Bacolod Tay Tung High School has officially commenced its most anticipated and thrilling event, the annual Loyalty Week celebration. September 25, 2023, the start of the 89th Loyalty Week celebration, marks the fun-filled week Taytungians have been looking forward to every year. One-week planned preparations, hosted by the MAPEH Department, Student Development Office, and Student Council Organization. Every group made preparations to show off and exhibit their innovative products to the general public for the entire day. Now for the exciting part: where many of the students were preparing for the first games in their designated places, the host called on each team to compete against each other. The players did the warm-ups and stretched their bodies, gearing up for an exhilarating fight, while other students stood aside, and gave their biggest cheers and support to the competitors. In every game there would always be winners and losers, as the matches commenced and all of the players did their best to defeat their formidable opponents as they caught the audience’s attention, watching how the plays would end.

As the program continued, it was announced that winners in their previous sports may proceed to the final round the following day, to determine the champion among the competitors. BEACON OF BAYANIHAN: TRANSCENDING HOPE AND LIGHT

FEATURE

BEAMING By: Trisha Beatrice Ordas

Pagbangon. A combination of scrambled letters that sequels to a Filipino word most of us have known since our childhood. A nine-letter word we’ve encountered, especially as Filipinos, specifically, as Negrenses and often goes together with bayanihan. In the archipelago of the Philippines, where the warmth of the sun is often accompanied by the unpredictable dance of typhoons, the spirit of bayanihan - communal unity and shared responsibility burns brightly. In the face of adversity, Filipinos have a long history of coming together, embodying the essence of bayanihan. The concept, deeply entwined in the culture, refers to the spirit of unity and collective action, especially in times of crisis. Typhoon Goring, with its destructive winds and relentless rains, became a stern test for this age-old tradition. As it lashed out of our city, leading to the suspension of classes and offices last August 30, 2023, many Negrenses were scared, and distressed for the unforeseen catastrophic calamity. It left devastation within the hearts of every Bacolodnon, but it was also where the seeds of hope of Taytungians were sown through a remarkable initiative known as "Proyektong Pagbangon". Proyektong Pagbangon is a response drive of Bacolod Tay Tung High School’s SERVIAM, in collaboration with the Student Council Organization, Community Involvement and External Linkages Office (CIELO) and the Rotaract Club of Granada along with unsparing and warmhearted volunteers. At the heart of Proyektong Pagbangon lies the concept that true resilience comes from within the community. Volunteers, hailing from various walks of life, converged to organize relief efforts that went beyond distributing food and necessities. Proyektong Pagbangon stands as a keepsake of the spirit of Bayanihan that runs through the hearts and minds of every Filipino. In the aftermath of Typhoon Goring, this communitydriven initiative not only provided immediate relief but also sowed the seeds of resilience, empowerment, and empathy. As the affected communities rebuild, Proyektong Pagbangon serves as a shining example of the strength that arises when Filipinos stand as pillars of hope, embodying the true essence of bayanihan in the face of adversity.

THE DAZZLING SPECTACLE OF GLOW GROVE GALA By: Arian Hope Sasi

The auditorium transformed into a kaleidoscope of neon lights and pulsating beats. The theme, Glow Grove Gala, set the stage for a night that promised to be carved into the memories of every student. The anticipation was high, and the atmosphere crackled with an electric energy that only a night of pop culture could bring.

And let loose they did. The dance floor was alive with students of all grades, their inhibitions discarded as they danced, grooved, and sang along with the music. The auditorium echoed with laughter, creating a harmonious blend of youthful excitement and pure fun.

The driving force behind this spectacle was none other than the Student Council Organization, whose dedication and creativity made every detail shine. From the entrance adorned with glow-in-the-dark decorations to the carefully curated playlist, it was evident that this was no ordinary school event.

As the night unfolded, it became evident that Spirit Night wasn't just an event—it was an experience. An experience that transcended the boundaries of routine, bringing together students in a celebration of life, music, and the shared spirit of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

As the clock struck five, the stage lit up with performances that showcased the immense talent within the student body. Grades 7 to 12 united in a celebration of dance, with hip-hop moves and elegant ballroom twirls taking center stage. The cheers from the audience were a testament to the hard work and passion each performer poured into their routines.

In the end, Spirit Night was more than just a school event, it was a mosaic of memories, canvas painted with strokes of happiness and unity. It was a night when the auditorium didn't just witness performances, it bore witness to the collective heartbeat of a school united n the quest for joy and fulfillment. A night of fun? That's an understatement. It was a night of unforgettable, exhilarating, and downright awesome fun!

