Justo Diéguez, creator of the revolutionary Keysi Fighting Method, tackles this first video of a complete instructional series, focusing on different sequences of action-reaction in situations of risk. Our natural barriers: hands, arms, elbows, shoulders, skull and legs, help us protect our weakest areas. Properly used, they create a flexible and articulated protective frame, which works for us spontaneously and naturally. Justo Diéguez provides us with the keys and explanations to deal with grip situations and find the way to get rid of them by applying our hammer blows, Pensaevo, P e n s a c o d o , Pensachoque, knee strikes and low kicks, and using everyday objects that we can use as weapons. The video also analyzes the 3 distances, short, medium and long, as well as the anticipation work. Body mechanics teaches us to react in an explosive manner and reach the proper distance to apply the techniques. To this end, shade training with the Sand Bag and Focus Gloves teaches us to apply each movement in a structured way, so as to understand the way in which each blow fits into a certain situation. We cannot guess what will it happen on the street, but we know just as well that there's always a possibility for the unexpected to happen. In that case, we must have a very instinctive and explosive response capacity, in order to get out of the situation. The video also analyzes the 3 distances, short, medium and long, as well as the anticipation work.

“Feeling important makes one heavy, clumsy and vain. To be a warrior one needs to be light and fluid.” Carlos Castaneda

ow small we are all! Our inconsequential lives are filled with importance, especially because whether we like it or not, we live them in the first person. Some, totally wrapped in the character they represent, not even that, because justifying themselves in such fiction, end up living alienated in a role, or a dream, in pursuit of their personal conviction, paranoia or melodrama. But all of us, in our little world, under the sheets, at some point unmasked, have to know about our inferior condition. No matter how fast we erase that image, even if we hide behind the excuse of sustaining our personal courage after a difficult life, as a justification for an ego that must fight and stand firm and live, for the sake of our dignity and self-esteem, the truth is that what Castaneda brilliantly defined as "The personal importance", ends up being a treacherous trap that consumes, cajoles and confuses all of us. Everything that gives value and sustains the ego, whether positive or negative, is "personal importance", an expression that, although from now on I will stop quoting, it implies exactly that for all of us: Personal importance are the quotation marks we continue adding to everything in life. It's as if the facts lacked all thrust on the balance scale until we put them in quotation marks. As a matter of fact, the same event that for one is bad, can be magnificent for another one. Personal importance is responsible for placing the adjectives in our minds, coloring the images and uploading them with value. Everything that gives value to things is based on this curious recital, capable of making beautiful the horrible, or justifying the most extravagant outburst in the context of the plainest normality. Although only people possess this magnetic unifier of adjectives, every society or culture ends up gathering around a set of rules that are deposited as a barrage of personal experiences in a moral norm. This in turn, sooner or later will have to be overcome by itself, when the protective bubble it creates, will begin to be perceived more like a suffocating cage than a protection.

“Ordinary people are able to incorporate new elements into their inventory, as long as the new elements do not contradict the basic order of that inventory. But if the elements contradict that order, the mind of the person collapses. The inventory is the mind.” Carlos Castaneda How can we not have personal importance? How can we stop being vulnerable to this titanic enemy? There is only one way for it; a path that entails ceasing to be human. The detachment and selfabandonment proper to a renounced monk, without being so, must be mixed with the absolute domination of a self which is no longer personal. But, what shall we be then? To have everything of something of which we don't want to have anything? Clearly, the wisest among the wise, have come to rescue us at this point to differentiate the soul from the Ego. But beyond semantic tricks, for most that difference is not greater than the thickness of the wing of a butterfly. How can you measure a priori something you don't even know it exists until you find it? The higher you ascend in the path of consciousness, life or knowledge, the more evident it becomes that choices are getting shorter. Differences become more and more subtle, as well as more radical, and therefore prices are more expensive. A small mistake when you start climbing up the mountain is not the same as a mistake when you are about to reach the top. That's why the sage slows down his temper, reproves his reactions and measures his facts much more than the ignorant, who enters situations like an elephant in glassware. More control with greater detachment? These two virtues seem indispensable, whatever the path of growth through which your feet may lead you. We cannot be great without both things having nested in our souls, for neither can be feigned or faked. Deceiving ourselves at this point is always dangerous, because personal importance acquires multiple forms, and justifies everything in the name of our understanding, always subjective, always relative. Good and evil, crucible of all the best and the worst of humans, far from being black or white, enjoy the infinite range of grays in which they slide, and in their flow, the confusion to which they submit us. In our little world, in the end, it's surprisingly a child who decides.

Keysi After the spectacular reception of his first video with Budo International, there were many requests for a new video by Justo Diéguez, KEYSI, dedicated and focused on the technique of this style. Justo's numerous commitments have delayed its appearance, but today, at last, I have the pleasure of to present an instructional video about Keysi. In this article, Justo introduces us to the unique and peculiar origins that underlie the gestation of this system, and are directly linked to his personal experience since his childhood. It's a fantastic and matchless story, a trip to the entrails and traumas of a child subjected to bullying and his struggle to overcome himself and defend himself from desperate situations. It tells us about the pain and the difficult childhood of a seeker who came out literally from the mines, to achieve international success both as a teacher and as a choreographer, in films such as "Batman, the Dark Knight", opening a new style of shooting movie fights, that has been copied over and over again. It's the story of a fighter, of a man and his destiny, of a Master called to influence many. Alfredo Tucci

Keysi... why? I must begin by saying that "Keysi" is not an Oriental name, it's the transformation of three words in Spanish: "Que-y-sí", and it started long before it became the name of a method; it dates back to the situation and the moment a child's loving parents tried to correct him a wrongly pronounced word. When my folks told me "you have to do this..." I would always respond "Qui sí!" (pron. "KEE SI"). The correct answer should have been "QUE SÍ" (pron. "KEH SI"), Spanish colloquial expression formed by the adverb SÍ (yes) and reinforced by the conjunction QUE (that) to stress out its affirmative sense. My mother decided to correct me and told me that what I had to say was "QUE" and "SÍ", that is, "QUE-Y-SÍ", emphasizing the pronunciation of both words, separated by "Y" (and), which obviously she also pronounced. And I, with the innocence of a child, translated it my way by answering "queysi" (sic). In the end, my mother gave up correcting me fed up with my stubbornness, and consequently I ended up with the nickname of "queysi" (sic). Years later I only modified the spelling by substituting "Q" by "K". Born on October 12, 1957, I was brought up in a small mining town called Ultrillas, in the province of Teruel (Spain). It was a very special and tough town "where you had to learn to stick up for yourself or suffer the consequences." From an early age I witnessed

Keysi quite a few brutal situations and I quickly realized that if I wanted to do something with my life, I needed to get away from that place. Therefore, at the age of 10, and at my request, my parents took me to a Salesian monastery, where I spent 3 years. After that time, without finding answers, and not being a good student, I returned home and when I turned 14 I set off to work in the coal mines. The mine is a very hard and difficult place for a 14-year-old boy. It was full of violent and ruthless men, people who lived without fear of recrimination, or confrontation. It was then when, being still a child, I set myself a goal: never be a victim. It was definitely an extremely brutal period of my life.

