Como muchas familias ellos emigraron a este país con mucho esfuerzo y trabajo, con la idea de ofrecerles una vida mejor a sus hijos. Hoy en día algo que los motiva a seguir adelante es ver como sus hijos trabajan duro junto con ellos en el restaurante y lo más importante es que esto mantiene a toda su familia unida. La Sra. María dice que uno de sus sueños es
lograr ser los dueños de un local donde ellos puedan tener su restaurante porque ahorita ellos pagan renta, esa es una de sus metas y también si se da la oportunidad de seguir creciendo pues vamos a echarle todas las ganas porque eso motiva a mis hijos. Este restaurante es la base en la que apoyamos nuestra economía, ahorita mi esposo está un poco enfermo, también tengo una hija que básicamente depende de nosotros, es cuando les digo que con más razón tenemos que salir adelante, nos comentó la Sra. María. También nos comentó que cuando su esposo los trajo para EU, llegaron a California
y ahí ella trabajo en restaurantes y agarro mucha experiencia. Su esposo el Sr. Armando siempre trabajo de carnicero y también en restaurante es por eso que se animaron a poner este negocio porque ya contaban con suficiente experiencia y como dice su esposo cada día nos levantamos a echarle ganas para salir adelante esa es nuestra meta, sabemos que no nos vamos a hacer ricos, pero tendremos lo indispensable. Un consejo que ellos quieren compartir con las familias que tengan esa idea de poner un negocio, los anima a que luchen por sus sueños, que trabajando y luchando duro si se puede.
Todos los que emigramos a este país dejamos familia, sobre todo dejamos a nuestros padres, y muchos nos sacrificamos al no poder ir a visitarlos por mantener nuestro trabajo, otros por miedo de no poder regresar y perder todo por lo que lucharon, en ocasiones ni siquiera pueden ir al entierro

The story behind veterans’ day It comes from the h o m e p a g e . . . . . .T h e original concept for the celebration was for a day observed with parades and public meetings and a brief suspension of business beginning at 11:00 a.m. The United States Congress officially recognized the end of World War I when it passed a concurrent resolution on June 4, 1926, with these words: Whereas the 11th of November 1918, marked the cessation of the most destructive, sanguinary, and far reaching war in human annals and the resumption by the people of the United States of peaceful relations with other nations, which we hope may never again be severed, and Whereas it is fitting that the recurring anniversary of
this date should be commemorated with thanksgiving and prayer and exercises designed to perpetuate peace through good will and mutual understanding between nations; and Whereas the legislatures of twenty-seven of our States have already declared November 11 to be a legal holiday: Therefore be it Resolved by the Senate (the House of Representatives concurring), that the President of the United States is requested to issue a proclamation calling upon the officials to display the flag of the United States on all Government buildings on November 11 and inviting the people of the United States to observe the day in schools and churches, or other suitable places, with appropriate ceremonies
of friendly relations with all other peoples. An Act (52 Stat. 351; 5 U. S. Code, Sec. 87a) approved May 13, 1938, made the 11th of November in each year a legal holiday—a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be thereafter celebrated and known as “Armistice Day.” Armistice Day was primarily a day set aside to honor veterans of World War I, but in 1954, after World War II had required the greatest mobilization of soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen in the Nation’s history; after American forces had fought aggression in Korea, the 83rd Congress, at the urging of the veterans service organizations, amended the Act of 1938 by striking out the word “Armistice” and inserting in its place the word “Veterans.”
