Exhibition, Scientists ' Young Our first successful as it proved to be, was essentially tentative and experimental . Nothing of the kind had ever been attempted in Ireland, and in organising it, we made what was tantamount to an act of faith in the youth of this country . The response , not only fulfilled our most optimistic hopes , but set us an unexpected problem in catering for a large number of entries . This was one problem we were pleased to encounter. In anticipation of an even greater response to this second Young Scientists ' Exhibition, we decided to transfer the venue to the present, more spacious site . I am sure that teachers, parents , as well as members of the public who visit this Exhibition, will share our satisfaction at the number , variety and standard of the projects now on view and will agree with us that the future welfare of this country is assured as long as our young people continue to give such tangible evidence of their industry and ingenuity. I wish to take this opportunity of thanking all those who have contributed in so many ways to the success of this Exhibition : our hardworking judges for giving so generously of their valuable time ; teachers for the advice and encouragement given to their pupils ; the Royal Dublin Society for making their premises available and the exhibitors themselves without whom,