The Keysi method and its tools I can't talk to you about the Keysi method and its techniques without telling you its gestation and birth. I keep embracing the source of my memories, thanks to it the method was born. Keysi is a name that represents that period in the human being's life, in which the innocence of a child full of illusions can conquer the world, driven by the need to seek and discover. It's a journey into the unknown of our lives, the memory of who you are and where you come from, unvarnished, from that innocence and freshness to know who you are, where you are and where your life is headed. That's what inspired me to call my baby "Keysi", and it still is my source of inspiration for many reasons; maybe because I had a childhood in which I daily suffered some kind of physical harassment or other verbal confrontation, and none of these was an option. I was a child trying to toughen with the situations I had to face day after day, but at the same time, I was rebellious and non-conformist, I wanted something more. That's what inspired me to call my baby "Keysi", and it still is my source of inspiration for many reasons; maybe

because I had a childhood in which I daily suffered some kind of physical harassment or other verbal confrontation, and none of these was an option. I was a child cutting his teeth with the situations I had to face day after day, and at the same time, I was rebellious and non-conformist, I wanted something more. I remember one day, in the middle of a children’s brawl, I found myself on the floor in a fetal position. Wrapping my head with my hands, I raised my knees to my elbows to close my body as

much as possible and protect myself, thinking that the less gaps I had, the fewer blows I would take; but the fact is that I received many blows, and that day, when I returned home, I felt so helpless and desolate, that I went straight to the kitchen and hid under the table, kicking and screaming out of rage and impotence.

One day, being under the table... Tired of crying, I lay on my side and embraced myself in a fetal position. I don't know why, but at one point I recognized myself on the ground and in the same position in which I had been protecting myself during the fight. With my hands on my head and my legs tightly folded against my body, a thought crossed my mind making me leap so

strong I almost disassembled the table with my head. I saw myself on the floor surrounded by other children, and although it was just my imagination, I was so hidden in my arms and legs that I was couldn't open my eyes and look around. For a long time, I did not find a way out of that situation. My fear of being beaten was much greater than my need to find the exit. Again and again I lay down under the kitchen table with my legs folded against my body with my hands over my head, and slowly, as if it came out from the inside, everything began to make sense: I lay on the left side, folded and hugging myself; from there I passed to lay on my back and then to the right side position; I started to feel that under that table there was a space, a world within this world as unknown as attractive to me, a world with a power that made me feel well, and I started to enjoy everything. The whole process inflamed me, and this passion gradually became a ritual that I enjoyed, a ritual in which I discovered things in me that I could never have imagined. Of course, it didn't happen

overnight, it was a gradual process that took place within the period from 6 to 10 years old.

I steeled myself and opened my eyes I remember one day, in a schoolyard brawl, I was lying on the floor, surrounded by children ready to hit me. I gathered the courage to and opened my eyes. During my sessions under the table, I had discovered that if I didn't open my eyes, I couldn't know where the table legs were and groping was not a good idea; I had to know and see where they were, if I wanted to react and use my hands. As I opened my eyes, I was surprised by the huge commotion around me; pushes, grips, pulls and two kids on top of me. From my perspective everything was chaotic and the two kids I had over me wouldn't let me move. I had to get out of there! I tried to get up and what I did was grabbing one of them by the ankle; this helped me to turn around and try to get on my knees; my achievement lasted a very brief moment, because they immediately threw me down one more time; but there was something else that surprised me at that moment and marked me for the rest of my life, because when my hand grabbed my opponent's ankle I left my face unprotected, and as a consequence I took a good blow. The boy that had hit me didn't even have had the chance or the time to think: "he's unprotected ... I can hit him now..." It simply happened like that. That made me start to think; in fact, it's still a reason for constant analysis,

an analysis that nowadays I call: "Doors and Windows".

A protective frame, the doors We have several natural barriers: Hands, arms, elbows, shoulders, even the skull and legs, that will help us protect our weakest areas. These barriers are those that, when correctly used, create a flexible and articulated protective framework that spontaneously and naturally works for us. That flexibility to change levels thanks to body mechanics and its chameleonic capacity for constant change, gives us the ability not only to create a shield around us, but also to use those same tools for attack.

“Another great discovery took place understanding how vulnerable we are, when I realized that there is no perfect guard.

Keysi Flexible and articulated windows I had already discovered that not protecting myself had consequences and I didn't know how to solve that problem, but I knew that to be able to move in any situation, I had to learn to observe, to use one of the most important tools in a risk situation: my eyes. Imagine for a moment that you are at home and you look out the window; I had to learn to look through those windows and not only to look, I also had to know how to close them without unprotecting myself. The windows are the incredible consequence of the gaps that form these

barriers and that help us as observers from the inside of our shield of protection.

Discovering the Levers Every day, when I got home, I’d sneak under the table without a thought. All my obsession was to analyze each situation and try to understand what I had done and why it had come out that way. I started my routine from the back to sitting position and for this I used my natural levers; I rolled on my back / shoulder, arm and hand to make a lever which pushed me to the sitting position; here I could

Keysi “A way of life and growth, which today still continues to inspire my creativity and motivating thousands of Keysi practitioners.

