Namoh Buddhaya. Honorable Masters and devotees, good day. During the past year of 2019, our temple has been adhering to the Buddha's four boundless minds of "Compassion, Sympathy, Joy and Giving". We carried out every work earnestly, and at the same time, received the enthusiastic support from the devotees, with their financial donations and helping hands. We successfully completed various Dharma promotion works and corporate social responsibility tasks in our temple. On behalf of the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple’s Management Committee and staff, I would like to express our extremely gratitude to all devotees. I wish everyone a long life, good luck, everything goes well, family harmony and happy life. In the "The Platform Sutra of the Sixth Patriarch", there is a verse that Master Huinen said: "The Dharma is in the World, and you will not leave it. Departing it to find Bodhi is just like asking for a rabbit’s horn.” It literally means: Buddhism is in the World, inseparable from the World, can you only get the Enlightenment of the Dharma; if you leave the World to find the Triyana Bodhi of the Dharma, this consciousness is like trying to find a rabbit with horns on its head. It is futile. Bodhi in Sanskrit is the "Enlightenment" in Chinese because it has realised the authenticity of the Dharmas. Buddhist disciples should bear responsibility for Buddhism, society, and all living beings. Why? Because we are Buddha’s disciples, we should learn the words and deeds of the Buddha and the ways of Bodhisattva. The survival of Buddhism is the responsibility of the Buddha’s disciples. “Be the first to worry about the troubles across the land, the last to enjoy universal happiness." The responsibility of the Buddha's disciples is altruistic behavior and is the responsibility of the brave. "The Discourse on the Ten Wholesome Ways of Action" says: Because of the solemn Precepts, it can produce all the Buddha's righteousness and benefit, and fulfill great aspirations. Whether the society we live in is harmonious or not, depends on whether the lay person of this world can be organized, it depends and on the responsibility of the person. Therefore, as a Buddhist disciple, you must not only be responsible to yourself, but also to your family, the society, the country, and even the whole world and all mankind. As a monk, in addition to the responsibilities of being a man, it is also necessary to shoulder the responsibilities of the monks. Looking towards the future, we become more confident. I think that Buddhist propagation can be equated with the benefits of social enterprises, as they can be regarded as a way of Buddhism's mission and propagation in contemporary society. Thank you once again, for your care and support. I wish all the Masters and devotees: Auspicious at all times.

Independent Auditor’s Report to the Members of Buddha Tooth Relic Temple (Singapore) Report on the Audit of the Financial Statements Opinion We have audited the financial statements of Buddha Tooth Relic Temple (Singapore) (the Temple), which comprise the statement of financial position of the Temple as at 31 December 2019, and the statement of financial activities, statement of changes in funds and statement of cash flows of the Temple for the financial year then ended, and notes to the financial statements, including a summary of significant accounting policies. In our opinion, the accompanying financial statements are properly drawn up in accordance with the provisions of the Societies Act, Cap 311 (the Societies Act), the Charities Act, Cap 37 (the Charities Act) and Charities Accounting Standards (CASs) so as to present fairly, in all material respects, the state of affairs of the Temple as at 31 December 2019 and of the results, changes in funds and cash flows of the Temple for the financial year ended on that date. Basis for Opinion We conducted our audit in accordance with Singapore Standards on Auditing (SSAs). Our responsibilities under those standards are further described in the Auditor’s Responsibilities for the Audit of the Financial Statements section of our report. We are independent of the Temple in accordance with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics for Public Accountants and Accounting Entities (ACRA Code) together with the ethical requirements that are relevant to our audit of the financial statements in Singapore, and we have fulfilled our other ethical responsibilities in accordance with these requirements and the ACRA Code. We believe that the audit evidence we have obtained is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for our opinion. Other Information The Management Committee is responsible for the other information. The other information comprises the information included in the Statement by the Management Committee set out on page 1. Our opinion on the financial statements does not cover the other information and we do not express any form of assurance conclusion thereon. In connection with our audit of the financial statements, our responsibility is to read the other information and, in doing so, consider whether the other information is materially inconsistent with the financial statements or our knowledge obtained in the audit, or otherwise appears to be materially misstated. If, based on the work we have performed, we conclude that there is a material misstatement of this other information, we are required to report that fact. We have nothing to report in this regard.