The musical journey continued with live performances from bands, including the pride of Tay Tung, Armonia. The auditorium reverberated with the beats, and the students couldn't help but groove to the rhythm. The infectious enthusiasm spread like wildfire, and even the most stressed-out students found solace in the music, if only for a night. The beauty of Spirit Night was that it provided a temporary escape from the rigors of academic life. Despite looming deadlines and piles of schoolwork, students found themselves immersed in a sea of colors, laughter, and camaraderie. It was a reminder that sometimes, in the midst of chaos, there's a need to let loose and embrace the joy of the present moment.

In the dynamic realm of journalism, where the pursuit of excellence is both an aspiration and a constant, the campus journalists of Bacolod Tay Tung High School’s Taytungian Times, Clarion, and Panorama recently found themselves at the epicenter of a transformative odyssey. The beacon guiding their journey was the DSPC Joint Journalism Seminar-Workshop, a groundbreaking event held on November 10-11. This unprecedented gathering, bringing together Elementary, Junior High School, and Senior High School journalists, sought to transcend the boundaries of conventional journalism and elevate the craft to new heights. The theme, "Revitalizing Journalistic Skills of Students through Modern Journalism," set the stage for a two-day exploration into the intricacies of contemporary media. Guiding the eager minds of the participants were four distinguished resource speakers, each a luminary in their respective fields—News Writing, Editorial Writing, Editorial Cartooning, Feature Writing, ScienceTechnology Writing, Digital Photojournalism, Copy Reading, Headline Writing, and the Ethical Standards in Journalism. The event's kickoff was marked by an inspiring message from Dr. Leny Alojado Nillos, Division Chief Education Supervisor of Victorias City. Her words resonated, setting a tone of anticipation for the enriching experience that awaited the participants. Day one unfolded under the her guidance, where she discussed the Ethical Standards of Journalism. Then Mr. Ritzy_mar Solomon took charge of the News Writing segment, exposing the student journalist to the true world of news writing. They both challenged all participants to craft compelling stories about the seminar itself, whilst stimulating the same environment of the DSPC. The promise of the “most promising journalists” for the best articles in all aspects of journalism spurred a wave of enthusiasm among budding writers, infusing the room with an electrifying energy. The afternoon session unfolded with Mr. Ritzy-Mar, once again, unraveling and disseminating the complexities of Sports Writing. Explaining the different leads and unknot the learnability of sports writing. Mrs. Leny continued to spread her wisdom in the world of Editorial Writing, presenting all the possibilities of what is it and takes to be a editorial writer, the importance of their opinions and vastness of reach from their words. She assumed the role of guide through the terrain of Editorial Writing. Practical insights on crafting debatable titles and articulating clear stances were complemented by a workshop addressing the pressing issue.

As day two dawned, Mr. Raffy Medez, beyond theoretical discussions, practical exercises thrust participants into the heart of what it truly means to be in the heat of the moment, demanding the application of learned principles in real-time. The workshop revealed that timing was indeed the key to capturing the essence of moments. Despite their novice status in photojournalism, the participants' works received accolades, reinforcing the workshop's commitment to handson learning. As the workshop and Training continued on, Mrs. Pethy Decendario seamlessly guided participants through Feature Writing. Which set the stage for a deep dive into the nuances of creative storytelling. Mrs. Pethy’s emphasis on thinking beyond conventional boundaries left an indelible mark on participants, inspiring them to view journalism as an art form. Following the post-lunch interval, the spotlight shifted to Science and Technology and Editorial Cartooning, with both Mrs. Leny and Mrs. Pethy, unraveling the intricacies of both domains. A pre-workshop assignment, crafting a article on "cockroaches," which set all the journalist on a roller coaster ride to break out of their comfort zones to research on scientific studies and illustrating cockroaches. Thinking beyond conventional boundaries left an indelible mark on participants, inspiring them to view journalism as a way to find new paths in their journey as journalists. The grand finale belonged to Mr. Ritzy-Mar, where he upskilled the aspiring school journalists correct not only their works, but their peers as well with the comprehension of copy reading. He provided them with the grasp and proficiency to create headlines worth of praise and attention. Headlines, that peak the interest of readers, and dazzle their imagination. The seminar concluded with certificates awarded to the resource speakers, a tangible expression of gratitude for their invaluable contributions. The participants, now armed with a treasure trove of knowledge, extended their heartfelt appreciation to the school administration and their publication advisers for endorsing this pivotal event. The collaborative spirit of everyone involved underscored the significance of such endeavors in nurturing the next generation of journalists. As the curtain fell on the BTTHS DSPC Joint Journalism SeminarWorkshop, the participants departed not just with certificates but with a profound sense of empowerment. Their commitment to perpetuating the acquired knowledge became a pledge to ensure that the torch of journalism burns brightly, illuminating the path for generations of storytellers yet to come. The workshop was not just an event; it was a catalyst for a new era in journalistic pursuit—a flame ignited, destined to blaze through the annals of time.

