Fall 2023 Monday, Sept. 18, noon-1 p.m. | Dows Multipurpose Room Dr. Annamaria Formichella and Dr. Joel Berrien, Jr. will conduct a Table Talk entitled, Understanding Myself - Do I Belong in the Conversation About Diversity? Since a great first step to engaging in diversity and inclusion is understanding yourself, you are invited to join this session to learn about your social identities and how our identities influence us.
Tuesday, Sept. 19, 1-2 p.m. The Diversity Ambassadors will virtually host a CIC BELONG Cornerstone Webinar entitled, Strategies for Fostering Inclusive Campus Communities: Mitigating Stereotype Threat and Imposter Phenomenon. Attendees will be individually provided with a link to the webinar that will enable the attendees to watch the webinar in their offices or any location of their choice. A list of attendees will be taken and provided to Katie McKibben, and a brief reflective discussion of the webinar will be organized.
Friday, Oct. 6, noon-1 p.m. Actionable Strategies for Providing My Students with An Equal Opportunity to Succeed (Faculty Friday Workshop) Dr. Joel Berrien, Jr. will provide faculty members with eight key actionable strategies for identifying diversity, equity, and inclusion in their course materials and, thereby, providing their students with an equal opportunity to succeed. Afterwards, faculty members will be provided with a hypothetical course and name, and they will work together in small groups to incorporate some of the strategies presented in this workshop in an effort to provide the students in the hypothetical course with an equal opportunity to succeed.
Monday, Oct. 9, 3-4 p.m. | Dows Multipurpose Room The Diversity Ambassadors will host a “Coffee & Conversation” session on Using Inclusive Language. During this conversation, we will discuss how inclusive language puts our humanity at the center and allows us to feel recognized, valued, invited, and motivated to contribute at their highest level. A coffee bar and other refreshments will be provided.
Monday, Nov. 6, 1-2 p.m. But I Treat All People the Same – Isn’t This the Right Approach? (Belongingness Workshop) Most people strive to treat all people the same, but sometimes the unconscious messages we are sent through school, the media, our family, friends, etc. have more of an impact than we realize. This session will break down how we are socialized to see the world and begin conversations around our unconscious bias.
