Thank you for an amazing year!
As we come towards the end of this year, we just want to take a moment to say a huge thank you to every single one of you.
This year has honestly been incredible. From the changes we’ve worked on across campuses, to the moments that brought everyone together, it’s all been made possible because of you. Your feedback, your energy, and your willingness to get involved have driven everything we’ve done.
There have been so many highlights along the way. Varsity was a huge moment, and seeing the BNU community come together with so much pride and passion was something special. On top of that, the effort put into fundraising for charities like RASS and others has been amazing, the impact you’ve made goes far beyond campus.
We’ve also seen more students speaking up, sharing their views, and helping shape what happens at BNU. That’s what Student Voice is all about, making sure this university works for you, and it’s been great to see so many of you getting involved.
As we get ready to welcome the new officer team, we know they’re going to carry things forward and do a great job. But we’re not done just yet, there’s still more to come before the year officially wraps up, so keep an eye on what’s happening!
Thank you for trusting us to represent you, it genuinely means a lot.
Take care, and good luck with everything ahead.
Your 2025-26 Officer Team

I hope everyone is enjoying the hot weather we are currently getting as well as staying safe in the heat too.
We are nearing the end of the Uni year, with only a few weeks left to go which means a lot of you have deadlines to meet and assignments to finish. This can be a stressful time so be sure to reach out for help and remember to take breaks when you can! Your lecturers, classmates, and the many places in Uni for student and academic support are great to reach out to for support and guidance with either your course work, exams, or even just life outside of Uni.
I always found that the most difficult part with end of term assignments was the balance, weather its balancing Uni work with extracurricular activities, Jobs, or even just home and social life, or its trying to balance work between different modules, it can be hard to keep track. Just try to pace yourself, make time for some relaxation if you can, and ask for help when needed.
Ethan Musgreaves Student Editor
Last month was The Union Awards, and I am incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to attend thanks to this newspaper! It was a fun night, and I had the opportunity to meet and talk to a lot of new people.
In this heat remember to stay cool, keep hydrated and wear heat protection. There are many places around the Uni to fill up water bottles as well as places like the Lounge and the Winter Garden that have cold drinks you can buy. To those who have to get public transport to uni, like myself, be sure to be mindful that the busses and trains can also get quite hot in this weather.
Overall enjoy the weather and the many upcoming events The Venue has to offer! The Rye Park and Hughenden Park are great places to enjoy the weather outside.

My Update so far
Renters Rights
Theo Richens (SVO) and I have created a student-friendly booklet to help you understand the recent changes to renting in England. The booklet clearly summarises what’s changed, explains your rights as a renter, and highlights where you can go for support if you need help. These booklets will be available across campus, including in halls, the SU Advice Centre, and SU offices, making it easy for you to access the information when you need it.

Uxbridge and High Wycombe Car Park
Just a quick update regarding car parking at both High Wycombe (HW) and Uxbridge (UXB) campuses. At UXB, additional parking spaces will be opening very soon, I believe between 20 to 25 spaces. The approach will be on a first come, first served basis, and the process is expected to begin from 1st June. If there are any changes to this or further developments, I will make sure to keep you all informed. There are also ongoing discussions with Hillingdon Council around securing additional parking spaces, and similar conversations are taking place regarding the High Wycombe campus. More updates will follow in due course.
Consumer Rights
I am currently attending a session on a new proposal from the Office for Students (OfS) focused on improving how universities treat students in England. The key proposal is a new rule called “Treating Students Fairly” (C6), which would require universities to treat students fairly at all stages, before, during, and after their studies. This means universities must provide clear and
accurate information, deliver what they promise, and support students with their rights and complaints. They must also avoid misleading students, making unfair changes, or using unfair terms. The aim is to improve transparency, accountability, and ensure students receive the experience they expect. The consultation is open until July 2026, with changes expected to follow.
Wi-Fi Update
Discussions and meetings are still ongoing regarding Wi-Fi, with further updates expected on the next steps. A consultation was carried out this semester, but only 29 students living in halls responded. However, through PCM feedback and general word of mouth, I am still hearing that connectivity and speed remain an issue for some students. If this is still affecting you, please email me at with details of your current situation. I would also strongly encourage you to contact Wifinity support services directly, as the number of issues being formally logged does not currently match the level of concerns being shared informally. Logging tickets is important to ensure problems are properly tracked and addressed.
The Union Awards 2026 provided a fantastic opportunity to reflect on and celebrate another memorable year across the Students’ Union, recognising the dedication, commitment, and achievements of students, societies, volunteers, and staff who have all played a part in shaping our community this year.
The evening brought together students and colleagues from across the university to celebrate the incredible work taking place both on campus and beyond. From sporting achievements and volunteering efforts to society successes and community impact, the awards highlighted just how much our students contribute to university life. A huge congratulations goes to every nominee and winner. Being recognised amongst so many talented and hardworking individuals is an achievement in itself, and everyone involved should be incredibly proud.

