They aren’t there yet, and there is plenty of room for improvement, but Chinander has also watched as the defense has made great strides since the beginning of the season. Chinander sees changes in Husker defense comes from the main page...... Against Ohio State last Saturday, the Buckeyes took the ball over after the Huskers botched an onside kick attempt on the Nebraska 35. Chinander liked the way the defense responded. “I get them on the sidelines before a drive the beginning of the year and it’s crickets,” Chinander said. “It’s me talking to myself. Now we go out there and that first drive (against Ohio State), half the group is like, ‘Let’s hold them to three’ and the other half is like, ‘They ain’t getting any points.’ I’m like, ‘You guys got it. Let’s go.’” Ohio State had three turnovers against the Huskers. Sophomore JoJo Domann, who moved to outside linebacker two weeks ago, forced one of them when he sacked Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins to force a fumble that was recovered by Carlos Davis. Chinander said Domann fits right in to what the Huskers need against teams that run a spread offense. “It’s great we have another guy we can put on the field against some of these spread teams in the Big Ten,” Chinander said. “He’s physical enough out there, he’s good in space. It’s been really good to have him come back and help the team.” Domann may not fit in quite as well against
a running team like the Huskers will face Saturday against Illinois. The Illini are a runfirst type of team that is second in the Big Ten and 11th nationally with 249 yards per game. Reggie Corbin leads the way with 952 yards on 105 carries (9.1 yards per carry). Quarterback A.J. Bush, a former Husker player, has 472 yards on 85 carries (5.6 yards per carry) and running back Mike Epstein has 60 carries for 411 yards (6.9 ypc). “They have some speed on offense. No. 2 (Corbin) is obviously a very dynamic back (with) a lot of cutback yardage,” Chinander said. “He had some big plays against Wisconsin, a big play last week. You have to get some hats on the ball. “Their other running back has been almost as good as him, then Bush can run it himself. So a lot of triple option elements involved with that offense and I think they’re doing a good job with their running game.” The Huskers will need to have their run defense dialed in against the Illini after giving up 229 yards to Ohio State. That total included a 42-yard TD run by J.K. Dobbins, who took advantage of a bad run fit by a Husker player. “We can’t make some of those mistakes we made on some of those big runs,” Chinander said. “It’s good and bad for me. We should have won the football game. We needed to win the football game.
We had the opportunity to win the game on defense and leave the offense sitting on the bench. “I love our offense. I want our offense to score a hundred points, but there are some games I want the defense to go out there and win it.” No doubt Husker offensive coordinator Troy Walters loves his offense too. The Huskers are now third in the Big Ten and 10th nationally in total offense with 468 yards per game. Nebraska has had over 450 yards in each of the last six games. “I tell all our guys, you practice how you play,” Walters said. “We take practice seriously, I grade every practice and post those grades in our meeting room for guys to see.” Walters said senior Bryan Reimers, junior Mike Williams and redshirt freshman Kade Warner have all shown some good things at wide receiver. “We had Bryan Reimers make a play last game. Walters said. “Mike Williams made plays, Kade Warner, we moved him around. We need to find that No. 3 guy, but I think collectively between Mike, Bryan and Kade, when their numbers have been called, they’ve been stepping up and making plays.” Nota Note published in: The Independent / by Bob Haman

La agencia The Associated Press (AP) informó que la ayuda humanitaria aumentó el martes para los cerca de 4.500 migrantes congregados en el estadio Jesús Martínez tras una larga caminata por tres países en tres semanas. Las autoridades de la capital mexicana esperan hasta 5.500 migrantes en el complejo deportivo. 41 Latinos in Congress, 2 races still undecided
T
he number of Latinos serving in Congress will rise to at least 41 in the new year, and that figure most likely will increase when two undecided races are called. Thirty-three out of 44 Latino Democratic candidates won election in Tuesday’s contests, while six out of 15 Latino Republican candidates claimed victory. Francisco Pedraza, a political scientist at University of California, Riverside, thinks a small increase in the number of Latinos in Congress is very important because it happened despite redistricting that followed Republican victories in the 2010 election. “In 2014 and in 2016 elections it was not that obvious,” Pedraza told The Associated Press. “Today we see the importance of all the changes brought after the 2010 election.” The 57 million Latinos who live in the United States are the nation’s largest ethnic or racial minority and constitute 18 percent of the total population. However, their political impact is substantially diluted due to their low electoral turnout. NALEO Educational Fund, a prominent nonpartisan Latino organization, said that only 6.8 million Latinos voted in the 2014 mid-term election. Latino winners in both parties include new faces who represent a number of firsts. On the Democratic side, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 29-year-old Puerto Rican New Yorker and former Bernie Sanders organizer, became the youngest woman elected to Congress after her primary victory over one of the most powerful House Democrats in New York.
