This children’s book is called a chapbook, a more modern term that derives from the chapmen. Chapmen were pedlars who hawked their goods in towns and villages, and at country fairs. This chapbook contains a short explanation of astronomy and the solar system, as well as descriptions for each month of the weather, what is being planted and harvested and what various animals do during these month.

AN EARLY PRINTING OF CICERO’S GREAT SERIES OF TREATISES ON THE ART OF ORATION. Marcus Cicero, orator, lawyer, politician, and writer was one of the most renowned and influential men of the Roman World. A prolific writer and speaker, it is through him that much of the history of Rome is known. Cicero took oration very seriously, essentially concluding that the perfect orator must also be the perfect man. These three treatises are one of his chief rhetorical works, meant to form a continuous series containing a complete system of rhetorical training: the first deals with the studies necessary for an orator, the second with the treatment of the subject matter, and the third with the form and delivery of the speech.

He lived and worked at the Cape from 1705 till 1713.