One of the best parts of the evening was seeing so many people come together to support one another and celebrate collective success. The sense of community throughout the night perfectly reflected what makes the Students’ Union so special; students and staff coming together to create opportunities, experiences, and memories that last well beyond university.
Although the academic year is beginning to wind down, there is still plenty to look forward to over the summer months. There will continue to be opportunities to get involved in activities, events, and campaigns, so make sure to keep an eye on the What’s On page and Students’ Union channels for everything coming up over the break.
For those students who are graduating or moving on from the University this year, we would like to wish you all the very best for the future. Whether you are heading into employment, further study, travel, or something entirely new, we hope you look back fondly on your time here and carry the friendships, experiences, and memories with you. You have all contributed something
valuable to our university community, and you should be proud of everything you have achieved.
As my own time in office also comes to an end, I want to take a moment to thank everyone who has supported us throughout the year. It has genuinely been an honour to represent students and work alongside so many passionate, dedicated, and inspiring people. This role has brought challenges, unforgettable moments, and opportunities that I will always be grateful for, and my time in office will forever hold a special place in my heart.
Finally, I would like to congratulate the newly elected officers as they prepare to begin their term. I am incredibly excited to see what they achieve in the year ahead, and I know they will continue to do amazing things for students and the wider university community.
The Students’ Union is in very good hands moving forward.
Thank you, and goodbye!
Wow, this year has gone so fast! We’ve done so much, and it’s thanks to you. I want to thank everyone who has helped me throughout this year. So many of you got involved in so many ways. I will always remember this year!
Windsor House Safe Space
I have been working with the Accommodation Team to improve the Windsor House Safe Space and raise awareness of it. If you don’t know, Windsor House reception is a Safe Space for BNU students. We are currently working to make the space nicer, and we will then promote it better. We hope that the upgrade will be useful for students.

For Mental Health Awareness Week, I worked with Bethany, Chans and Zey (Nottingham staff) and Ellie Lee (SVO) to provide lots of different activities. Keeping your body moving is essential for your mental health, so we highlighted the Sports For Fun sessions happening in High Wycombe for a fun, free way to get involved in sports. It was such a great week, and it was so lovely to see so many students get involved.
Mental Wellbeing Walks
I will be organising Mental Wellbeing Walks now that there is nicer weather. Anyone can get involved! Come with your clubs or societies, or come with your friends. All dates will be on the What’s On Page. Our first walk will be on Friday, 29 May, from noon, meeting in the SU Foyer. Make sure you get involved as much as you can and soak up every minute you have with your course mates and friends! Make sure you are wearing your SPF and keeping hydrated as we go into the warmer months. For those who are off for the summer, take some time for yourself.
Get ready to say hello to Julia, as she takes over as VPEW in July. Julia has so many incredible ideas, and I can’t wait to see them unfold!

