My uncle owns this building next to the hotel setting off the fireworks in downtown. Every year we go on the roof! It is fun. Very loud though. Our family was so happy! 2020 HERE WE COME! 2020 will be the best year ever! It is the year of the rat, my year. I am turning 12 my favorite number! Plus I will be leaving elementary!!!

January I jinxed it didn’t I… 2020 IS THE WORST YEAR EVER! I will explain. The beginning of January was fine. But all of the school was aware of Covid-19.

We would sanitize our hands. Especially me, I happened to buy 5 bottles of hand sanitizer hehe. We would joke around and not act seriously when it came to Coronavirus. I never thought that we would have to go into quarantine and stuff like that. But boy was I wrong.. The first case of Covid-19 in the US was on January 20. Otherwise Jan. was pretty normal.

My Schedule: ● Go to LMC ● Do the Morning routine ● Read ● Go to my special ( Art, Gym, Library, Music, Or computers) ● Come do some work ● Go to lunch ● Come to class and do work ● Have some free time. ● Go home and be annoyed by some 5th graders ● Home Work ● NO IPAD ON WEEKDAYS ( That was a rule.)

I mean I guess it is a good routine. But no Ipads…? NO! I don’t really like it but life isn’t fair you know?

February February was cool!

February 4 was… FROSTY FUN NIGHT!!!!!! Frosty Fun Night is this night at school with a DJ, dance offs, photo booth, facepaint, food, hula hoop contests, and limbo. It is so much fun! It is my favorite night! (Besides New Years Eve) I always get facepaint. It is only for 3-5 graders. But I went in 2 grade because my brother was in 5th grade. I don’t remember if it was 2 or 3rd grade that I got a penguin painted on my face. In 4th grade me and my friends got a Harry Potter scar and glasses painted on our faces. In 5th grade my friend Laura couldn’t come so I hung out with Elise. Elise and her brother copied my face paint idea of getting an avocado. It is fine though. I am almost the only one who keeps my facepaint overnight and goes to school with it. So I walked in the halls with an avocado on my face. Haha!

February 12 was Abraham Lincoln’s birthday (1809) but it was also my baby cousin’s birthday. Yup, They share a birthday. So we celebrated my cousin's birthday. It was fun, the balloons and food…. But the balloons were so cool! There were different types of balloons. I wore a dress with a pink scarf. We danced and ate cake. I always try to call dibs on the kids faces.. ( Maybe next year for my birthday I will do a cake with my face on it)

March Ok March 6 was my dad’s birthday. We celebrated like every year. It was so much fun! The cake was awesome. My dad has very good taste. A mini cake. Not really a party but it was fun. 2020 is good! Definitely won’t get into quarantine. It is pretty calm in Cheektowaga. “Ain’t no stoppin’ us now~”

I jinxed it. Here we are in class packing huge packets of work on March 13. We might be sent into quarantine. I AM SO EXCITED!!!! The longest time we will be in quarantine will be a week. 1 week of being homeschooled. That is soooooo cool! Every Saturday is cleaning day. So Sat. went fast. Same with Sunday. On Sunday we watched the news. No school Monday! Then there was no school for 1 week. And then there was no school till April 29th. That is too long! I want to go back to school! I will be missing out on EVERYTHING!! The state cake, the egg drop, the parties, and moving up day! No no no, THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING!!!!

April April was pretty cool. We had so much fun on April 20th. When I went to bed I heard my mom crying. I went to check on her. I thought maybe Aaron hit her. Or she was joking. But then I sat next to her and asked what happened. I couldn’t believe what she said. “ My dad died” My grandpa died…? What, How? A heart attack. That’s how. I sat there and cried. I cried myself to sleep. I remembered in Uzbekistan before I would go to bed I would come and talk to him. Even if we didn’t understand each other He didn’t speak English, and I didn’t speak Tujik. We would play cards. And to think I could never do that again? I was happy I could see him in Uzbekistan the year before for the first time. He called my mom the other night so they could talk and see each other. I was asleep. I could have seen him! But no, I didn't. I was asleep. It is funny how one second the whole family is happy and laughing and the next crying.

April 26 was my mom’s birthday. We didn’t celebrate since my grandpa just died. I made a video for her with all of our pictures. And my grandpa’s. ( I call my grandpa Bobojon which means grandpa in Tujik)

May My uncle returned from Europe! He has been gone for 3 years! He came back around April-May I am not so sure. He is so much fun and tough. So we spent time with him. My other uncle set up a playground in his backyard with mulch. He also has a trampoline, a garden , flowers, and a huge tree so we made a swing! His backyard is so nice! And there is a lot of room to run around.

