Note from the BBA The BBA is now 5 years old! I just wanted to thank all schools and students who have participated, as your support keeps the award running and makes the it such a success.

Every year we aim to improve and to grow. This year have updated the website and included a new section 'BBA Activities' for students. (see page 3)

BBA News BBA is 5 Years Old! The first Bucks Book Award was launched in 2018 although we had been discussing the awards for at least three years before this! The first thing we did was work out what we wanted to achieve and then everything else just fell into place.

Our aims were (and still are) to: Promote the best new books Encourage wider reading Give students a voice

Then the fun bit began in working out an identity for the awards and our website.

Below is the development of the BBA logo from the first design back in 2017 to the final design we used to launch the BBA in 2018. We were thrilled to welcome guest authors Patrice Lawrence and Teri Terry who announced the first ever BBA Longlist.

BBA Awards Ceremony We now have a confirmed date and venue for the BBA Awards Ceremony. This year it will be held at Aylesbury Grammar School on Wednesday 8th March 2023. All schools with students who participate in the awards by voting will be invited.

At the time of publication we do not have a confirmed guest author, but I will update you as soon as we have one booked.

In the event that I am unable to secure an author, I will make sure that we have some fun activities to complement the winner's announcement.

Have you read any good books that you want to share with other students? It could be a book from one of the shortlists or just a book you recently read and enjoyed.

If the answer is yes to either question, why not write a short book review and email it to me at librarynews@ags.bucks.sch.uk and you may find it published on the website or in the next edition of Bookcast!

BBA Activities KS3 500 Words Competition Calling all budding authors, do you have a story in you that is just waiting to be written? If so, then the BBA 500 words competition is for you! All you have to do is write an original story of no more than 500 words which starts with the prompt below.

To enter visit the BBA website bucksbookaward.org.uk and click the menu option for BBA Activities. This will link you to the page with the online entry form as well as the list of entry rules.

BBA Games

New for 2022/23 we now have a games section. At the moment there is a jigsaw section with puzzles of both the Shortlists as well as a crossword and a word search. The plan is to update and add Games throughout the BBA Awards process.

If any student wants to design a jigsaw, create a word search or a crossword, just email your picture (PNG or JPEG) word list or crossword clues (and answers!) to librarynews@ags,bucks.sch.uk and I will add them to the website!
