MY FAVORITE CLASS AT BUA IS/WAS? My favorite classes are history and English because the things that we read are very interning and I enjoy the conversations we have in class even more!

THE BEST THING ABOUT BUA IS... How many different types of people there are. I find it really nice that you can meet and befriend so many different people at BUA despite it being a small school.

MY ADVICE TO ANYONE APPLYING TO BUA WOULD BE: Just act like yourself during applications! There’s not one type of person at BUA so it’s nice when you can show your true interests and personality. And don’t put too much pressure on yourself for the same reason, it’ll only stress you out unnecessarily!

FUN FACT ABOUT ME: I speak a language called Tigrinya!

MY FAVORITE CLASS AT BUA IS/WAS? 10th grade History. I loved Dr. Davis, his teaching style, and the information that was covered. He knew how to make even the most boring topics interesting, and his humor was unmatched.

THE BEST THING ABOUT BUA IS... The amazing community, from the faculty and staff to the students and alums. BUA is an amazing, inclusive, and caring place.

MY ADVICE TO ANYONE APPLYING TO BUA WOULD BE: Trust your gut! Make whatever decisions feel right to you. Also, make sure you do your essays early so you have more time to think. And don't stress it! You'll go to whatever school is the best for you.

FUN FACT ABOUT ME: I love to SCUBA dive. I have about 100 logged dives and I'm on my way to becoming a dive guide!

MY FAVORITE CLASS AT BUA IS/WAS? 10th Grade History with Dr. Davis. I had some of the best conversations in that class and overall the class really challenged the way I thought.

THE BEST THING ABOUT BUA IS... The tight knit community. Everybody knows everyone in the grade. I have so many friends from grades above and below which is really unique to BUA.

MY ADVICE TO ANYONE APPLYING TO BUA WOULD BE: Although you probably hear this a lot I would say be yourself. More specifically I would say show who you are as effectively as possible.

FUN FACT ABOUT ME: I have never broken a bone.

I also had tons of fun doing projects that included making a video or writing a research paper about things that we were interested in!

THE BEST THING ABOUT BUA IS... How awesome, supportive, and caring every single person at BUA is!

MY ADVICE TO ANYONE APPLYING TO BUA WOULD BE: Come to events and open houses so you know BUA is the right fit for you!

FUN FACT ABOUT ME: I can play the ocarina and the clarinet (Unfortunately not at the same time)

MY FAVORITE CLASS AT BUA IS/WAS? No doubt 10th grade history (The Development of Modern Europe) with Dr. Davis. If you enjoy discussing the political and structural injustices of America, moral and ethical debates, or 20th century takes on religious views of the past, you'll love this class. Or, if you're like me (somebody who had 0 interest in politics pre-BUA), this class will make you grow to love discussing such topics.

THE BEST THING ABOUT BUA IS... The E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. (EVER-growing interests and opportunities for You To Have at It aNd Go wild; apologies for this sub-par acronym). Some examples: 1) My childhood fantasies of adventuring have come to fruition through explorations of Boston with friends. We've found the best after-school boba places in Boston, walked and biked the Esplanade, and found some great study spaces. 2) Because of my classes at BUA, I am now very interested in chemistry, philosophy, and politics, 3 subjects that I previously thought to be boring and just... weird. 3) Being on the basketball and volleyball teams gave me an interest in my physical health, and so I'm now taking advantage of BU's FitRec facility.

MY ADVICE TO ANYONE APPLYING TO BUA WOULD BE: BUA is where personality matters. No matter how impressive your application looks in terms of accomplishments, I am confident that the admissions team knows what they're doing in terms of accepting a grade of genuine and kind people. :D

FUN FACT ABOUT ME: I am a music person!! To be clear, I'm not a musician (in fact I'm musicallydisinclined), but I do love listening to music. So if you're currently reading this in the Admissions Suite with a jumpy stomach - even though I assure you, BUA is not scary at all - here are some music recs to (hopefully) ease your mind! "Claire de Lune" by Kamasi Washington, "Homage" by Mild High Club, "Reality" by Richard Sanderson, & "I Think I Like When It Rains" by WILLIS.

MY FAVORITE CLASS AT BUA IS/WAS? BUA gave me the opportunity to take Biology 108 at BU, which is my favorite class. I adored learning about what is going on inside all my cells and how it helps my body function! I'm also interested in medicine, and Bio 108 helped me understand the molecular side of physiological processes, which I found super interesting.

THE BEST THING ABOUT BUA IS... The best thing about BUA is the community of students and faculty. There are so many different kinds of people here that I've loved getting to know, and many more that I'm excited to meet in the future!