I still had distance learning school. We are still having our moving up day! Except it will be a drive through. I was so excited! We kept talking about that in class.

We got so much homework everyday. I would work morning to night.

The annoying thing was that our teacher just expected us to teach ourselves. So I might as well go ahead. That is what I did. I also taught others.

The sad thing was that we didnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t even get to swimming class in gym.

June JUNE IS HERE! My moving up day is here! We went and they said my name on the microphone. I drove up and got my awards, shirts, and icecream, plus a water bottle and gift cards. ( It depends on what clubs you were in to get extra things. I was in a lot of clubs like LMC ( It is our news.

Everyday we get our information from LMC. ) Art Club, Student Council, Math Olympiad, ( It is an “Olympic Sport” Where you compete in math with schools around the world. I was the captain) and kickball. It was so sad...

July Ah, July the month I am currently in. So I can only write up to the 27 (because it is July 27).

I am currently watching a show called Liv and Maddie. On the 4th of July we saw a lot of fireworks! Next week I was going to start Buffalo Prep! ( July 6th right?) I was sooo excited I can do a front flip! ( I can! Just.. On a Trampoline…) Well it started and it was so​ ​much fun! We went to the beach a couple of times too. We also celebrated my baby brother's 2nd birthday.

That leads up to last week. I went bike riding with my uncle and brother. For 5 hours. Oh wow it was tiring. We went to a lot of places and I went to Wendy’s for the first time! It was SO good! On our way home my bike pedal unscrewed in the street ( There were no sidewalks) I fell and couldn’t feel my arm. I held on to it. My leg was bleeding so much it almost went on my new socks. I lifted my hand from my arm and saw that my hand was covered in blood. So my brother took my bike that was hardly rideable home. We rode home and cleaned up my wound. It is still scarred. On Friday I got 3 shots. My arms are swollen. Also I was asked to be in a documentary! Yay! That leads up to today. I am currently typing this.

Air Traffic Controller In the job of being an air traffic controller, geometry is key. Without geometry, planes would not be able to fly through the sky safely because the air traffic controllers coordinate the movement of aircraft using the distance of space between the aircrafts so they don't crash into each other. The median pay is $122,990 per year since 2019. To get this job you need an associates degree. To get an associates degree you need to complete 60 credit hours in college or do two years on college. You do not have to have any experience in this field though to get the job. As of 2018 the number of jobs was 24,300. This work can be very stressful because this job need concentration at all times. Our lives are on their hands when we get on any aircraft, and they protect us with the help of geometry.

Home Builders Home builders need to have geometry skills, or they wouldn't be very good at their job. In this job the title is pretty self explanatory, these people build the houses we live in. They use geometry because to build the houses they have to make sure the shapes correlate so that the house doesn't topple during a storm. To have this job you may need to have apprenticeship or an associates degree. To get an associates degree you need to do at least 2 years of college because it is an undergraduate degree. The annual salary for this job is $46,590, which is an okay amount of money. The job growth percentage between 2016 and 2026 is estimated to be only 8%. We should be very thankful to these people because they made the places that we now call home.

Art Teachers Another job that requires geometry is being an art teacher. Art teachers use lines, angles, and shapes to create their paintings. Without geometry their paintings would look like a big blob. Some requirements are you have to have a NASAD accreditation, a bachelors and masters degree. To get a bachelor's degree it takes 4 years of college. To get a masters degree you need to complete 1-3 years on top of the 4 years it takes to gt your bachelorâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s degree. The estimated projected job growth from 2016-2026 is 7% in fine artists, 8% in multimedia artists, 4% in craft artists, and 5% art directors. The median pay for art directors is $92,780 per year. Art is supposed to be a non-core class but in a sense we are still learning about math.

Physician Physician require the knowledge of geometry, you may not think so, but it's true. If they didn't know geometry, you could have an issue with the amount of medicine you're taking. Physicianâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s tell the you how much of one or more medicines you need to take, and they compare the ratios so you don't OD on medicine.

In order to have this career, you need a masters degree. To get a masters degree, you need to do 2-3 years on top of 4 years of college to get your bachelors degree. Some skills that you should/need to have are emotional stability, interpersonal communication, and compassion. The median salary as of 2017 was $104,860 per year. The estimated growth of this job between 2016 and 2026 is 37%. I appreciate physicians because they help a lot with the amount of medicine you take, but I want to be something bigger than a physician.