figure out how to turn on my back, taking as reference the 4 legs of the table. So I listed them, and as I randomly named each number, my goal was to turn on my back and put my legs between that table leg (opponent) and my head. This taught me another lesson that I shouldn't forget: though I could put my legs between that table leg and my head, I would actually be protecting myself only against an opponent. What about those three remaining legs (opponents)? Behind my head there was another leg, and two more, one on either side of my body. How could I protect myself from several opponents? Another great discovery took place understanding how vulnerable we are, when I realized that there is no perfect guard. This new discovery led me to find different possibilities and increased my curiosity. I then learnt that if I used my arms as a lever, while grabbing onto the table leg, I would get a bigger boost to get out or change my positioning. In this way I began to recognize that from the back position, not only could I turn my body and put my legs between an opponent and I, but with the lever of my arm, I could also modify my situation from lying on my back to sitting, or use the arm lever while grabbing the opponent's leg, so that I would get an extra energy to position myself sitting or turn with more impetus. As days passed by, I was feeling more and more motivated and creative, and this process continued to grow and develop like a snowball rolling down the hill. Indeed, these confrontations didn't seem to bother me anymore; I knew that the

Keysi moment of analysis would come later, and between weeping and tears, I would be there again, under the blessed table. I have spoken to you in this article, from my perspective of adult and from an experience and a knowledge that obviously, I didn't have when I was eight or ten. This is the first of several articles in which I will be gradually telling you and developing this incredible adventure, a way of life and growth, which today still continues to inspire my creativity and motivating thousands of Keysi practitioners. A way of understanding Self-Defense from within the human being and with a clear goal: Personal development and, as a consequence, understanding the reality in the street, where the assailant, the Predator, becomes the Prey, and the victim, the Prey, becomes the Predator.

Interview Continuation of the "video interview" conducted by our Director to Sifu Salvador Sรกnchez, that can be viewed in instalments through the link that we include in these pages. In the interview, Sifu Sรกnchez openly reflects on several aspects of Martial Arts in general, and of WingTsun in particular, questioning with simplicity and naturalness some of the most controversial points, such as tradition versus modernity, which although he analyzes them framed in his own experience within the Yip Man's Art, they have a much wider projection, because, after all, they are a recurring issue in other systems. Very interesting! Do not miss it!

Alfredo Tucci: Oh, yes, that's true! It comes a moment in which you can't help asking yourself the old question: Tradition or modernity? But is it really a question that needs to be asked? As you say, basically there is nothing new under the sun... And in the end it seems that this s u b j e c t re s e m b l e s t h e f a s h i o n i n w h i c h everything is repeated, everything returns to end up looking very much like what it was at some point ... that leads you to wonder if there is really anything new. Sifu Salvador Sånchez: I always say that ideas overtake even to ourselves! And people laugh and ask me: Why do you say that? But ideas will survive even our opinions. The Art of War has not changed in two thousand five hundred years; it hasn't changed a bit! Military technology has changed; in the old days we used to carry a sword and a dagger and nowadays nobody carries a sword or a dagger, people carry firearms and in fifty years from now, well, I don’t know ... there will be other things, other weapons; but the general idea about combat, at the end, will keep being two individuals who fight, who face each other with four limbs, and with something thick and big on top, which is the head, something that in theory is what directs everything. And that has not changed ... Everything is the same as five hundred years ago, fifteen hundred years, that's why those who say that traditional

Wing Tsun Martial Arts are no longer useful are mistaken. How can they be labeled as useless when they were elements and forms of development and combat with which you could defend yourself when your life was in danger? It doesn't make any sense! In my opinion, it's the training way what must progress... and they are evolving to reach today's methods and, on the other hand, the modern combat sports, MMA, which for me have been a blessing, because despite some see them as the devil, MMA and contact sports have precisely come to act as a counterweight to generate balance between modernity and tradition. Nothing new under the sun, indeed, but we can change the way we approach training, the way we work out, and today, that's part of our business... and let's not deceive ourselves, Martial art and all that is basically leisure and fun... It's health, well-being, but techniques have not changed, so I don't understand the reason for having to position myself in this matter either as a "traditionalist" or as a "modernist"... Well, no! I'm not one or the other! I decided to be both! Alfredo Tucci: What does Brazilian Jiu Jitsu have that Wing Tsun doesn't? Sifu Salvador Sรกnchez: Well, Wing Tsun has never had ground fighting techniques, perhaps by the very nature of the style and by the origin where it arose, in the south of China, where there were no such predators as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or Grappling systems. Because in the end Brazilian Jiu Jitsu relies greatly on the kimono, and so does the

“Military technology has changed; in the old days we used to carry a sword and a dagger and nowadays nobody carries a sword or a dagger, people carry firearms and in fifty years from now, well, I don’t know ... there will be other things, other weapons; but the general idea about combat, at the end, will keep being two individuals who fight, who face each other with four limbs, and with something thick and big on top, which is the head, something that in theory is what directs everything. And that has not changed.

Grappling... Any wrestling system brings several things to the practitioner of Wing Tsun or any other traditional Martial Art: At the technical level, it trains him in the way to deal with the prey. In the end, traditional systems fail because they move so far away from the pressure, from the real pressure of the adversary, that they distort the Art of Wrestling. In the absence of pressure, you can do everything you want, very showy techniques, nice movements... you can decorate your techniques... pressure won't allow you to do that. In this point is where Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Grappling, wrestling in general, teaches you that the pressure will always be there! It's an oscillation, a lesson in Taoism! As for pressure, either the opponent has it or you have it. One is Yang, the other Yin... one is a “pasador”, the other is a “guardeiro” ... In Wing Tsun one attacks, the other defends... it doesn't matter, you have to live with that, because that's the evolution way; you only develop in combat, living and fulfilling the pressure. In that aspect, Jiu Jitsu, Grappling, Wrestling, whatever, Sambo, Greco-Roman Wrestling, anything! will teach you precisely that, but then, in what for me is the most important part (for me and for any practitioner of traditional Arts!), what gives you more, is that mentally makes you lose "everything you have." A traditional Martial Arts practitioner is always "winning", he or she wins all the time; a student strikes back, then you show off, do your technique, dominate. In wrestling that does not exist!

“As for pressure, either the enemy has it or you have it. One is Yang, the other Yin... one is a passer, the other is a retainer... In Wing Tsun one attacks, the other defends... it doesn't matter, you have to live with that, because that's the evolution way; you only develop in combat, living and fulfilling the pressure.

