DUSTJACKET, A FINE COPY AND VERY SCARCE THUS. After conquering the South Pole, and being the first person to have reached both poles, Amundsen became very interested in the possibilities of exploring the poles by aircraft. This is the account of his second attempt, and the first attempt by anyone to succeed, of crossing the pole from Norway to Alaska. He was accompanied by American explorer Lincoln Ellsworth, who’s account of the flight makes up the final chapter. This flight was made in a single engine airplane. Amundsen would also cross the polar sea in an Italian made dirigible.