Independent Auditor’s Report to the Members of Buddha Tooth Relic Temple (Singapore) Management Committee’s Responsibility for the Financial Statements The Management Committee is responsible for the preparation of financial statements that give a true and fair view in accordance with the provisions of the Societies Act and the Charities Act and CASs, and for devising and maintaining a system of internal accounting controls sufficient to provide a reasonable assurance that assets are safeguarded against loss from unauthorised use or disposition; and transactions are properly authorised and that they are recorded as necessary to permit the preparation of true and fair financial statements and to maintain accountability of assets. In preparing the financial statements, the Management Committee is responsible for assessing the Temple’s ability to continue as a going concern, disclosing, as applicable, matters related to going concern and using the going concern basis of accounting unless management either intends to liquidate the Temple or to cease operations, or has no realistic alternative but to do so. The Management Committee’s responsibilities include overseeing the Temple’s financial reporting process. Auditor’s Responsibilities for the Audit of the Financial Statements Our objectives are to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial statements as a whole are free from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error, and to issue an auditor’s report that includes our opinion. Reasonable assurance is a high level assurance, but is not a guarantee that an audit conducted in accordance with SSAs will always detect a material misstatement when it exists. Misstatements can arise from fraud or error and are considered material if, individually or in the aggregate, they could reasonably be expected to influence the economic decisions of users taken on the basis of these financial statements. As part of an audit in accordance with SSAs, we exercise professional judgement and maintain professional scepticism throughout the audit. We also:
24
•
Identify and assess the risks of material misstatement of the financial statements, whether due to fraud or error, design and perform audit procedures responsive to those risks, and obtain audit evidence that is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for our opinion. The risk of not detecting a material misstatement resulting from fraud is higher than for one resulting from error, as fraud may involve collusion, forgery, intentional omissions, misrepresentations, or the override of internal control.
•
Obtain an understanding of internal control relevant to the audit in order to design audit procedures that are appropriate in the circumstances, but not for the purpose of expressing an opinion on the effectiveness of the Temple’s internal control.
•
Evaluate the appropriateness of accounting policies used and the reasonableness of accounting estimates and related disclosures made by the Management Committee.
-4-
Independent Auditor’s Report to the Members of Buddha Tooth Relic Temple (Singapore) •
Conclude on the appropriateness of the Management Committee’s use of the going concern basis of accounting and, based on the audit evidence obtained, whether a material uncertainty exists related to events or conditions that may cast significant doubt on the Temple’s ability to continue as a going concern. If we conclude that a material uncertainty exists, we are required to draw attention in our auditor’s report to the related disclosures in the financial statements or, if such disclosures are inadequate, to modify our opinion. Our conclusions are based on the audit evidence obtained up to the date of our auditor’s report. However, future events or conditions may cause the Temple to cease to continue as a going concern.
•
Evaluate the overall presentation, structure and content of the financial statements, including the disclosures, and whether the financial statements represent the underlying transactions and events in a manner that achieves fair presentation.
We communicate with those charged with governance regarding, among other matters, the planned scope and timing of the audit and significant audit findings, including any significant deficiencies in internal control that we identify during our audit. Report on Other Legal and Regulatory Requirements In our opinion, the accounting and other records required to be kept by the Temple have been properly kept in accordance with the Regulations enacted under the Societies Act and the Charities Act.

Buddha Tooth Relic Temple (Singapore) Notes to the financial statements 31 December 2019 These notes form part of and should be read in conjunction with the accompanying financial statements. 1.
General information Buddha Tooth Relic Temple (Singapore) (the “Temple”) was registered as a Temple Association under the Societies Act, Chapter 311 on 20 February 2003 and as a Charity Organisation under the Charities Act (Chapter 37) on 8 January 2004 with its registered office and principal place of business located at 288 South Bridge Road, Singapore 058840. The financial statements of the Temple for the financial year ended 31 December 2019 were authorised for issue by the Management Committee on

Summary of significant accounting policies 2.1
Basis of preparation The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Charities Accounting Standards (“CASs”) issued by the Singapore Accounting Standard Council. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention, except as otherwise disclosed in the accounting policies below. The financial statements are presented in Singapore dollar (“$”), which is the functional currency of the Temple. The accounting policies adopted are consistent with those of the previous period except that in the current financial year, the Temple has adopted all the new and revised CASs and Interpretations of the Charities Accounting Standards (“INT CASs”) that are relevant to its operations and effective for annual period beginning on 1 January 2019. The adoption of these new/revised the CASs and INT CASs does not have any effect on the financial performance or position of the Temple for the current or prior financial years.

