bucci photography As a person who always seems to notice small tiny details, I have always had a keen eye for fashion and fashion trends.

Be it in music videos, movies and series, dance videos, Pintrest, I always end up borrowing something fashion related and I try inculcating it in my mode of dressing.

And so deciding to pursue this month’s concept of fashion was nothing short of fun, seeing two designers work their magic to give life to some amazing designs was just satisfying. I hope you like what you see.

My favorite combo, just incase you are wondering, is the 3 piece suit, common with the Brits or Reddington on the series Blacklist.

Maybe throw in a brown/grey trench coat in there on a chilly day. The kind that goes all the way to the knees.

Conformity is the only real fashion crime.

Waruguru Q3. What have been some of your highlights?

A. During the the 16 months I’ve been in this fashion industry, I have acquired relevant skills and experience,worked tirelessly on my communication abilities and team work skills,which I’ll put into use in the future.

However, some clients are unwilling to pay even after designing what they had asked for.

We talked to Doris Waruguru, an up and coming designer and here is what she had to share.

Q1. Why fashion?

A. For me fashion is passion,its what i wear starting from accessories, shoes to outfits.

I feel fashion gives me a platform to express myself more.

Fashion gives me confidence, peace of mind and at heart and most of all joy when I receive positive feedback from happy clients.

Q2. What are some of the lessons you have learnt so far?

A. People have entirely different opinions about fashion in the sense that what appears appealing and outstanding for you may not be what they prefer. This then requires one to be patient and understanding with them to maintain a good customer - client relationship.

Q4. Where do you see yourself in the near future?

A. Currently I am working on my fashion line’s name,slogan and logo which should be done by June this year then start up my own enterprise later God willing.

I really looking foward to working with Brian Ogana, Shaliz collection, Calwear Klothing Kenya and KikoRomeo Q5. What is your parting shot?

A. To upcoming designers, be unique, that is going to be your major selling point. It will earn you quite a number of refferals.

The world is my stage and I have played my role deligently so far. I hope to display a noble and fierce experession of reign in the years to come.

Nyakeru

We meet Joan Nyakeru and she shared her fashion journey with me.

Q1. So Joan, why fashion?

A. It has always been my passion. I have always been keen to look at people and what they wear ever since I can remember. Looking at them would lead me to critic the designs and even alter them in my head.

I would style my mom and sister and even the dolls I had at home, trying to match the design prints.

Q2. What has been your highest high and your lowest low?

A. My highest high has to be this one time back in my second year of campus.

I had the privilege to style a very high

profile MC of a Valentine’s themed event that was such a huge deal around my school. I was able to play around with my creativity and what’s more, I got a shout out from him.

My lowest low has to be when dealing with difficult clients. I have often come up with designs and even tailored them only for the client to say that they are no longer interested in them.

Q3. What advice would you give an upcoming desiger?

A. Be proactive, creative and make sure to keep up with the latest fashion trends.

Make sure to learn the market around you and find a way to make it work for you.

If you are doing it commercially, don’t get too attached to your designs because you will end up feeling like you aren’t getting paid enough for what you create.

Q4. What brands would you like to work with?

A. Vivo Wear, the place in Grownish where Yara Shahidi goes to intern at, Anabelle Onyango, Aachera and Chris Njoki.

Find your happy colors, they are the ones that make you feel good inside

Dressed and ready to eliminate competition.

Make it simple but significant.

The joy of dressing is an art.

You can gain anything you want in life if you dress for it.