We’re working looking into an end of year event at Aylesbury – tell us your ideas! We’ve offered a range of activities on the Uxbridge and Aylesbury campuses to get involved in (make sure you’ve looked on the what’s on page to get involved!).
I continue to address areas of feedback you have raised around accessibility, reasonable adjustment plans, technology and blackboard. Whilst many of these projects are in development, there is progress being made and if you continue to experience and issues, please do raise this with us.

ALL ABOUT UNIVERSITY COUNCIL
How does BNU decide its strategy? Who monitors that you receive a high-quality academic and student experience while you are with us? How does the University make sure that it uses its resources wisely? Who appoints the Vice-Chancellor?
All these are responsibilities of the University’s Council. Council is the University’s governing body and is responsible for the educational character and mission of our University. Set up in line with BNU’s governing documents, it also oversees BNU’s financial sustainability, approving the University’s annual budget and endof-year accounts.
Separate to your Union Council, the University’s Council is made up of a majority of Independent Members who are not BNU staff, but recruited externally for their expertise in areas like finance, law, higher education, auditing and cyber security. None of the Independent Members are paid for being members of Council; they volunteer their time and knowledge.
The SU President is a Council member alongside one registered student from BNU. The Vice-Chancellor and four members of academic and professional services staff (elected by staff at the University) are also members.
You can read about the current Council members at
Meeting six times a year and supported by seven standing committees who meet 3-4 times a year, University Council considers reports and makes strategic decisions on every aspect of BNU life. This ranges from academic quality and standards, NSS and other survey results, approving new educational partnerships and estates matters to who receives Honorary Doctorates from the University at Graduation (operational decisions are taken by the Vice-Chancellor and his executive team). Your student experience is at the centre of its decisionmaking. Council has a Student Experience Committee that, as you’d expect, focuses in depth on all aspects of student life, receiving reports from the Union and your Sabbatical team.
The Council is currently chaired by Maggie Galliers CBE, who you will hear giving a speech and shake hands with when you cross the stage at your graduation ceremony.
University Council wants to make sure it is visible to you, so this is planned to be the first of a number of updates from Council.

Green Ambassador Recap
This year, as your Green Ambassador, has been an unforgettable ride.
I’ve loved representing the university and sparking more conversations about the environment, sustainability, and even our wildlife.
Rusty’s Retreat kicked things off in the best way possible: great vibes, loads of volunteering, and a space that keeps growing (literally).
I still catch myself hanging out there in the sun, soaking it all in. ‘The Green Yap’ has been one of my favourite things to do, with another episode in the works.
Now that I’m wrapping up my third and final year, it’s nearly time to pass over the reins.
I know whoever steps in next will feel the same excitement I did. There are still a few weeks and a few plans left in me: I’m not gone just yet.
Thanks for letting me take on this role.
I’ll see you around!