Summary of significant accounting policies (continued) 2.2
Financial instruments Financial assets and financial liabilities are recognised on the Temple’s statement of financial position when the Temple becomes a party to the contractual provisions of the instrument. Effective interest method The effective interest method is a method of calculating the amortised cost of a financial instrument and of allocating interest income or expense over the relevant period. The effective interest rate is the rate that exactly discounts estimated future cash receipts or payments through the expected life of the financial instrument, or where appropriate, a shorter period to the net carrying amount of the financial asset or financial liability. Financial assets Financial assets are classified into the following specified categories: financial assets “heldto-maturity investments” and “loans and receivables”. The classification depends on the nature and purpose of financial assets and is determined at the time of initial recognition. Held-to-maturity investments Bonds with fixed or determinable payments and fixed maturity dates where the Temple has positive intent and ability to hold to maturity are classified as held-to-maturity investments. Subsequent to initial measurement, held-to-maturity investments are measured at amortised cost using the effective interest method less impairment, whereby the revenue is recognised on an effective yield basis. Loans and receivables Non-derivative financial assets with fixed or determinable payments that are not quoted in an active market are classified as loans and receivables. Loans and receivables are initially measured at fair value and are subsequently measured at amortised cost using the effective interest method less impairment. Interest is recognised by applying the effective interest method, except for short-term receivables where the recognition of interest would be immaterial. Loans and receivables are presented as “cash and cash equivalents”, “fixed deposits” and “other receivables” on the statement of financial position. Impairment of financial assets The Temple assesses at the end of each reporting period whether there is any objective evidence that a financial asset is impaired.
31
- 11 Buddha Tooth Relic Temple (Singapore) Notes to the financial statements 31 December 2019 2.
Summary of significant accounting policies (continued) 2.2
Financial instruments (continued) Impairment of financial assets (continued) Assets carried at amortised cost For financial assets carried at amortised cost, the Temple first assesses individually whether objective evidence of impairment exists individually for financial assets that are individually significant, or collectively for financial assets that are not individually significant. If the Temple determines that no objective evidence of impairment exists for an individually assessed financial asset, whether significant or not, it includes the asset in a group of financial assets with similar credit risk characteristics and collectively assesses them for impairment. Assets that are individually assessed for impairment and for which an impairment loss is, or continues to be recognised are not included in a collective assessment of impairment. If there is objective evidence that an impairment loss on financial assets carried at amortised cost has been incurred, the amount of the loss is measured as the difference between the asset’s carrying amount and the present value of estimated future cash flows discounted at the financial asset’s original effective interest rate. If a loan has a variable interest rate, the discount rate for measuring any impairment loss is the current effective interest rate. The carrying amount of the asset shall be reduced either directly or through the use of an allowance account. The impairment loss is recognised in statement of financial activities. When the asset becomes uncollectible, the carrying amount of impaired financial assets is reduced directly or if an amount was charged to the allowance account, the amounts charged to the allowance account are written off against the carrying value of the financial asset. To determine whether there is objective evidence that an impairment loss on financial assets has been incurred, the Temple considers factors such as the probability of insolvency or significant financial difficulties of its members and default or significant delay in payments. If, in a subsequent period, the amount of the impairment loss decreases and the decrease can be related objectively to an event occurring after the impairment loss was recognised, the previously recognised impairment loss is reversed through statement of financial activities to the extent the carrying amount of the asset at the date the impairment is reversed does not exceed what the amortised cost would have been had the impairment not been recognised.
32
- 12 -
Buddha Tooth Relic Temple (Singapore) Notes to the financial statements 31 December 2019 2.
Summary of significant accounting policies (continued) 2.2
Financial instruments (continued) Derecognition of financial assets The Temple derecognises a financial asset only when the contractual rights to the cash flows from the asset expire, or it transfers the financial asset and substantially all the risks and rewards of ownership of the asset to another entity. If the Temple neither transfers nor retains substantially all the risks and rewards of ownership and continues to control the transferred asset, the Temple recognises its retained interest in the asset and an associated liability for amounts it may have to pay. If the Temple retains substantially all the risks and rewards of ownership of a transferred financial asset, the Temple continues to recognise the financial asset and also recognises a collateralised borrowing for the proceeds received. Financial liabilities Financial liabilities are classified as either financial liabilities “at fair value through profit or loss or other financial liabilities. Other financial liabilities Trade and other payables are initially measured at fair value, net of transaction costs, and are subsequently measured at amortised cost, using the effective interest method, with interest expense recognised on an effective yield basis. Derecognition of financial liabilities The Temple derecognises financial liabilities when, and only when, the Temple’s obligations are discharged, cancelled or they expire.
2.3
Property, plant and equipment All items of property, plant and equipment are initially recorded at cost. Subsequent to recognition, property, plant and equipment are measured at cost less accumulated depreciation and any accumulated impairment losses. The cost of property, plant and equipment includes its purchase price and any costs directly attributable to bringing the asset to the location and condition necessary for it to be capable of operating in the manner intended by management. Dismantlement, removal or restoration costs are included as part of the cost of property, plant and equipment if the obligation for dismantlement, removal or restoration is incurred as a consequence of acquiring or using the property, plant and equipment.
33
- 13 Buddha Tooth Relic Temple (Singapore) Notes to the financial statements 31 December 2019 2.
Summary of significant accounting policies (continued) 2.3
Property, plant and equipment (continued) Depreciation of property, plant and equipment is calculated using the straight-line method to allocate depreciable amounts over their estimated useful lives. The estimated useful lives are as follows: Useful lives Adoption items Air conditioner Antique Buddha statue and accessories Buddha stupa Building Warehouse Computers Equipment Furniture and fittings Land Motor vehicles Office equipment Renovation Wax statue
27.5 years 5 years Infinite life 5 years Infinite life 27.5 years 20 years 3 years 5 years 5 years 27.5 years 5 years 5 years 5 years 3 years
Fully depreciated property, plant and equipment are retained in the financial statements. The residual value, useful lives and depreciation method are reviewed at the end of each reporting period, and adjusted prospectively, if appropriate. An item of property, plant and equipment is derecognised upon disposal or when no future economic benefits are expected from its use or disposal. Any gain or loss on derecognition of the asset is included in profit or loss in the year the asset is derecognised. 2.4
Inventories Inventories are stated at the lower of cost and net realisable value. Cost is determined primarily on a weighted average method and includes cost of purchase and other costs incurred in bringing the inventories to their present location and condition. Where necessary, write-down is made for deteriorated, damaged, obsolete and slow-moving inventories to adjust the carrying value of inventories to the lower of cost and net realisable value. Net realisable value is the estimated selling price in the ordinary course of business, less estimated costs of completion and estimated costs necessary to make the sale.