TALKING TO ROBO-STUDENTS: HOW ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE LEARNS WITH STUDENT INTERACTION BY: BLESS PEDROZA The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the past decade is nothing short of an achievement for humankind. From aspects like housing, employment, transport, education, health, accessibility, justice, and others, AI systems have proven their value and usefulness in our society. But as powerful as these tools are, the responsibility of their creators and users is one students must bear. From the time the idea of artificial beings with human-like intelligence began in ancient mythology and folklore to the more notable emergence of the idea of intelligent machines in the early 20th century, the rise of the science fiction genre inspired multiple works like Mary Shelley's “Frankenstein” and Karel Čapek’s "R.U.R." that feature artificial beings created through biological engineering, highlighting a rather important consequence of creating intelligent beings. Later on, additional authors like Fritz Lang, Isaac Asimov, and others, explored the relationship between humans and machines. Moving on from fictional works, the real test began when British computer scientist Alan Turing introduced “the Turing Test” in his paper “Computing Machinery and Intelligence” in 1950. The test served as a way to test digital computers for their ability to exhibit intelligent behavior similar to that of a human. Though the test has been deemed controversial, it was a major milestone in the field of AI, even providing the basis of its definition and prompting researchers and scientists to continue evaluating the capabilities of digital computers and comparing them to human intelligence. Continuing into the 21st century, computer scientists and engineers have developed Neural Probabilistic Language Models, deep learning algorithms (image recognition algorithms), motionsensing input devices, and generative variational autoencoders (images, videos and text), building upon the groundwork laid by their predecessors in the 20th century. All of these works are part of what we now know to be AI. Soon, programs like chatbots and image generators will become a staple in the pockets of students all over the world. Diving deeper into the subsets of AI, one particular concept we must understand is its machine learning (ML) ability. Machine learning is about the development and use of computer systems that learn and adapt without following explicit instructions, using algorithms and statistical models to analyze and yield predictive outcomes from patterns in data. Along with this is its ability to perform reinforcement learning (RL), which enables

AI-based systems to take actions in a dynamic environment through trial and error methods. For AI tools, machine learning is like instructing a student to study the lesson instead of teaching it to them, while reinforcement learning would then be to give the student a good grade If they get a correct answer. With the help of expert systems (for decision making), cognitive computing (to simulate human thought), and NLP (Natural Language Processing, enables interaction between computers and human language), all these algorithms work together to perform the task of assisting students in their schoolworks. Although it is evident that students gain advantages from these programs, criticisms have intensified with the widespread use of AI tools. This notion may be rooted in the perception that the newer generations, specifically Generation Z (born 1995 to 2009) and Generation Alpha (born 2010 to the present year), are becoming more dependent on AI tools with its growing presence. A recent study from India even proves a significant correlation between the use of AI-Powered Virtual Assistants and Human Productivity and Laziness among students, all the more reason to believe it to be true. Although AI appears to ironically hinder students from learning due to its ability to do work for them, it’s important to understand its actual effects. While AI tools can perform specialized tasks like computing and processing large amounts of data, it can only do so to a certain degree. Bias in algorithms and misinformation can still exist due to the inherited biases present in the data used to train them by their programmers and creators. In addition to this, it still has cases concerning ethical considerations, privacy concerns, and equity issues. Not only that but AI is still a long way from fully imitating human intelligence. At the end of the day, AI has already made its way into the lives of people, not just students, clearly showing how useful it can be, to a certain extent. It can never truly replace human intelligence, but we can no longer deny its implications in our lives, especially when it comes to learning.

UNVEILING THE 2024 NATIONAL BUDGET: CHARTING A COURSE FOR PROGRESS BY: VERONICA YSABELLE CUSI As the fiscal year approaches, the spotlight shines on the cornerstone of the nation's financial planning: the 2024 National Budget. This comprehensive blueprint, embodying the government's priorities, allocations, and aspirations, beckons us to decipher its impact on our collective future. With the House of Representatives giving its resounding assent, the P5.768-trillion national budget for 2024 stands as a testament to meticulous deliberations and a commitment to fortify the pillars of our nation. Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez heralded the timely approval, echoing not only the House's constitutional mandate but also their pledge to usher in an era of transparency and accountability in service to the Filipino people. A strategic allocation of these funds earmarks considerable support for the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) and the National Security Council (NSC), pivotal entities entrusted with intelligence operations and national security coordination. This signifies a concerted effort to bolster our nation's defenses and vigilance in a dynamic geopolitical landscape. Furthermore, heightened budgets for the Philippine Coast Guard and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources will bolster surveillance capacities in the West Philippine Sea, reinforcing our sovereignty and environmental stewardship. Speaker Romualdez's assertion regarding the budget's impact on the populace resonates profoundly: "Sa pagpasa natin ang 2024 [GAB], naging gabay ang mithiin natin na mabigyan ng ginhawa ang buhay ng ating mamamayan." The Speaker's words underscore a collective aspiration for improved livelihoods and a nation on the ascent towards a brighter future. Aligned with the administration's strategic framework and socioeconomic agenda, the proposed budget amplifies investments across crucial sectors. At 21.7% of the GDP,