Interview

In wrestling you fight, you win and you lose every single day, so winning or losing becomes something natural again ... because that's how it is in life, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose ... it always depends on who is in front of you ... For me that's a healthy thing; it's healthy for a Martial Arts practitioner who wants to develop, who seeks to follow the Way of Budo, and until he grows old he always tries to improve; you don't have to get used to winning, it's a sick thing, it's crazy, but not many people think, "How can I ever lose?" ... Look ... sometimes you win, sometimes you lose ... and for me, these two aspects, the aspect of pressure and, of course, the mental aspect, are the main contribution of the practice of Wrestling. And I think it's a lot! I am convinced that practicing Wrestling, for me as well as any practitioner of Traditional Martial Arts, is also a test of humility. Alfredo Tucci: However, you're only teaching Wing Tsun, it seems that your professional career is basically directed in this direction ... Sifu Salvador Sånchez: That’s absolutely true!... and for a very simple matter ... Many people ask me: "But what do you like the most?" Well ... it's like asking a child: "Who do you love more Dad or Mom?" I was born in the Wing Tsun. Wing Tsun has given me everything in life. I love Wing Tsun, out of passion, but I also have an obligation; I have on my shoulders the weight of a lineage; that for many is something that is already out of fashion, but for me it is something important.

Wing Tsun Wing Tsun Kung Fu has granted me everything I am in life ... it allows me to have my home, my family, to teach professionally and make up a living with my schools, and that implies that I also have a obligation with it and to the level of tradition. Tradition is the transmission of a knowledge that came t o m e b y c h a nce, let's say it so. However, this knowledge is not mine; it came to me but it doesn't belong to me; I have to pass it to others and transmit it in the best way, in the purest way. That's why sometimes

they also tell me: "But you could have more people in your schools if you acted otherwise..." Yes, but what I will never do is prostituting myself or prostituting the knowledge that came to me ... I'll try to do my best and pass it on to others. And if for that I have to pay the price of not having the school with more practitioners in the world, I don’t mind at all. Life it’s not just about receiving, you also have to know how to give; I feel that I have to fulfill my responsibility and I don't think it could be otherwise.

Martial Arts‌. In times of arrogance! “I'm about to make my last voyage, a great leap in the dark.â€? Thomas Hobbes

Eastern wisdom, unlike that of the West, submits that a true master is he who brings about transformations and does not hesitate to stand before his pupil so as to make him become still a better person. However, much has been confused and much is still confused, by making modern life a point of support for the miniscule vision of the technical that only perfects the material condition.

“It’s difficult to make a common mind (based only on external values), subjugated by the illusion of the senses, understand that the reality of the training, whatever it may be, exists so that our personal experience becomes at least bearable.”

Bugei aster n wisdom, unlike Western wisdom, believes that the true master is the one who brings about change, who does not hesitate to stand before the student so that he or she becomes a better person. However, much has been confused, and much is still confused, making modern life a foothold for the tiny view of the technician who perfects only the material condition. Regardless of sport, culture, race, sex, etc., life expands and contracts as we adapt to its realities. The line of reverberation that exists in the masterpupil relationship can never be limited solely to the idea of bodily or even earthly construction, bearing in mind that coexistence among humans is also due to the need for re-adjustments in other dimensions. This is why we mustn’t confuse the relationship between the one who seeks the path of self-improvement and those who simply pursue overtaking others, thus evidencing a competitive and presumptuous spirit. Once a student, at the height of his vanity, asked me: "... If so-and-so has said that I have the level for master graduation, why can't I take the exam?" "It's simple - I replied -. You lack the most important thing: humility!" Having a good technique is not the hardest; everything that is "constructible" through repetition is nothing more than a training. It’s difficult to make a common mind (based only on

Bugei external values), subjugated by the illusion of the senses, understand that the reality of the training, whatever it may be, exists so that our personal experience becomes at least bearable. This curious placement, and therefore reflection, brings us to the point where not exercising the flexibility of consciousness, or even the vision that goes beyond forms, transforms the being into a part of a fraction of acts that, in the own and consequent evidence, leaves it at the mercy of fall or triumph - so present in this world of appearances. Therefore, it is not from now on that human life and the destiny of man are based on this; rise and fall, win and be defeated ... This destiny is narrated to us from prehistory, and up to this day we've always chosen not to learn. "Customs come from the habit converted into character," Thomas Hobbes said. Several times, with the tool of reflection, I've seen arrogance being part of human sadness; whether in the image of a friend, student, acquaintance, relative .... In modern times this fate of ignorance, arrogance, has greatly contributed to a reality that doesn't go beyond discontent and pain; each one feels it in a way that makes him or her rethink the own truths (good and bad) and redraw his or her dreams. In depth, I think it necessary for the arrogant to see in himself the

“Once a student, at the height of his vanity, asked me: "... If so-and-so has said that I have the level for master graduation, why can't I take the exam?" ‘It's simple - I replied -. You lack the most important thing: humility!’”

Bugei consequence of his acts, just as the ignorant sees himself ignored. Within this tendency, or through it, there is a passage for the transgression that must be found, a tangible reality that the world must experience. In any case, if the master is the one who indicates the pupil the path to follow (and nothing else), life slips into more relevant reasons than those that only changed the clouds of the past and the present to an uncertain future; many are aware of the difficulty of moving forward. Even the Master is the one who knows when it is time to stop, not to teach anymore. ... The reason? It's simple: being free! Both the teacher and the student share the same reality that gives us the condition of being better, more just, more true with ourselves ... "... And the arrogant?" - asks me a student who is now beginning his studies. He who rebels and abuses his freedom then experiences the need for pain. As Ubaldi said: "... But not of pure and simple pain, which in itself is a sterile idea; but a pain that does not nor cannot have any other meaning than that of an instrument of redemption... " All of us, as humans, are subject to live, in different circumstances, realities and perspectives that can transform us for better or worse. No matter how much we deny it, life transforms us into different stages through its implacable way of questioning us. In a significant process that brings us back to the ideas that always clash with the eternal questions: "Is it worth it?", "For what?" ... without doubt our days are marked by regrets, intrigues, betrayals ... The life of real masters is built on debris and references, adventures that go all the way back to a whole process of internal growth and evolutionary progression. At least, we hope so ...

“The life of real masters is built on debris and references, adventures that go all the way back to a whole process of internal growth and evolutionary progression.