Summary of significant accounting policies (continued) 2.5
Income recognition Income is recognised in the statement of financial activities when the following three factors are met:
The Temple becomes entitled to the income; The Temple is virtually certain that it will receive the income; and The amount of the income can be measured with sufficient reliability
Donations Donations are recognised on receipt basis. Donations-in-kind are recognised when the fair value of the donations-in-kind can be estimated with sufficient reliability. Charitable incomes Charitable incomes are generated from charity events and ceremonies. They are recognised on both receipt basis and accrued as and when they are committed. Sale of goods Income from the sale of goods is recognised when the Temple has delivered the products to the customer; the customer has accepted the products and the collectability of the related receivables are reasonably assured. Income from services Income from services is recognised over the period in which the services are rendered, by reference to completion of the specific transaction assessed on the basis of the actual service provided as a proportion of the total services to be performed. Interest income Interest income on banks’ current accounts, fixed deposits and held-to-maturity investments placed with financial institutions are recognised on a time-proportion basis using the effective interest method.

Summary of significant accounting policies (continued) 2.6
Employee benefits Employee entitlements to annual leave are recognised as a liability when they accrue to employees. The estimated liability for annual leave is recognised for services rendered by employees up to the end of the reporting period. Contributions to defined contribution plans are recognised in the same financial year as the employment that gives rise to the contributions.
2.7
Provisions Provisions are recognised when the Temple has a present obligation (legal or constructive) as a result of a past event, it is probable that the Temple will be required to settle the obligation, and a reliable estimate can be made of the amount of the obligation. The amount recognised as a provision is the best estimate of the consideration required to settle the present obligation at the end of the reporting period, taking into account the risks and uncertainties surrounding the obligation. Where a provision is measured using the cash flows estimated to settle the present obligation, its carrying amount is the present value of those cash flows. When some or all of the economic benefits required to settle a provision are expected to be recovered from a third party, the receivable is recognised as an asset if it is virtually certain that reimbursement will be received and the amount of the receivable can be measured reliably.
2.8
Leases Operating leases - where the Temple is a lessee Leases where a significant portion of the risks and rewards of ownership are retained by the lessors are classified as operating leases. Payments made under operating leases are recognised in statement of financial activities on a straight-line basis over the period of the lease. When an operating lease is terminated before the lease period has expired, any payment required to be made to the lessor by way of penalty is recognised as an expense in the period in which the termination takes place.