With the approval of this legislation (Public Law 380) on June 1, 1954, November 11th became a day to honor American veterans of all wars. In 1958, the White House advised VA’s General Counsel that the 1954 designation of the VA Administrator as Chairman of the Veterans Day National Committee applied to all subsequent VA Administrators. Since March 1989 when VA was elevated to a cabinet level department, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs has served as the committee’s chairman. The Uniform Holiday Bill (Public Law 90-363 (82 Stat. 250)) was signed on June 28, 1968, and was intended to ensure three-day weekends for Federal employees by celebrating four national holidays on Mondays: Washington’s Birthday,
Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Columbus Day. It was thought that these extended weekends would encourage travel, recreational and cultural activities and stimulate greater industrial and commercial production. Many states did not agree with this decision and continued to celebrate the holidays on their original dates. The first Veterans Day under the new law was observed with much confusion on October 25, 1971. It was quite apparent that the commemoration of this day was a matter of historic and patriotic significance to a great number of our citizens, and so on September 20th, 1975, President Gerald R. Ford signed Public Law 94-97 (89 Stat. 479), which returned the annual
observance of Veterans Day to its original date of November 11, beginning in 1978. This action supported the desires of the overwhelming majority of state legislatures, all major veterans service organizations and the American people. Veterans Day continues to be observed on November 11, regardless of what day of the week on which it falls. The restoration of the observance of Veterans Day to November 11 not only preserves the historical significance of the date, but helps focus attention on the important purpose of Veterans Day: A celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

Muchas personas que cuentan con seguro médico para su familia en su lugar de trabajo y este les resulta muy costoso, quisiera
informarles dice Ingrid que existe una opción, de inscribir a su familia através del Mercado de Seguros, y es posible que le saliera mas económico de esta manera. Secretario interino Elaine Duke Anuncio sobre el Estatus de Protección Temporal para Nicaragua y Honduras

ASHINGTONla Secretaria Interina de Seguridad Nacional, Elaine Duke, anunció su decisión de terminar la designación de Estatus de Protección Temporal (TPS) para Nicaragua con una fecha de vigencia demorada de 12 meses para permitir una transición ordenada antes de que la designación finalice el 5 de enero de 2019. También determinó que es necesaria información adicional con respecto a la designación de TPS para Honduras, y por lo tanto no ha tomado ninguna determinación con respecto a Honduras en este momento. Como resultado de la imposibilidad de tomar una determinación, la designación de TPS para Honduras se extenderá automáticamente por seis meses a partir de la fecha de vencimiento actual del 5 de enero de 2018 a la nueva fecha de vencimiento el 5 de julio de 2018. La decisión de terminar el TPS para Nicaragua se tomó después de una revisión de las condiciones en las que se basó la designación original de 1999 del país y de si esas condiciones sustanciales pero temporales impidieron que Nicaragua manejara adecuadamente el retorno de sus nacionales, como exige la ley. WA S H I N G T O N — Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Elaine Duke announced her decision to terminate the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for Nicaragua with a delayed effective date of 12 months to allow for an orderly transition before the designation terminates on January 5, 2019. She also determined that additional information is necessary regarding the TPS designation for Honduras, and therefore has made no determination regarding Honduras at this time. As a result of the inability to make a determination, the TPS designation for Honduras will be automatically extended for six months from the current January 5, 2018 date of expiration to the new expiration date of July 5, 2018.