Bugei Anyway, moving forward means being stronger than circumstances... don't you think? Outraged by some recent events in Spain, a friend of mine tells me that justice is blind, because a teacher who was attacked by adolescent students in a certain school, is still recovering after a long time. The problem goes further: the life of the assaulted teacher has been shattered, confined forever to a wheelchair, while the perpetrators of the aggression were barely sentenced to pay a small fine for they didn't have a criminal record... "There is much talk about the cruelty and brutality of the medieval man. But is modern man better?" - said Rachel de Queiroz. Social totality teaches us that the reactions we present to the facts must always take into account the perspectives of justice. But what happens when justice fails? In depth, this family man, who studied so much for teaching, is prevented from moving forward with his dreams. Soon, someone says, "... But he still can go in a wheelchair ..." "Pepper in someone else's eyes is refreshing, isn't it?" (popular expression used to say that life misunderstandings are easier to face when they occur to other people than when they happen to ourselves). "He still can go in a wheelchair..." This unfortunate remark, however well-intentioned it may be to try to minimize pain, has to be fitted with common sense, and

“All of us, as humans, are subject to live, in different circumstances, realities and perspectives that can transform us for better or worse.

therefore choose well the moment, the hour, for such an attitude. What for someone seems a solution, for somebody else may be the root of his or her disgrace; and vice versa. Michel de Montaigne said that "cowardice is the mother of cruelty." Thus the infinite human miseries and disgrace are understood; in view of wars and ethnic conflicts ... The world is now in an era of transformations and in an eternal "rumination", since, for old conflicts to be resolved, pain and resentment must return to the surface again. Michel de Montaigne says: "Cowardice is the mother of cruelty" This is how the infinite miseries and human misfortunes are understood, in view of wars and ethnic conflicts ... The world is now passing through an era of transformations and an eternal "rumination", since, in order to resolve old conflicts, you must bring out your pains and grudges to the surface. I have seen that happen with many people around me. Former students, friends, acquaintances who, now more mature, demand a kind of forgiveness‌ and there I always say: "To each his own..." Although forgiveness is one of the most valued gestures among the virtues, if there is no real pardon, it's an outrage to the very act of forgiving. Contrary to that, overcoming, through forgiveness, some situation, is to overcome the path in the descending direction to go up again and, from there, live new realities. "Nobody is bad, and how much evil has been done." Victor Hugo

Jeet Kune Do Plant a seed or an adult tree If everybody is aware that the practice of martial arts and combat sports require lot of times and years of sacrifices, before getting a satisfying level, but in reality, few people are able to and ready for all the sacrifices. Indeed, in our society where everything must go fast and or people want to get all without efforts, It is not topical for a huge part of people to take time to progress respecting essential steps to get a real level. The players want to become teachers even before having a level which makes them able to teach their knowledge in their respective arts. I was called many times in order to ask me for informations about my club where I teach and after few minutes, I was asked the question When will I be certified as instructor? Several years ago, something like that did not happen and no one would have dared ask the question to a teacher, it was considered as inappropriate and disrespectful.

Jeet Kune Do “If everybody is aware that the practice of martial arts and combat sports require lot of times and years of sacrifices, before getting a satisfying level, but in reality, few people are able to and ready for all the sacrifices.

Moreover, this question, if it was asked in the past, had only the consequence of the pushing back of the obtaining of the black belt and the permission to teach. It was an honour to become teacher in the discipline we practised for many years, but this honour was always a surprise from our teacher or master. In no case, the student dared to ask for becoming a teacher because each student respected the time he had to practise and understand what he was taught to him. Each student knew too that all the techniques took years to be assimilated and mastered. We knew perfectly what was the respect of the teacher, the time o f p r a c t i c e n e c e s s a r y, t h e martial traditions... f a teacher was too in a hurry or ambitious, the teacher put to the test his ambition. Indeed, be ambitious is a quality if we give the means of our ambition. Nevertheless, It requires a lot of work and sacrifices. Unfortunately, in our contemporary societies, nobody want to take time for anything. We want all and now, without the vital work to reach his goal we want to.This society rots and discredits all the acquired values during hundred years of evolution of martial arts. If it was necessary to evolve in our disciplines it did not mean, in no case, the destruction of the very longer time of practise in order to getting a high level of sufficient knowledge in order to be able to transmit which was taught to us.

The evolution was to be found in the fact of removing always excessive grades which only used to flatter the ego of certain teachers who raced to the obtaining unappropriated title like high master, supreme high master or other ( watch the article in Budo International magazine) Nevertheless, the evolution did not remove the time, this essential one to the creation of life which took million years . Indeed, It is essential to take time to built ourself. Nobody is able to run without knowing to walk or to talk correctly without having stammer first. But, nowadays people forget the foundation of agriculture that is to say the time to get a tree or a gathering of cereal for example. This image corresponds perfectly to the arts we practise and we want to represent and transmit. Getting a tree or a gathering whatever is it, will take time, as the time of gestation before giving birth to a living being. Time is a major parameter of all on our planet and in the universe. Without this time nothing will be stable and finished. If we plant a seed, before this one become a tree or wheat for example it will take time a lot of attention and work from the person who will have planted the seed.

Jeet Kune Do

“I was called many times in order to ask me for informations about my club where I teach and after few minutes, I was asked the question” When will I be certified as instructor?”

Jeet Kune Do

A farmer when he sows, knows perfectly well that the following day the seed will not have sprouted and given the result of his work. You need a lot of time before this seed sprouts and the farmer can harvest the fruit of that seed. But, in our consumer societies, we notice a demand always more important of reduction of time in order to get harvest in a fast way, at the risk of destroying the planet. So, we use pesticides, fertilisers and others substitutes in order to respect supply and demand for accelerating the harvests and increasing the productivity. It is the same in the martial arts where we form teachers in one or two years ( when It is not in a week end in order to respond to an increasing demand of teachers, more and more important at the risk of getting teachers totally incapable of transmitting correctly, hurt or destroy dreams of certain of their students willing to teach later) Unfortunately, these teachers of a new time, develop for certain of them an overinflated ego and take each students as a rival they have to destroy and demotivated for fear that they are more skilful and get more students and more reputation as them. It is abnormal to see these destructive drifts, as all sort of drifts we see in farming, with an overproduction which brings his lot of alimentary lack for men and animals and the necessity to complete by alimentary medicines of living beings in order to overcome imaginary lack if we respected the essential time to the creation of anything. Moreover, we try to change in the martial arts as in the farming, the result of any seed or food. Indeed, if we plant a seed to get an oak tree, we will not be able to get, in no case, a pine tree. It is the same as the eating aberrations of the

Jeet Kune Do bovines where they are fed with animal flours less expensive whereas they are herbivores. It is the same in the martial arts and combat sports where a simple student gifted for the practice, will be certified teacher as if he has no skill for teaching. Or, this same one will be formed in two years in order to develop the discipline to respond to an increase demand without considering the essential time to form a skilful teacher an able to transmit his knowledge acquired correctly, to his future students. I think that the influx of new martial disciplines has contributed a lot, in the same way as the alimentary overconsumption in some countries, to a flagrant degradation of the quality of our teachers or our eating. We do not want to plant a seed and see if it will sprout in spite of climatic ordeals or environmental ones (insects, animals,..), and if this one will arrive at maturation in order to give the expected fruit. We must not forget that formerly, a planted seed did not give systematically a result because this one could never sprout or arrive at maturation in spite of time.