Taxes Goods and Services Tax (GST) Revenues, expenses and assets are recognised net of the amount of GST except: 
Where the GST incurred on a purchase of assets or services is not recoverable from the taxation authority, in which case the GST is recognised as part of the cost of acquisition of the asset or as part of the expense item as applicable; and

Receivables and payables that are stated with the amount of GST included.
The net amount of GST recoverable from, or payable to, the taxation authority is included as part of receivables or payables in the statement of financial position. 2.10
Cash and cash equivalents Cash and cash equivalents include cash on hand, cash at banks and deposits with financial institutions that are subject to an insignificant risk of change in value. Cash and cash equivalents are carried at cost. Fixed deposits that have short maturities of three months or less from the date of acquisition are included in cash equivalents. All other fixed deposits are reported separately in the statement of financial position.
2.11
Government grants Government grants that are receivable as compensation for expenses or losses incurred or for the purpose of giving immediate financial support to the Temple are recognised in the statement of financial activities as other income in the period in which they become receivable.

Critical accounting judgements and key sources of estimation uncertainty In the application of the Temple’s accounting policies, which are described in Note 2, the Management Committee is required to make judgements, estimates and assumptions about the carrying amounts of assets and liabilities that are not readily apparent from other sources. The estimates and associated assumptions are based on historical experience and other factors that are considered to be relevant. Actual results may differ from these estimates. The estimates and underlying assumptions are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Revisions to accounting estimates are recognised in the period in which the estimate is revised if the revision affects only that period, or in the period of the revision and future periods if the revision affects both current and future periods.

Critical accounting judgements and key sources of estimation uncertainty (continued) 3.1
Critical judgements in applying the Temple’s accounting policies In the process of applying the Temple’s accounting policies, management is of the opinion that any instances of application are not expected to have a significant effect on the amounts recognised in the financial statements.
3.2
Key sources of estimation uncertainty The key assumptions concerning the future and other key sources of estimation uncertainty at the end of the reporting period that have a significant risk of causing a material adjustment to the carrying amounts of assets and liabilities within the next financial year are discussed below: (a)
Depreciation of property, plant and equipment Management estimates the useful lives of property, plant and equipment to be as disclosed in Note 2.3. The carrying amounts of the Temple’s property, plant and equipment are disclosed in Note 9. Changes in the expected level of usage and technological development could impact the economic useful lives and the residual values of these assets. Hence, future depreciation charges could be revised.
(b)
Allowance for inventory obsolescence Management reviews the carrying value of its inventories to ensure that they are stated at the lower of cost and net realisable value. In assessing the net realisable value and making appropriate allowance, management identifies inventories that are slow-moving or obsolete, considers their physical conditions and the market price of similar items. Where items of inventory have a market price that is lower that their carrying amounts, the management estimates the amount of inventory loss as allowance on inventory. The carrying amount of the inventories at the end of the reporting period is disclosed in Note 7 to the financial statements.

Financial risk management The main risks arising from the Temple’s normal course of operation are credit and interest rate and liquidity risk. The Temple’s overall risk management strategy seeks to minimise potential adverse effects of these risks on the financial performance of the Temple. Risk management policies and procedures are reviewed regularly to reflect changes in market conditions and the Temple’s activities. Credit risk Management has a credit policy in place and the exposure to credit risk is monitored on an ongoing basis. At the end of the reporting period, the Temple’s maximum exposure to credit risk is represented by the carrying amount of each financial asset presented on the statement of financial position. Cash is placed with banks which are regulated. There is no financial asset that is past due and/or impaired.

- 32 Buddha Tooth Relic Temple (Singapore) Notes to the financial statements 31 December 2019 23.
Financial instruments, financial risks and capital risks management (continued) 23.2
Financial risk management (continued) Interest rate risk Interest rate risk is the risk that the fair value of future cash flows of the Temple’s financial instruments will fluctuate because of changes in market interest rate. The Temple is exposed to interest rate risks through the impact of changes in interest rates on its fixed deposits and held-to-maturity investments. Sensitivity analysis At the end of the reporting period, an increase/decrease of 25 basis in interest rates of fixed deposits and held-to-maturity would increase/decrease net income for the financial year by $30,125 (2018: $18,125). Liquidity risk Liquidity risk is the risk that the Temple will encounter difficulty in meeting financial obligations due to shortage of funds. The Temple monitors its liquidity risk and maintains a level of cash and cash equivalents deemed adequate by management to finance its operations and to mitigate the effects of fluctuations in cash flows. All financial liabilities in 2019 and 2018 are repayable on demand or due within one year from the end of the reporting period. Funds management The funds of the Temple comprise the General fund, Maitreya Charity fund, Museum fund, Project and Sinking fund as well as Investment fund. The Temple aims to maintain an optimum level of funds to ensure that it will be able to continue as a going concern. The Temple’s overall strategy remains unchanged from the prior year. The Temple is not subject to any externally imposed fund reserve requirements.