MY ADVICE TO ANYONE APPLYING TO BUA WOULD BE: Don't change yourself to try to fit in; the admissions committee wants to know what you're really like. BUA is full of kind, genuine students, so as long as you show your true self and speak authentically about your interests and accomplishments in your application, you'll do great!

FUN FACT ABOUT ME: I'm a member of the ski patrol at Blue Hills. It combines my love for skiing and my passion for medicine, and is something fun to do during the winter when everything is cold and gray! I'm also working on becoming an instructor for the required ski patrol medical class, because I love to teach and explain concepts to people.

MY FAVORITE CLASS AT BUA IS/WAS? 10th grade history: This class challenged me with a new type of thinking and expression of thoughts. We read amazing texts that built on one another to provide the big picture and explained overarching themes. I analyzed the texts and shared my thoughts, while also hearing my peers ideas. I looked forward to entering this class every week for an interesting discussion!

THE BEST THING ABOUT BUA IS... The community! It is something that I heard from everyone when I applied but I never understood it until I was apart of it. I have many relationships and each is different and special to me. I met my closest friends at BUA and have grown close with so many teachers! Everyone is willing to make a connection and I feel like I am building and growing my relationships everyday!

MY ADVICE TO ANYONE APPLYING TO BUA WOULD BE: Take the leap! Applying to private schools can be stressful but you will know when a school is right for you:)

FUN FACT ABOUT ME: I am a competitive dancer outside of school!

MY FAVORITE CLASS AT BUA IS/WAS? My favorite class at BUA was my Calculus 1 class. I remember walking in wearing masks and entering wondering if I would have a nice sophomore math experience. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I was able to learn in the class. But most importantly, I was able to feel comfortable participating and talking to my teacher Mr. Dent. In addition, I was able to work closely with my friends on topics we were confused about which created a really close school environment.

THE BEST THING ABOUT BUA IS... The best thing about BUA is the community. The community at BUA is extremely supportive and close. The students are always willing to help each other, and many times I find myself talking or making friends with upperclassmen, BU students, and teachers. At school events you can really feel the community come together to cheer and to support the school.

MY ADVICE TO ANYONE APPLYING TO BUA WOULD BE: My advice to anyone applying to BUA would be to be yourself uniquely and to present yourself doing what you like. I think it's easy as an 8th grader to think that you need to be a specific person whom your parents, peers, teachers or even the web tells you to be. However, the school is looking to learn about you as who you really are and what you enjoy.

FUN FACT ABOUT ME: A fun fact about me is that I am an enthusiastic runner year round.

MY FAVORITE CLASS AT BUA IS/WAS? American Literature. English courses at BUA have always been my favorite because it is when you learn the most about fellow students. The way BUA students read, dissect, and enjoy texts fuels passionate class discussions, and the entire classroom becomes an equal share conversation.

THE BEST THING ABOUT BUA IS... The people! The teachers are dedicated to teaching, the students are dedicated to learning, and the entire community is dedicated to caring.

MY ADVICE TO ANYONE APPLYING TO BUA WOULD BE: Find your focus. Everyone will tell you to be yourself, and that is 100% true, but find something you do that says something about you. This thing can change over the years—this thing doesn't have to be concrete, but visualize yourself at BUA, and let that focus guide you.

THE BEST THING ABOUT BUA IS... Having such a strong support system in place is probably the best part of BUA. It allows you to experiment and mess up to learn how to study, write essays and balance work and life better.

MY ADVICE TO ANYONE APPLYING TO BUA WOULD BE: Do your own thing. There are thousands of people who are good writers or mathematicians: what differentiates you? Are you particularly good at text analysis? Visualization? How can you apply that to other things in your application and your life?

FUN FACT ABOUT ME: I love to cook and bake, and have maintained a levain (sourdough starter) for over a year.

MY FAVORITE CLASS AT BUA IS/WAS? Ms. Brown's 11th grade US History because so much of what we discussed, even things from hundreds of years ago, remains so relevant in modern politics. I felt like I gained a great foundation for where modern American society comes from through our discussions.

THE BEST THING ABOUT BUA IS... The ability to take any BU course, because it means that you can learn as far as you want to in so many directions, and gives freedom to explore many different areas of study.

MY ADVICE TO ANYONE APPLYING TO BUA WOULD BE: Be yourself. It is easy to tell when someone is being unauthentic, and the admissions department is trying to gauge if YOU are a good fit for BUA, not if someone else is.

THE BEST THING ABOUT BUA IS... The teachers. Not only do they all do a fabulous job of conveying the course material, but teachers show genuine interest in student’s lives outside of the classroom, making class never feel like a burden and always a place that students feel cared for.

