REWO, ER Lingus is happy and proud to provide 14 Ireland's young scientists and technologists with an annual opportunity to display and test the merit of their work. Through the annual Young Scientists Exhibition we hope to stimulate interest in science and attract young people to a career in science, technology, research and development. Aer Lingus has always been to the fore in the growth and application of science and technology. In our fleet we have the latest high technology aircraft and we export aviation expertise to airlines around the world. This business is now worth ÂŁ265 million annually. The research projects submitted each year in the Young Scientists Exhibition are impressive testimony of what young Irish people can produce. Strong personal commitment, disciplined effort and creativity have enabled them to shape their ideas into worthwhile research work which can benefit all of us. Last year, again, winners from the Aer Lingus exhibition won top awards in Europe and in the US. We are very proud of their achievements in these international contests. As a result of Ireland's success abroad we are now able to bring the top young scientists from several European countries to the RDS. We see this co-operation and interchange between young scientists of Europe as being of great importance as we enter 1992.

organise this annual event. We are grateful to Eolas for their support for the exhibition. We also extend gratitude to the Commission of the European Communities and to the Westinghouse Corporation who sponsor our winners to compete abroad. To the RDS and Cara the Computer People we also extend thanks for their co-operation. We offer very special appreciation to schools all over Ireland who provide resources and support for the young scientists in the development of their work. We thank the judges without whose painstaking work the exhibition could not have achieved its acknowledged success and value. I extend a warm welcome to each and every exhibitor, their parents and teachers. It is a great pleasure for us to host this event and to give public recognition to the work you have done.

CATHAL MULLAN Group Chief Executive

Aer Lingus wishes to acknowledge the efforts of many people and organisations who work with us to 4
