A Message from PARD Director Dear Brownsville Residents, Reflecting on this past year, our Parks and Recreation Department is filled with pride as we celebrate the many ribbon cuttings that defined 2025. These moments were more than just ceremonial milestones; they are tangible proof of the hard work and genuine care our team pours into every acre of our city. We aren’t just opening new spaces; we are honoring a commitment to provide high-quality environments where our community can thrive and connect.

Each project tells a story of progress. From our new fitness stations and vibrant dog parks to our modern facilities and upgraded playgrounds, we are constantly evolving to meet your needs. These improvements are a testament to the dedication of our PARD team and their mission to enhance the quality of life for every family. Every ribbon cut represents a promise kept to the citizens of Brownsville.

While we have achieved in the last seasons, we are not finished yet. These milestones are the foundation for an even more ambitious future, and the public can expect many more great things in 2026. Our momentum is building, and our vision for a greener, more active city is clearer than ever. We are dedicated to ensuring that the growth you see today is only the beginning of what is possible for our parks system.

Unveiled: Brownsville’s New Wellness Frontier

The city has reached a new milestone in public wellness with the official introduction of three stateof-the-art NFC Outdoor Fitness Court® Studios at Cabler Park (550 Burnett Rd.), Oliveira Park (104 El Paso Rd.), and the Brownsville Events Center (1 Events Ctr.). By moving high-quality equipment out of the traditional gym and into our most beloved green spaces, the Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) has created a free,

accessible opportunity for every resident to prioritize their health.

These "wellness incubators" serve as vibrant hubs where health and community intersect, offering a modern alternative for those looking to stay active in a beautiful, natural environment.

BSP SKATE PARK This public skatepark features a variety of obstacles for all skill levels, including a challenging skate bowl, smooth concrete ramps, rails, ledges, and stairs. Skate at your own risk. Bring your own skateboard and safety gear.

OPEN GYM VOLLEYBALL Drop in to the gym and enjoy casual pick-up games with friends or meet new players. All skill levels welcome. Bring your own volleyball.

For just $45 per child each week, your child can participate in themed recreational activities! These activities include sports, arts and crafts, and chances to socialize with other children.

The program runs Monday through Friday, from 7:30 AM to 4 PM. Breakfast and lunch will be provided by Bright Nutrition.

Optional: Extended care is available from 4 to 6 PM for an additional $10.

Registration will begin April 1, 2026.

Designed for beginners and families with kids, the 4-hour session covers: Gear Basics: Intro to kayaks, paddles, and safety.

Skills: Entry/exit and essential strokes.

Practice: Use our variety of kayaks to test your skills after the lesson.

No experience needed • All gear provided.