MY ADVICE TO ANYONE APPLYING TO BUA WOULD BE: Stay true to yourself and don’t feel like you need to fit into any specific mold. The uniqueness of each student is what makes BUA such an amazing place.

MY FAVORITE CLASS AT BUA IS/WAS? My favorite class at BUA was American History with Mrs. Brown. Each day, I came in excited to learn about a new chapter in our history and Mrs. Brown artfully weaved modern issues and topics into ones that occurred decades or centuries ago. I loved reading primary sources from all sides, whether they were Native American or Chinese immigrants, and the class inspired a love of history.

THE BEST THING ABOUT BUA IS... The best thing about BUA is the people that I have met here. I never thought that I could find friends who I could connect to so fast and so deeply, but from day one, everyone has always been incredibly warm and welcoming. Whether discussing complex integrals, the nuances of a favorite science fiction novel, or simply complaining about a minute detail in our lives, the community formed at BUA is unparalleled.

MY ADVICE TO ANYONE APPLYING TO BUA WOULD BE: My advice to anyone applying to BUA would be to take it slow, but thoughtfully. Instead of rushing to complete the entire application in a couple days, make sure to plan out your essays and time out interviews and tours!

FUN FACT ABOUT ME: I like going on really long walks and simply admiring the nature and architecture around me. There is something strangely peaceful about analyzing a city based on how they choose to construct buildings and I love it.

MY FAVORITE CLASS AT BUA IS/WAS? My favorite class at BUA was Classical Themes in Literature, or freshmen English. I loved how the class was so discussion based and how we always ran overtime because everyone had more to say. We read what have now become some of my favorite books, including The Odyssey, Raisin in the Sun, and Great Expectations. Dr. Formichelli was an exceptional teacher, and I truly felt myself growing as a writer as the year went on.

THE BEST THING ABOUT BUA IS... Hands down the community. At BUA, I've found my best friends and made so many incredible memories that I'll always cherish. I love that at BUA, you can walk up to someone that you've never talked to before and strike up the most exciting conversations. MY FAVORITE CLASS AT BUA IS/WAS? One of my favorite classes at BUA has always been history! I love reading primary sources for homework and having meaningful discussions in class about not only what we read, but how it connects to other things we've spoken about before. It's super interesting to see what ideas my classmates can bring to the table and I often find that we go the entire class period discussing one reading and sharing new ideas, which is one of my favorite parts of the class!

THE BEST THING ABOUT BUA IS... The strong sense of community and genuine desire to see your peers succeed! Everyone is interested in so many different disciplines which is what makes it so cool to see one person grow and become interested in a subject over the course of a year or longer! Your classmates and friends all want the best for you and are always willing to help you understand something or work through a homework assignment because of how much they want you to succeed!

MY ADVICE TO ANYONE APPLYING TO BUA WOULD BE: Always be yourself and talk about what your passionate about! You can't go wrong talking about what you love so be truthful to yourself and what influences your identity. Especially in interviews and essays it's important to show what's important to you so don't be afraid to talk about a club your really like or a hobby that you really enjoy because that's something that makes you, you!

MY FAVORITE CLASS AT BUA IS/WAS? Probably Dr. Formichelli's 9th-grade Classical Themes in Literature course, because it was the first English class at BUA that deeply sparked my interest in literature. We read the Iliad and the Odyssey side-by-side while learning the components of a stellar paper through a pizza analogy (first the crust—introductory paragraph—then the sauce, olive oil, and other toppings—body paragraphs—then the oven!— conclusion). Aside from just being a fun class to be a part of overall, though, this class made me feel way more confident as a scholar, a writer, and reader and has definitely made a difference in how I think about things now (3 years later).

THE BEST THING ABOUT BUA IS... How I can be my nerdy, passionate self without fear of shame! I can talk about the significance of metrical variations in Shakespeare's blank verse, someone else can talk about different algorithms to help one solve various types of Rubik's cubes, and though we might not understand all the aspects and intricacies one another's interests, we end up respecting each other for those differences rather than feeling intimidated or antagonized by each other. On the other side of the coin, I sit down with some of my friends who have similar interests as me on a weekly basis, and we chat for HOURS!

MY ADVICE TO ANYONE APPLYING TO BUA WOULD BE: Sounds cheesy, but don't be afraid to be yourself! It's the self you'll find the most comfort in being (hopefully), so why not?

FUN FACT ABOUT ME: I love horror movies and well-written horror novels! And, I'm fascinated by the concept of the uncanny and how ordinary objects can become sinister. Though I'm not a robot (or am I?) and things can still creep me out, being a creative writer, I'm weirdly obsessed with how fear can be harnessed and evoked (especially with words which some argue are a much less terrifying medium than a movie, for example).
