Dear Brownsville Residents,
This season, our Parks and Recreation Department is filled with excitement as we bring you new opportunities to celebrate, connect, and enjoy the incredible Brownsville community. We are not just maintaining parks and programs, we are creating fresh traditions, building new experiences, and showcasing the best of Brownsville. Our mission has always been to make Brownsville a vibrant place to live, and this fall and winter we are turning that vision into action in bold new ways.
One of the highlights we are proud to share is our very own pumpkin patch, grown right here by our teammates for the Fall Festival. This homegrown project is more than a seasonal attraction, it’s a symbol of how we are diversifying what we offer and investing in traditions that belong uniquely to Brownsville. And to celebrate the beauty of our natural resources, we are thrilled to host the first-ever Resaca Regatta, a community event on the water that will combine friendly competition, music, food, and family fun while spotlighting the resacas that make our city so special.
These new programs, along with our expanded events, wellness opportunities, and improvements across our parks, are driven by one goal: to bring joy, health, and connection to every corner of Brownsville. None of this would be possible without the support of our city's leadership, our community partners, and our incredible PARD Team. This season, I invite you to come out, discover something new, and celebrate the spirit of Brownsville with us. Together, we are building memories, traditions, and a stronger future for our city.
Brownsville Parks: Growing, Thriving, and Making Memories.

Imagine a place where the community gathers, a vibrant hub bustling with the aroma of fresh produce. A space where you can buy groceries, learn new recipes, and find support for your family—all in one place. This vision is becoming a reality in Brownsville with the creation of the Cannery Public Market (CPM).
The City of Brownsville, through its Parks & Recreation Department, is leading this collaborative effort. The CPM is a "bottom-up" initiative,
bringing together local groups and city departments to create a central hub for health and well-being. This ambitious project, made possible by a $2.3 million grant, is a significant step toward addressing food insecurity and promoting economic growth in the city.
The Cannery Public Market is a powerful partnership with the Brownsville Wellness Coalition. The CPM will become the new permanent home for the Brownsville Farmer's Market (BFM). The Coalition
will also have community gardens, the Fresco Mobile Market, and "La Cocina Alegre" (The Happy Kitchen), a program that teaches cooking skills. This ensures that residents have multiple ways to access and learn about healthy food.
To combat food insecurity, the Cannery will partner with the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley. This collaboration will provide food-insecure families with more than just groceries. The facility will offer a food pantry, school supplies, and connect residents with other social support programs.
The Cannery Public Market is also a launching pad for local talent. The facility will feature a full-scale commercial kitchen, a valuable resource
for small businesses and culinary innovators. This professional space gives aspiring food entrepreneurs the tools they need to grow their businesses.
This project was made possible by the generous support of funders:
The Cannery Public Market is more than just a building; it's a vibrant community asset that will serve as a beacon of health, wellness, and opportunity for all of Brownsville's residents. It’s a place where people can connect, learn, and grow together, building a stronger community for the future.