Veronica Escobar and Sylvia Garcia will be the first Latinas to represent Texas in the House. And Debbie MucarselPowell will be the first Ecuadorean to have a seat in the House of Representatives after defeating two-term Republican Rep. Carlos Curbelo in a Florida district where 70 percent of residents are Hispanic and nearly half are foreign-born. Mucarsel-Powell was among eight Latino candidates enrolled in Red to Blue, a highly competitive program of the Democratic Party designed to train and support candidates to flip Republican-held districts. Other winners from that program were environmental lawyer Mike Levin in California, Xochitl Torres Small in New Mexico and Antonio Delgado in New York. A vote count that stretched into Wednesday evening gave the victory to Torres Small —a water-rights attorney who graduated summa cum laude from Georgetown University— over state Rep. Yvette Herrell, who embraced President Donald Trump’s policies on immigration. Torres Small will be the first Latina to represent New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District. Delgado is a lawyer from Harvard University and Rhodes Scholar who beat Republican Rep. John Faso from New York’s Hudson Valley. Republicans seized on his brief hip-hop career to portray Delgado, who is black, as unfit for office. Delgado’s supporters called it race-baiting. One House contest in the Red to Blue program remained undecided Wednesday: Gil Cisneros, a former naval officer and 2010 Mega Millions
lottery winner, running in California. All 25 Latino Democratic incumbents were re-elected, including New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez, who won a third Senate term despite a federal bribery indictment that prosecutors dropped this year after a mistrial. Reps. Luis Gutierrez of Illinois and Ruben Kihuen of Nevada did not seek re-election. Among Republicans, the number of Latino lawmakers fell to six from the current eight, while the re-election of Rep. Jaime Herrera-Beutler remained undecided in Washington state. Except Curbelo, the other five incumbents were re-elected, including Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who staved off a tough challenge from Democrat Rep. Beto O’Rourke. The Latino Republican delegation in the House will lose Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of Florida and Raul Labrador, a fourth-term Puerto Rican congressman who lost Idaho’s gubernatorial primary to Lt. Gov. Brad Little. Ros-Lehtinen, the first Latina and the first CubanAmerican elected to Congress and the first Republican woman elected from Florida, is retiring after 30 years. Former Ohio State University football star and businessman Anthony Gonzalez was the only winner among the three Latino candidates for the House that the GOP supported through its Young Guns program, which develops and supports viable candidates for competitive races. Did you know that occupational therapy can help in modifying your home to make it safer and more secure to age in place? Occupational therapy practitioners can do home evaluations and determine any changes or modifications needed for you to independently stay in your home. Occupational therapy practitioners can work in a wide variety of areas. They are also certified to treat patients with other factors in mind such as your spirituality, environment, work, self, and social aspects, but when evaluating your home environment occupational therapy practitioners can ask detailed questions and analyze your daily activities to determine if there are modifications that can make daily tasks easier. The following are some suggestions an occupational therapy practitioner may recommend: • Kitchen: To avoid burns and increase safety, an electric stove with front knobs. Have an accessible counter space free from clutter.

