Foreword You are very welcome to the Esat Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition, the greatest showcase for the talent and imagination that exists among the young scientists on the island of Ireland. This is Esat's fifth year as sponsor of the event, something of which we are immensely proud and we extend our gratitude to the thousands of students who continue to make this into one of the highlights of the academic calendar. The 2002 Exhibition has received a record number of entries so each student exhibiting should take great pride in getting so far with their projects. It is a huge achievement to be at the RDS with us this week. Our special thanks and praise must go to the teachers and parents who have dedicated so much time and energy into helping the students put these outstanding projects together, the personal commitment is outstanding and very inspiring to future exhibitors. The Esat Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition is about the future. The students who exhibit here are key to our future. This exhibition offers these students an excellent opportunity to display their innovation, creativity and overwhelming ability. Science and technology offer us the opportunities to explore and discover the world around us and we hope that the Exhibition gives us some idea of the innovations to come. After 38 years of experiencing the best of Ireland's young talent in the area of science and technology exhibiting in the Young Scientist Exhibition, I know the 2002 Esat Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition will again showcase our youth's extensive ability to develop the innovations of the future. I hope each one of you enjoy your experiences here throughout the week and look forward to entering or encouraging entries to the 2003 exhibition.

On display are life-size replicas of the famous house robots from the highly popular television programme, 'Robot Wars'. Matilda, Shunt, Dead Metal, Sgt. Bash and the amazing Sir Killalot are there for close inspection plus, you can view video highlights of their greatest moments from the programme. Alongside this display is the 'exercise' arena where some of the actual Irish Stars from the TV show will be demonstrating, Robots such as Diotoir from DUBLIN and Wel'Dor from Belfast, will be put through their paces to
winning Robotic Relay Team whilst the boys from Downshire Secondary School in Carrickfergus will show what made their swimming robot the success it was in the TV show. But the undoubted star of Techno Games is Skeletron, the six foot tall, rope climbing 'lady' robot who will be at the show complete with her very own car! The Techno Games stand itself will give visitors an insight into the world of robotics plus you could have a chance to build a'Jitterbug' walking robot of your own to take home! The 'World of Robots' should prove to be one of the most popular exhibits at this year's show.