It was the part of the risk of any seeds or any pollination by insects. In no case, we could predict, in spite of all treatments brought, the result of the development of each planted seed. Nowadays, we laugh at quality, we only want productivity, so we prefer instead of sowing a seed, plant an adult tree which will not have evolved naturally over time in order to get a solid and strong tree. Moreover, the roots of an adult tree, must develop where his seed sprouted in order to get a stable tree which will be able to resist over the centuries. But, an adult tree only ends in a result, its destruction in any storm or any climate disorder. It is the same in the martial arts, we form people in few days, few weeks, or few years whereas we need a life to be formed, reassessing at each step of our progress. Since they were certified, this new sort of teacher have not been training, and do something else without ever reassessing and without any wish to evolve in the discipline they teach. They prefer having a catalogue as in a supermarkets or as the business cards in our letter boxes where the

“Unfortunately, these teachers of a new time, develop for certain of them an overinflated ego and take each students as a rival they have to destroy and demotivated for fear that they are more skilful and get more students and more reputation as them.

craftsperson repairs all things and do anything, rather than being really skilful in what they teach. The main purpose is not the skill, the passion, ad he love of their arts, but only to take centre stage as a majestic tree and planted as an adult unfortunately whereas it has never grown naturally by taking time to. So, the main goal for these teachers is not the wellbeing of their students, the honorable representation of the disciplines they teach, but only money, egocentrism, selfishness, and the unjustified acknowledgement of a level which will be never acquired over the time. The seed will always have to take time to sprout and no one or living being will not be able to change it in spite of the advance of the science. Time is restrictive but it makes the beauty and the force of our planet and of anything which is surrounding us in the universe. This time which can be so restrictive, make us appreciate in real the work done in our arts. So, it is a real pleasure to be able to return and gaze at all the work done during the time and appreciate the ordeals and the mistakes which bordered our path and so noticed that without this time we will have never become what we are today. All what we live, nice or unpleasant, aim to forge the teacher that we are and this does not happen in a week end or in few years but all along our life.

The strategy of evasion in Muay Boran Is it really possible to physically direct the force of a superior adversary against him? Is the theory of all the Far Eastern Martial Arts that the weak can overcome the strong real? Though in cases such as those we have just considered one should never generalize, it is true that the theories of fighting in almost all the Eastern combat disciplines are based on the concept that a rational use of the totality of physical and psychic capacities of the individual can give him the ability to do things normally considered impossible, or nearly so.

owever, the tough reality of the street or in the ring often seems to demonstrate exactly the opposite, that is, that the stronger, the more aggressive and heavier of the two participants generally wins the physical confrontation. So, how can one reconcile the theories of the Eastern masters with what one normally sees every day in the modern world? In traditional Muay Thai, it is often said that of the nine weapons at the disposition of each fighter—arms, legs,

elbows, knees, and head—it is the head that is the most important; of course, one understands the head in the sense of the mind, and therefore recognizing the superiority of a well-trained, thinking fighter over any aggressor who relies only on his physical strength. Nonetheless, though conceptually that theory undoubtedly shows great validity, the real problem that the Muay practitioner has to confront, as well as the practitioners of other forms of combat, is how to carry that universal principle out in practice, especially when in the rings

“We can observe that the evasive movement is common to all Martial Arts and Muay Boran is not an exception.”

around the world great care is taken to have adversaries of the same weight fighting in order to avoid a painful and dangerous defeat of the lighter of the two boxers. In reality, investigating a solution to the problem in the theories and fundamental techniques in the technical arsenal of the Muay Boran practitioner, one finds from among the 15 basic forms of the Siamese Art (the Mae Mai Muay Thai) one of the oldest and most effective systems to avoid being subdued by the attack of a physically larger and more aggressive adversary: that principle is found in the Number One Form, by order and importance, the Mae Mai denominated Salab Fan Pla, or Cross Stitch.

The idea that the most intelligent and effective way to finish with a violent confrontation consists of directing the force of the adversary against him is considered general theory, but without the capacity to “support the possible initial attack, to merge with it, the first phase of the fight for us will be the last; knowing to perfection the effective use of the semi-circular movement along with a skillful employment of the hands to hook a limb of the adversary and have it under our control is the basic condition to effectively apply the theory of Salab Fan Pla. In order to correctly execute the movement of Cross Stitch, the first phase consists of stepping out of the line of attack

following a diagonal path to the outside, evading the strikes and the attempts at grips, surrounding the adversary but staying at a distance at which at the same time we can execute our counter-attack. At a higher level, the counter-attack is simultaneous to the evasive movement so that for the adversary it will be impossible to execute a neutralizing action. Now, it is necessary to distinguish between the various versions of the evasion technique that the exponents of the principle regional styles of traditional Muay Thai transmit. In fact, the fighters specialized in “long” actions—often excellent kickers like the practitioners of the

style from the north, Muay Korat—tried to execute wider movements in order to place themselves in a position of counter-attack, remaining at a medium or long distance, and their Salab Fan Pla movement reflected that focus. In order to get an idea of this kind of move, it is sufficient to observe a modern Thai boxer (who we can generally consider the heir of the Korat style) in action in the ring trying to evade an attack circularly and counter-attacking with a kick or punch. Contrarily, a combatant from the southern style of Muay Chaiya, trained primarily in evasive combat but an excellent exploiter of very short distance strikes, would

“The image of the Thai boxer who advances toward the adversary with an exaggeratedly open guard position, unconcerned about receiving the blows of the one in front of him, in the majority of the cases, is deceptive.”

usually execute the same technique of Cross Stitch being much closer to the adversary and, in a certain sense, “adhering” to him; in reality, the objective of the Chaiya boxer executing Salab Fan Pla was to surround the adversary remaining as “stuck” to his center of gravity as possible, taking away the impetus of the offensive action and preparing himself for a devastating counter-attack. The direct consequence of what we have just mentioned is the necessity of developing a kind of explosive energy, fundamental for an effective and definitive response strike that, especially in the case of actions executed very close to the target, turn out not to be easy to learn; every good Kru Muay had to know how to develop that energetic crashing wave in the students by way of traditional exercises of their own original style. In conclusion, we can observe that the evasive movement is common to all Martial Arts and Muay Boran is not an exception: the image of the Thai boxer who advances toward the adversary with an exaggeratedly open guard position, unconcerned about receiving the blows of the one in front of him, in the majority of the cases, is deceptive. Furthermore, it is clear that the strikes of a superior (in terms of weight) adversary are much more difficult to absorb than those from an adversary who has our same weight. Our analysis has demonstrated how the elements of timing, reflexes, rhythm, and refined technique have always been considered fundamental by all the great Kru Muay, the Muay masters from the distant and more recent past. The very fact that the Cross Stitch strategy is the first that is taught to thousands of Thai boxers in the very mother country of the discipline demonstrates the importance that this fighting principle has, so difficult to learn yet so lethal if correctly applied to a real fight.