this financial blueprint reflects an ambitious stride, escalating by 9.5% from the preceding year. Education claims the lion's share with an allocation of P924.7 billion, reinforcing the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education program, textbook provisions, and essential feeding programs. Concurrently, infrastructure projects like the North-South Commuter Railway System and Metro Manila Subway Project Phase 1 symbolize a commitment to modernization and connectivity. Agriculture, health, and social welfare witness substantial boosts, amplifying efforts in food production, healthcare provisions, and social assistance programs. Meanwhile, the defense sector, an integral custodian of our national security, sees a noteworthy increase in funding. The 2024 National Budget stands as a testament to the government's vision for a stronger, more resilient Philippines. Its trajectory bears the weight of aspirations, the promise of growth, and the responsibility to address the nation's pressing needs. As we navigate the intricacies of this fiscal roadmap, let us remain vigilant, engaged, and proactive in advocating for transparency, accountability, and equitable distribution of resources. For it is through collective vigilance and active participation that we steer towards a future where every peso allocated translates into tangible progress for all. In this juncture, the budget isn't merely a numerical document; it embodies our shared destiny, beckoning us to sculpt a thriving nation through prudent oversight, unwavering dedication, and a commitment to inclusive growth.

As we pay tribute to the Taytungian athletes, let us celebrate not only their victories but also the principles they embodied. Perseverance, dedication, sportsmanship, and the unyielding spirit to overcome challenges. The echoes of their achievements will undoubtedly resonate through the halls of Bacolod Tay Tung High School, inspiring generations to come.

Not only did the athletes gather to celebrate, the Tay Tung Thunderbolts also shared their adventures during the Palarong Pambansa experience. It indeed encouraged the different teams to learn about their strengths and weaknesses as a team, create new memories, and ultimately, strengthen their bond as a team.

In honoring these athletes, we recognize the profound impact they've had on the school's athletic legacy, leaving an enduring footprint that will continue to inspire Taytungian athletes for years to come. The event Pagpupugay served as a poignant reminder that beyond the competitive arena, a community of individuals dedicated to their craft could come together to celebrate their shared journey and give thanks for the victories, both big and small, that define the spirit of sport.

After all the hard work and effort amidst balancing school work, the athletes successfully accomplished their goals and aspirations.

ON THE COURT, WHERE VIRTUES MUST REMAIN By: Paige Paypon and Julianna Jacildo

Student-athletes spend dusk until dawn training to get their hands on a trophy, and it's even harder balancing it with their academic life. They dedicate themselves to bringing home pride and dignity to the institution. As they compete all around the map, they represent the school, waving the blazing navy flag of the Taytungians and carrying with them the four core values that the school upholds. To instill the spirit of propriety, justice, integrity, and conscientiousness within them, the Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS) Guidance Office, hand-in-hand with the Student Affairs, created a face-to-face talk entitled “Beyond Sports 2023: Formation Talk” to prepare the young thunderbolts for the upcoming Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural Education Association (NOPSSCEA) 2023. One of the members of Student Affairs, Sir Jonel C. Estacio, delivered the talk to remind students to have the proper values of a true Taytungian outside and inside the school. In this, he discussed the athletes' proper etiquette in competing, connecting with teammates, and instilling Taytungian behavior. Camila Bartolome, outside hitter and middle blocker of Thunderbolts Volleybelles, was asked what she learned from the talk and said “In order to connect we have to disconnect. We need to have teamwork, good chemistry, and communication to win our games. We also learned to be humble in all ways and properly behave because we are representing Bacolod Tay Tung High School.” There were seventy (70) student-athletes who participated during the event and there will be one hundred five (105) players competing during NOPSSCEA. As they gear up towards greater endeavors and success, the BTTHS Guidance Office hopes the student-athletes will bury the Taytungian values in their heart and perpetuate great harmony even on the court.