Install lighting under cabinets and sinks to assist with visual deficits and help you get around during the night. Matte countertops help prevent glare. A revolving stand in cabinets will help with hard to reach dishware. An accessible microwave within reach will help you avoid any possible falls. • Living Room: Reduce the risk of falls by removing all rugs and loose carpeting. Clear clutter from walkways. Allow lighting from windows by using accessible shades. Install LED light bulbs to brighten the room. Tie up longer power cords and remove them from walkways. • Bathroom: A handheld shower head helps during showers when mobility is limited. Non-slip flooring and the removal of all rugs and carpets help prevent falls. Make sure doorways are at least 32 inches wide to accommodate for wheelchair accessibility. Allow for bright lighting. Install dim lighting to assist with nighttime bathroom trips. Install grab bars within the recommended heights, you can do this with the recommendation of an occupational therapy practitioner. • Outdoors: If your home is structured with
outdoor steps, securely install side rails on both sides, it may help you in the future to install a ramp, with the same requirements, leading up to your home to prevent falls as well. Clear the area around the steps from any clutter. Install lighting along the steps to help you during night hours or a motion sensored light can help you as well. • O t h e r re com me nd at ion s: People with low vision problems may benefit from adding contrast tape to steps/stairs. Some people find it easier on their bodies to install a raised toilet seat in their bathrooms. Keep daily household necessities within reach rather than in higher, hard to reach places. Installing your washer and dryer on the main floor level is safer. Using a rolling cart to help with daily tasks. Recom mendations such as these can you help stay in your home as you age. Scottsbluff woman is sounding the alarm after her family found a nail in a piece of candy after trickor-treating Wednesday. Tonja McNeal told the Scottsbluff Star-Herald that the family trick-or-treats in the same area of Scottsbluff — a six-block area around Western Nebraska Community College — every year. McNeal and her husband always check candy, laying it out on the kitchen table. “We had cleared them to have a piece of candy when my oldest went to bite into a piece of Snickers candy, and he found a nail,” McNeal said. The woman said the nail
was sticking out the top, and fortunately, the child had not bitten into the candy.
McNeal said she contacted police immediately, and on Thursday, she shared a Facebook post advising parents to check their children’s candy. “I just put it out there because I want people to be aware to check their kids’ candy,” she said. Scottsbluff Police Capt. Tony Straub said the incident is under investigation, but details weren’t available on Thursday. He advised parents to “always check your children’s candy. Make sure that anything that looks abnormal is not consumed.” If the nail
was placed into the candy intentionally, McNeal said, the words she would have for a person who did such an act “are not very good things and not something you can put into the paper. ... No kid should be hurt like that.” Though McNeal said she had seen rumors of other incidents in the area, Straub advised that McNeal’s report was the only report of suspicious candy as of Thursday. SOPA DE FRIJOLES CON agua media hora antes COSTILLA DE CERDO de su cocción, se llevan a (Estilo Catracho/ Honduras) hervir, cuando estos estan ya comienzan a hervir, se Ingredientes: les agrega el ajo, la cebolla el chile dulce y el cilantro, 1 lb Frijoles (limpios y en (culantro de pata si se tiene) remojo) luego se deja hervir por una 1 . 1/2 de Costilla de Cerdo hora (depende de el frijol (limpia) que se utilize) 3 Guineos o Bananos verdes (pelados y cortados en 3) La costilla de Cerdo: Aparte 1 lb yuca (pelada y cortada se pone la costilla en una en pedazos de 2 “ pulgadas) sartén caliente y se saltea y 1/2 Cebolla blanca (en tiras) sofríe a fuego medio para 1/2 Chile dulce o morrón que esta se selle y quede (en tiras) dorada.Se deja termino 5 Dientes ajo (picado) medio apara que esta se 1 Ramo cilantro (picado) termine de cocinar con la Sal • Pimienta y • Comino sopa.