Budo Classics The Scientific Method Imention this term, “The Scientific Method quite often, but what exactly does it mean? How can science mix with art? In our case, it must. In this world that we live in, some things are purely subjective. Tastes in music, food, and art vary widely. Some people love rap music, others hate it. Most people love Italian food, yet I know a few people who want nothing to do with pizza and pasta. These sorts of tastes are subject to personal preference. It all depends upon how you feel about it. Other aspects of life are not subjective.

hile we might differ on our opinion about what the bestlooking car on the road is, we cannot argue about which is the fastest. Why? Because the speed can be tested. It can be subjected to the scientific method so that we know what the truth is. The same holds true for our Martial Arts training. We may have different opinions about what techniques look the nicest, but we can definitely test those same techniques to see how well they work under combat conditions. Testing is the basis of the scientific method, but it always starts with a hypothesis or theory. In other words, we have an idea that has not yet been proven. While attending USC, I was helping to research multiple sclerosis at UCLA medical center. The lead scientist had noticed that the symptoms in the canine parvo virus, for which there was a cure, were very similar to those of multiple sclerosis. His theory was that if we could look at all the protein differences in the two diseases, we might be able to find a common link that might lead to an eventual cure for MS. We then tested by painstakingly testing protein after protein. This took many years, and some parts of this research are still ongoing. We use the same method in our JKD training. We have a theory. For example, I might think up a new way to escape from side control. It certainly looks good on paper, and it seems to work well when my partner is not resisting me. Should I teach this technique? No, not yet. I need to test it first. What I will often do is show the technique to our class, and tell them that it is an experimental technique. Now we test it out with full resistance to see if it works. Only after sufficient testing do I teach the technique on a wide scale. A good example of this happened with a new technique that I learned for escaping from the knee mount. I then modified the escape to use it against the “kesa” side control position, where the person sits on their side to hold the

Budo Classics position. It worked quite well for me, until I tried it against Baret Yoshida, one of the very best grapplers in the world. I escaped the position, but Baret tucked and rolled and moved to a figure four toe hold. I tried the escape later in sparring and he did the same thing. This means that there is a problem with the technique. I thought about it, and further modified the move. I am in the process of testing it, but the new way seems to be even better than the old method, and it doesn’t put us in toe-hold danger. I wouldn’t have been able to improve the move unless I used the scientific method of testing. The scientific method is to have a hypothesis, test that hypothesis, and view the results truthfully. You can then adjust your theory and test again until you get positive, consistent results. “Consistent” is very important. We don’t want a technique that works only once in a while, we want something that works consistently! Through this method, we have safe air travel, telephone service, and satellite communications. If you ever have to use your Martial Arts in a selfdefense situation, you will be very glad to know that everything has been tested and proven to work. Through your own proper training, you will earn the right to be confident with your techniques.

Grandmaster Taejoon Lee, 8th Dan of Hwa Rang Do, and son of the founder, Dr. Joo Bang Lee, presents a comprehensive introduction to Gumtoogi, the Hwa Rang Do Sword Fighting. In swordsmanship, in a duel, it is about life or death, not winning or losing. There’s only one price for a mistake “death”; there are no do-overs. This is the true warrior’s mind-set. Gumtoogi is the best way of cultivating this “Warrior Ethos”, “The Hwarang Spirit!” Another way we like to think of it as: “One Cut, One Life!” In the search of creating a modern sport venue of weapon fighting that aligns with the comprehensiveness of the Hwa Rang Do curriculum, we seriously looked into the possibility of adopting an existing weapon fighting system with its equipment and armor. Thereby we have decided to use the Kendo/Kumdo armor by adding a modification in the form of a leg protector (Hache Hogu), that allows for leg strikes as well as spinning cuts, and incorporated the rotational strikes to make it unique to our Art of Hwa Rang Do. In addition, we practice fighting with all sizes, variations and combinations of swords (made in bamboo) as well as incorporating a wide range of movements and techniques. In this DVD, Grandmaster Taejoon Lee explains in detail the bases of stepping, distancing, basic strikes to head, wrist, waist and legs, spinning leg strike, counters and an introduction to Ssang-gum, Twin Swords.

Kyusho is the highest level of expression of any martial art. To understand Kyusho is to understand the knowledge of the reactions of the human body. In this DVD we will analyze the First Encounter, intended as the first analysis of a possible situation of confrontation, and the first evaluation of the possible progressions. We will analyze how Kyusho can help us and, as we know the reactions of the human body, we can reach the closest and most accessible point by anticipating the reactions of the aggressor. We will analyze Kyusho, according to my vision, developed in more than 20 years of practice of this art, but also derived from my experiences in other martial arts, including Ryukyu Kempo, Yoseikan Budo, Kick Boxing & Karate. Kyusho is the "turbocharger" of any technique, which can increase the effectiveness and efficiency of our action exponentially. And as the turbo for an engine is a part of a more complex and complete system, Kyusho is a part of any martial art, and can not replace the technical skill of the practitioner but can enhance any and all arts and techinques. Each martial art has its strategy, its principles and its techniques. If we analyze pure Kyusho I need the knowledge of 3 elements: an area to hit, an anatomical weapon to use, and what we call "Force Multipliers" to attack the opponent internally.