heu matoid nodules are firm lumps that develop under the skin. They are a symptom that is unique to rheumatoid arthritis and usually occur near joints affected by the condition. AVISO IMPORTANTE DEPARTAMENTO DE TRANSPORTE DE NEBRASKA AVISO DE PROYECTO DE MEJORA DE CARRETERA DEPARTAMENTO DE TRANSPORTE DE NEBRASKA AVISO DE PROYECTO DE MEJORA DE CARRETERA STP-L10C(103) Gibbon Link; CN 42710 El Departamento de Transporte de Nebraska (NDOT) está planificando un proyecto de repavimentación en el Enlace de Nebraska 10C (L-10C) cuya distancia es de 2.73 millas. La reunión de información pública fue realizada en octubre del 2016 y como consecuencia posterior cambios fueron requeridos para acomodar el tráfico durante la construcción. Identificado como Gibbon Link, el proyecto propuesto, incluirá la repavimentación de 2.73 millas de la L-10C, empezando aproximadamente a 300 pies al sur de las rampas de intercambio Interestatal 80 (I-80) en dirección sur en el marcador de milla (MM) 0.00, y extendiéndose al norte hasta el MM 2.80, a lado sur inmediato de la 10th Street, donde el pavimento cambia de asfalto a concreto. El proyecto también incluiría el ensanchado del arcén, extensión y sustitución de alcantarillas además de la reparación del puente sobre la I-80. La construcción empezaría y/o terminaría aproximadamente a 200 pies por delante o más allá de los límites reales del proyecto para dar lugar a las transiciones respectivas del pavimento. El propósito de este proyecto es preservar los activos de transporte, mejorar la confiabilidad funcional del sistema de transporte y perpetuar la movilidad del público viajero. La necesidad del proyecto se basa en la condición de la carretera existente, estructura del puente
y alcantarillas. La construcción prevista consistiría en el fresado y repavimentación de la carretera con asfalto. Se ensancharan los arcenes y construirían canaletas de drenaje nuevas. Intersecciones y accesos privados serían reconstruidos. El Puente de L-10C sobre la I-80, Estructura S080 28566, sería reparado. Las alcantarillas se repararán y extenderán y/o sustituirían como sea necesario. El proyecto requeriría la adquisición de derechos de propiedad adicionales para su construcción a lo largo del proyecto, incluyendo derecho de vía nuevo y servidumbres temporales. Se anticipan impactos en el área de la “Windmill State Recreation Area” debido a la propuesta de adquisición de nuevo derecho de vía pertenecientes al parque. El derecho de vía propuesta sería utilizado para la construcción de canaletas de drenaje nuevos de la carretera y acomodar los arcenes ensanchados sin obstaculizar con las instalaciones del parque. Los impactos en los humedales fueron anticipados y serían mitigados en un banco de humedales aprobados por un Cuerpo de Ingenieros del Ejército de EE.UU. La construcción está tentativamente programada para empezar en la primavera del 2019 con su finalización en el invierno del 2019. El trabajo de repavimentación en la L-10C se construiría bajo el tráfico con cierres de carriles controlados con equipo de control de tráfico temporal aprobados. Debido a las reparaciones del puente, se requeriría un desvío designado durante aproximadamente 80 días hábiles en el Puente L-10C sobre la I-80 para la construcción del puente y utilizaría la I-80,
además de los intercambios de la Autopista 10 de Nebraska (salida 279) y L-10D (salida 291), aproximadamente a seis millas al oeste y al este. Las rampas de intercambio L-10C permanecerían abiertas al tráfico. El acceso a las propiedades adyacentes se mantendría durante la construcción, pero puede estar limitado en ocasiones debido a los requisitos de las diferentes fases de construcción. _________________________ _______ Se invita al público a hacer sugerencias o expresar inquietudes con respecto a este proyecto propuesto. La receta de esta semana Arroz Imperial a lo cubano El arroz imperial es un plato que los cubanos hemos hecho nuestros aunque se desconoce su verdadero origen. La receta del Arroz Imperial es muy fácil, cuenta con cuatro ingredientes principales el arroz, el pollo, el queso y la mayonesa. Aunque este último ingrediente algunas personas lo eliminan mientras que otros le agregan más cantidad Ingredientes: 3 tasas de arroz 2. ½ pollo o la pechuga 3. ½ Kg. (1 libra) de jamón de cualquier tipo 4. ½ Kg. de camarones 5. 2 tasas de vino blanco (también puede ser cerveza) 6. 1 pastilla de caldo de pollo concentrado 7. 2 cucharadas de puré de tomate 8. Aceite 9. Cebollas 10. Ajos 11. Laurel 12. Comino 13. Pimentón dulce