Bucks Students’ Union
extremely proud to hold High Wycombe’s Pride celebrations at the BNU Campus on Saturday 13 June
“Inclusion is part of the DNA here at BNU” Damien Page, Vice-Chancellor, BNU
High Wycombe is set for a historic celebration this summer as Bucks Students’ Union hosts the town’s Pride event on the Buckinghamshire New University (BNU) Campus for the first time.
In a landmark move for the region, Bucks Students’ Union is excited that BNU has stepped up as the principal sponsor and home for the event due to be held on Saturday 13 June. The partnership is believed to be one of the first of its kind in the UK, where a major university campus serves as the primary hub for a town-wide Pride celebration.
The day, which is free for all to attend, kicks off at 11am with a unique and inclusive service, led by All Saints Church on the campus concourse, before BNU Vice-Chancellor, Damien Page, joins the Bucks Students’ Union team to officially open the festivities at noon.
Several hundred visitors are expected during the event, which runs from morning until the late-evening closing
party. Organisers promise a milestone event for High Wycombe’s social calendar.
Tristan Tipping, CEO of Bucks Students’
Union, said:
“We are so proud to be hosting the event and building on our work right across the year to support the University in offering the most inclusive and accessible experience we can. Having BNU as our principal sponsor and host allows us to create an incredibly visible and welcoming space for everyone in the town and the wider area, and the support from organisations like HWBIDCo and Focusrite has been invaluable.”
The campus will be transformed for the day, hosting more than 30 local businesses and organisations. Visitors can expect a festival-style atmosphere with a focus on family-friendly fun, featuring:
- live music, performers, DJs and a headphone disco
- stalls and showcases from local institutions, business and organisations
- pop-up stalls, arts and crafts, food and drink concessions and much more
- high-tech support: Further sponsorship and support comes from local audio experts Focusrite who are backing the event to ensure the soundtrack matches the festive spirit of the day, and the ever-supportive HWBIDCo.
The daytime event then leads into a huge party late into the night in Bucks Students’ Union’s award-winning venue, featuring drag cabaret, tribute acts, DJ’s and a few surprises. Please visit The Venue Bucks website for more details, including links to the social channels.
For BNU, hosting this event is more than just a sponsorship deal. It’s a statement of intent regarding the University’s inclusivity and role in the local community.
Vice-Chancellor, Damien Page, added: “Inclusion is part of the DNA here at BNU, so it feels only right that we open our campus to host High Wycombe Pride this year. We are a university that belongs to its community and partnering with the Students’ Union to celebrate our LGBTQ+ staff, students, and neighbours is something we are very happy to do. It’s going to be a great day of bringing people together, and I’m looking forward to welcoming everyone to our High Wycombe home.”
Want to join?
The event is free to attend and open to all. For the full line-up of guests and activities, visit The Venue Bucks website.

Strong finish to the season for Bucks Badminton
The season has finished for badminton, but it was an incredible year, and preparations are being made to continue the success into next year.
After a strong year for the club, both competitive teams finished the season on a high. The men’s team secured an impressive third-place finish, while the women’s team narrowly missed out on the top spot with a brilliant second place finish in their first competitive season.
Of course, the biggest moment of the year came at Varsity, where the club delivered a huge win against Roehampton to secure the first point of the day. With a packed crowd and plenty of noise from the sidelines, the victory capped off the year in the best possible way and gave the club a result that will definitely be remembered for a while. T
he committee for next year has now been confirmed, and preparations are already underway for another big year
for the club. Sport for fun sessions are still going strong and will continue right through until the end of the academic year, giving players of all abilities a chance to get involved without the pressure of competition. Whether people are looking to improve their game, stay active, or just meet new people, the sessions have remained one of the club’s most popular parts.
With strong results, a successful Varsity performance, and a fresh committee already getting to work, the society is in a great position heading into next year. The season may be finished, but for badminton, preparations for the next one have already begun.

Bucks New Usage
A year of community, creativity and circular living
As the academic year draws to a close, Bucks New Usage celebrates another successful chapter of reducing waste, supporting students, and giving pre loved items a second life. This year’s Usage Ambassadors, Finn and Rita, have played a central role in keeping the space vibrant, organised, and welcoming for everyone who walked through the doors.
Our work has strengthened the culture of reuse on campus and encouraged students to think differently about sustainability and community sharing.
Decluttering Advent Calendar:
In December, students took part in the Decluttering Advent Calendar, donating a wide range of items throughout the month. These contributions have now been sorted and prepared and will be put out in the Usage throughout May. Everything will be first come, first served, so students are encouraged to keep an eye out for new stock appearing regularly.
Call for Next Year’s Ambassadors:
With the ambassadors completing their ambassador roles this year, Bucks New Usage is now looking for new ambassadors for the upcoming academic year. Students who are passionate about sustainability, community engagement, or simply love the idea of helping others through reuse are encouraged to apply.
Donations Open for Next Year:
Donations for the next academic cycle are now open. Whether you’re moving out, decluttering, or simply passing on items you no longer need, your contributions help keep the Usage thriving and accessible for all.