The PeĂąa Brothers, Marcos and JosĂŠ Antonio, still more mature and reflective in their Aikido, present us in their new work some of the techniques they practice in class, which are directed to help Aikido students to get out of the comfort zone in which they normally find themselves. In their own words: "The idea is that if you always do the same, your results will always be the same. There's no change in equality, but in diversity. That is why we have introduced some techniques in several attacks; with different angles, leg and hit, with weapon, with hook ... so that Aikido practitioners can train different distances and different rhythms, and respond to usual and real attacks. Aikido is Budo and, as such, it must work in a real situation, and for that it must be functional and effective. Our Aikido, like any other Martial Art, aims to neutralize the attacker, and it tries to do so by means of the greatest possible proportionality." A characteristic approach to the Art of Ueshiba that, far from rejecting its roots, delves into it without renouncing its essences, but redefining its contents, and bravely calling things by their right name.

Self-defense

The techniques of deception The feints, or moves of deception, can be perfectly combined with the skill of evaluating the use of the b o d y ’s w e a p o n s a n d t h e k i l l e r instinct. In the deceptive moves, we are dealing with inciting the adversary to execute a specific reaction with his hands, legs, eyes, etc., and of course, there are many ways to prepare a technique of deception. The most important is that the move predisposes the adversary to execute a specific defense, thereby opening “holes” that we can take advantage of, employing the necessary elements to attack his body effectively, which is to say, his weakest points.

Self-defense

eacting to a little hand movement, a stomp with the foot, a shout, etc., are natural and instinctive reactions of the human being. Martial artists with a lot of experience are also distracted by these maneuvers. The techniques of deception only work if the opponent reacts in a way that we have foreseen. The deceptive move should be clear, quick, dangerous, adaptable, and especially, precise, followed by a sharp, hard, and penetrating blow. A feint can be done standing and also on the ground, and of course with weapons like the stick or knives.

Self-defense

The Killer Instinct The advanced levels of the MA go beyond technique. One doesn’t call a person “Master” only for having a great technical domination, because technique by itself is not the objective, it is only a tool to reach our objectives. For a “Master” the aim of MA is found mostly in subduing his mind and his spirit, integrating them into his individuality. Thanks to hard and intense work, these qualities, just as they are described in my book, can be attained. For a fighter, the spirit is not only concentrated energy—thanks to the mental state that all fighters possess—but also the decisive factor for the action/reaction to determine the final result of the fight. Research around the world has demonstrated that 90% of the results of a fight are determined by the mental state of the combatants. So, it is the mind that holds the power. Jeet Kune Do is an art in continuous evolution, its concepts and principles are practically interchangeable. To change from one combat structure to another, one must naturally respect their possible adjustments and their different mentalities. The fact of being able to adapt and vary the way of fighting, of replacing one structure for another, allows us— in general terms—to fight an

Self-defense adversary physically bigger and stronger with great probabilities of success. In this way, for example, we go from the kicking and Boxing techniques to Tai Chi, with the aim of taking away the adversary’s balance and leading him into an unfavorable position in order to continue with head and knee attacks, just as find in some Kali techniques. With this simple example, I want to show you that we have changed four times, as much the mind as the combat structure. In the Martial Arts, such evolution begins with the technique, on the physical level, and afterward passes on to a mental/emotional level, in which we are capable of changing from one mental position to another at will. Then the next step is that of integration, to internalize things in order to enjoy and take advantage of the abilities of the transformation. This training and the skills that are derived from it, taken to everyday life, allow us a perfect adaptation for the most varied situations.

In this first DVD, GM Licesio Prieto, of the European Kajukenbo Kosho Ryu Kenpo Association, presents the essence of the Art of Kajukenbo, as it was transmitted to him by his Sifu SGM Cherry Ortega and many others. We will see the 1, 2 and 14 Palamas Sets and their applications from a more traditional point of view, from the perspective of the "Ka" (Karate and Kenpo), and then an application more suited to the Kajukenbo Kosho-Ryu school, working more the "Ju" aspects (Judo and JuJitsu) of the art. We will also study the first two Tricks or Punch Counters (cons against fist attacks), Grab arts (defenses against grabs), the GM Tony Ramos' cons, Knife counters (against knife attacks), Club counters (against stick attacks), various drills, and a sample of the work on the "Ju" aspects, emphasizing dislocations and controls. An excellent DVD that will help you assimilate the concepts and ideas of the Kajukenbo essential program, that GM Licesio Prieto will progressively develop in future works.

In this DVD, G.M. Larry Tatum (10th Dan) develops techniques of the Kenpo program at the highest level. Particularly, some of his “favorites” like Flashing Mace, Parting Wings, Entwined Lance… Masterfully executed and based on the experience of the movement, G.M. Tatum incorporates his innovative teachings in these techniques that will help you add and complement your training in the Kenpo system. Besides, they provide the individual with the best choice for selfdefense, based on the logical and practical thinking, and place him in the path of understanding the art of Kenpo. These are the self-defense and fighting systems of the modern times we live in. They are designed so that the practitioner gets all the benefits that training these techniques can provide. This DVD has the support of Master Adolfo Luelmo (9th Dan), who goes on with a series of techniques performed in a smooth and strong way, for situations of extreme aggression, in which can be appreciated different states of the movement, in a logical and effective way. As a conclusion, Master Camacho Assisi (8th Dan), displays a technique that combines the strength of the arms and his expertise with legs.

The art of Ilustrisimo is a truly refined sword art system. It is efficient, direct and functional. It is full of subtle movements, strategic positioning and superior timing. It can appear simple, but when attempted, becomes complex. But the true beauty dwell in it's effectiveness and functionality. The Kali Ilustrisimo Laban Laro drills were put together by members of Punong Guro Edgar Sulite and Master Christopher Ricketts Los Angeles and Las Vegas groups also known as Kapisanang Mandirigma. Laban Laro means to "play" or "simulate" fighting. This DVD goes over a number of techniques from the Art of Grandmaster Ilustrisimo and put into combative drills by Kapisanang Mandirigma. They were put together as an additional tool to help their own students refine, analyze and tighten their movements. Bust most of all, make them think and take them out of their comfort zone. The previous DVDs from Guro Dino Flores dealt with more range transition, intensity, impact, directness, instinct and its relationship to real time sparring. This DVD goes more into medium range - positioning, flow, analysis and timing. All are important to getting a deeper understanding of the art.

This video presents a very complete work of empty handed defense techniques against various types of grips and kicks; an interesting section on ground fighting, with the characteristic falls of the Systema biomechanics, and defenses in different positions on the ground against fist attacks, kicks and grabs; defense techniques with the whip, defense against threats and knife attacks, and the use of the knife in a defensive-offensive way as well as a sample of special energetic work.