14. Sal 15. Pimienta blanca 16. Mayonesa 17. Queso 18. Azafrán o bijol Modo de preparación: Al pollo, se le quita la piel, y se pone a hervir en una olla de presión con 1 cebolla, 2 dientes de ajo, laurel, comino, una cucharada de puré de tomate, sal, y la pastilla de caldo de pollo. Como el tiempo varía según la olla que se use, debe hervirse hasta que quede muy blando. Simultáneamente, pique el jamón en trocitos muy pequeños, sofríalo en la sartén con un diente de ajo bien macerado, y déjelo en un recipiente, escurriéndole el aceite que usara. Los camarones, hiérvalos y al sacarlos sin que se desbaraten, mézclelos con cebolla muy picada, pimienta blanca y saltéelos en la sartén, dejándolo después en un recipiente. Cuando el pollo esté blando, sáquelo del caldo y
desmenúcelo, y en la sartén con un poquito de aceite, cocínelo con cebolla bien picada, un diente de ajo, pimentón, y una cucharada de puré de tomate. Prepare en una olla, un poquito de aceite, cebolla picadita, pimientos morrones en tiras o picados, cominos (1/2 cucharadita), colorante de arroces (azafrán o bijol) a gusto y en ese sofrito eche el arroz. Cocine el arroz hasta que empareje el color a fuego mediano, y agréguele 2 tasas de vino o de cerveza, y 1 1/2 del caldo del pollo que quedó al sacarlo. Añada sal a gusto y cocínelo de forma habitual, Si lo cocina en olla de presión: se pone la tapa y cuando tome la presión, se pone a fuego lento 20 minutos. En olla normal se pone a fuego alto y cuando rompa a hervir se tapa y se deja a fuego lento 20 minutos.

New Survey Shows Increase in Resident Satisfaction he City’s most recent Taking Charge survey shows that residents’ satisfaction with City services continues to rise. Some of the highest rated categories were overall quality of life, fire and ambulance service and police service. Pytlik Zillig said that since 2012, more City services showed increases in satisfaction than decreases. She said significant increases were seen in overall quality of life; safety and security; employment opportunities, job creation and economic development; snow plowing; appearance and cleanliness; r e c r e at ion a l opportunities; ease of
bike travel; and health department services. Areas showing a downward trend over the past five years are the availability of affordable housing and City recycling and sustainability. Based on the results of the survey, the City will conduct an online survey this winter to get more information on several issues. Those may include street maintenance, parks maintenance and recycling. For the first time, results were also evaluated by City Council districts. Pytlik Zillig said results from the districts were similar to overall ratings. She said the results did show a tendency for districts 1 (northeast) and district 4 (northwest) to give lower satisfaction ratings than district 2 (southeast) and district 3 (southwest).

his afternoon for the first time since March – and for the only time before the ‘Ladbrokes Winter Carnival’ on 1 and 2 December, a meeting that pretty much everyone will refer to as ‘the one that used to be the Hennessy’ for the next 10 years at least. The Challow Hurdle and Betfair Hurdle are among the other highlights to look forward to over the coming months, but there is plenty to whet the appetite on Thursday afternoon’s card too, starting with the hurdles debut of Claimantakinforgan, third home in last season’s Champion Bumper at Cheltenham, in the opening race. He would be difficult to beat at anything close to his best form but has not shown it for some time now and faces two very useful recruits from hurdles in Topofthegame (2.45) and Strong Pursuit. The former’s run at Ascot in February ties in well with some of the best novice form last season and he could well do even better over fences. Robinshill (1.50) fell at the final fence with the race at his mercy at Ludlow two weeks ago and should gain some compensation this afternoon, while the lightly raced Middle Kingdom (7.15) is the best bet on the Flat card at Chelmsford City this evening. The winner of both his starts to date, the first last November and the latest back in April, John Gosden’s War Front colt is clearly not an easy horse to get to the track but he has the potential to be better than a handicapper next year and should maintain his unbeaten record today.

Omaha police are beefing up staffing amid recent spike in violent crime including fatal freeway shooting
O
maha police “are keenly aware” of a recent spike in violent crime, Chief Todd Schmaderer said Monday evening. And the department has beefed up staffing to focus on the problem. Police say they believe that some of the violence is tied to one gang, Schmaderer said, adding that one gang’s violence can affect other gangs. The department is focused on that gang, with officers working overtime, and homicide and gang units working closely together. The police chief said he could speak only vaguely about the situation, to avoid compromising police work. Over the weekend, one Omaha man was killed and three others were shot in three separate shootings. Two people were stabbed, one in a home invasion and the other in a neighborhood fight. Robberies at two gas stations turned dicey when, in one case, a customer was robbed and another assaulted, and in the other instance, robbers fired at vehicles in the area. And a little more than a week ago, burglars stole 30 weapons from a pawnshop (20 have been recovered). Police have not said which, if any, of these acts were tied to gang violence. Still, the Omaha Police Department said in a statement Monday that, compared with previous years, violent crime is down in Omaha. The statement said the department understands the reasons behind the current outbreak, but did not elaborate. Road rage did not appear to be a factor in the shooting death of an Omaha man Sunday
on the North Freeway, police said in the statement. Xavier Bass, 21, was slain and Marcus Eiland, 24, was wounded in the freeway shooting, reported at 12:45 p.m. near the Hamilton Street overpass. Police are investigating and had not announced any arrests as of Monday night. A First Responders Prayer Walk was held overlooking the site Monday evening. The prayer walk took place just after the sun set, on a hill above the spot on the North Freeway where Bass and Eiland’s vehicle came to a stop. People gathered in an empty lot on the southwest corner of 28th and Charles Streets. “These kinds of tragedies, Lord God, they just cut to the heart,” prayed the Rev. Bruce Williams, who led the service. “We all know this never should have happened to Xavier.” About 45 people attended, arms on each others’ shoulders, heads bowed. Two women held each other as one of them sobbed. During the service, Williams asked people to say things about Bass. Comments came back: “Real.” “Good dude.” “Hard worker.” “Beautiful dimples,” a woman said, and then many laughed. “And he was an excellent cook.” One attendee, Omaha Public Schools board member Yolanda Williams, 43, said Bass set a positive example to other young men, keeping them on a positive path, including one of her own children. “He was an amazing young man who touched a lot of young lives in a positive way,” Williams
said. Bass’ mother, Shalonda Bass, 39, had said earlier in the day that she wasn’t sure she was up for the public gathering. But she arrived as it ended, and as many of her son’s loved ones lingered, she embraced them in long hugs and spoke briefly with Willie Barney of Omaha360. In a phone interview earlier, she said she hoped her son’s death would cause people to think twice about their actions. “People really need to think about what they do before they do it. Because it’s senseless. It’s really senseless,” she said. Hastings officer charged with domestic assault

ASTINGS — A Hastings police officer who was arrested Oct. 30 has been charged with domestic assault. Cody Bland, 26, is charged with three misdemeanors according to court records: domestic assault with intentional cause of bodily injury, third degree assault and interfe with a public service company. Hastings Police Chief Pete Kortum said officers were dispatched around 7:45 p.m. to the scene for a possible assault. Bland was arrested on suspiction of third degree assault on his wife, Kortum said. Bland was taken to the
Adams County Jail and was later transferred to the Buffalo County Jail. Melodie Bellamy of Kearney County is a special prosecutor in the case. According to the arrest affidavit, the responding officer said Bland’s wife said her husband was acting strange after a few trips to the gas station. The affidavit states that Bland’s wife found a half drank alcoholic beverage in his car and empty cans. After confronting him about it, according to the affidavit, Bland’s wife said her husband became aggressive. The affidavit states that Bland threw multiple objects at his wife while their child was in the living
room. Family members responded to a text for help. The affidavit states Bland slapped and kicked his mother during the incident. Bland was placed on leave from the police department. He’d been a Hastings officer for four years, Kortum said. Bland’s bond was set at 10 percent of $5,000, which was filed on Oct. 31.
