SIALKOT THE CITY OF OUR NATIONAL POET DR ALLAMA MUHAMMAD IQBAL Sialkot city is the capital of Sialkot District, located in the northeast of the Punjab province in Pakistan. It is the 4th largest economic hub in Punjab a er Lahore, Faisalabad and Gujranwala. The per capita income of Sialkot is the highest in Pakistan which has been witnessed at $2,800 in 2012.

Sialkot has an Industrial Estate and an Export Processing Zone.

Sialkot Interna onal Airport has the dis nc ons of being the first privately owned public airport in Pakistan and South Asia.

Sialkot is also known as the city of eminent personali es. These include Dr Muhammad Iqbal (poet & philosopher), Faiz Ahmad Faiz (poet), Zaheer Abbas, Shoaib Muhammad (former captain of cricket team), Shahnaz Sheikh (hockey player), Hamid Mir (journalist and GEO TV anchor), and many more.

Sialkot is tradi onally a center of sports goods, surgical instruments, leather goods/garments, cutlery, and musical instruments industries. There are also various types of plas c and metal-based industries. For the past several decades, the manufacturers and exporters of the city have been awarded the Annual Na onal Exports Award by the Federa on of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry. Forward Sports is one of the major suppliers for Adidas and the official brand sponsor for the FIFA World Cup 2014 which was held in Brazil.

The journey from ILM to UMT

The University of Management and Technology was established in 1990 and has evolved into a premier ins tu on of higher learning in the country. Recognized by the Higher Educa on Commission (HEC) as a “W4” category (highest rank) university, UMT is also the first in the Punjab amongst medium sized universi es in the general category.

UMT was founded in 1990 as the Ins tute of Leadership and Management (ILM). ILM was established by leading educa onists, professionals, and industrialists with an aim to enhance the organiza onal and individual effec veness.

Guided by the noble mission of helping others in actualizing their limitless human poten al to its finest shape, ILM sought to respond to the challenges of informa on-based economy, globaliza on, and ever increasing complexity.

UMT – now an independent, not-for-profit, private ins tu on of higher learning – received her degree-gran ng charter first as the Ins tute of Management and Technology (IMT) in 2002 through an Act of the Assembly of the Punjab. Later, on 16 June 2004, IMT became University of Management and Technology through the passing of a similar Act by the Punjab Assembly.

Introduction to UMT Sialkot Campus The UMT Sialkot Campus being the first sub campus of UMT was formally opened in Sialkot on 2nd May, 2012. It is worth men oning that UMT has the dis nc on of being the 1st University in Sialkot. Academic Distinction UMT Sialkot Campus offers a broad range of Bachelor, Master and MPhil degree programs in many disciplines such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathema cs, Commerce, Accoun ng, Business Administra on, Banking and Finance, Computer Science, Fashion & Design, Applied Linguis cs, Social Sciences, Islamic Thoughts & Civiliza on and many more. All academic programs meet HEC criteria. The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) permits BS Electrical and Mechanical Engineering programs while the BBA and MBA programs are accredited by the Na onal Business Educa on Accredita on Council. The Na onal Computer Educa on Accredita on Council (NCEAC) has accredited the BS Computer Science and So ware Engineering programs.

Learning Resource Center Introduc on Learning Resource Center (LRC) works as catalyst in transforming learning into knowledge. It develops rela onship between itself and users to strengthen knowledge crea on, dissemina on and genera on. It has gained signiďŹ cant grandness in knowledge and informa on-seeking community.

The number of corporate clients and alumni who con nue to use our services on a regular basis speak of the quality of our resources. The development and elabora on of services designed around broad-spectrum of contents and concepts are done on con nuous basis. This is how the Library is a treasure house of human knowledge.

LRC is suppor ng course requirements and research needs; the general collec on supplements the wide variety of course related requirements. This collec on holds approximately 7,500 books. The library maintains comprehensive reference materials. Reference collec on includes dic onaries, encyclopedias, handbooks, almanacs and bibliographies on several topics. Periodicals are arranged on the entrance space of the Library. Newspapers are displayed in the periodical sec on.

Ofce of Participants Affairs Introduc on The Office of Par cipants Affairs (OPA) facilitates UMT par cipants in personality development and professional grooming, besides providing opportuni es for recrea onal and extracurricular ac vi es. OPA manages various clubs and socie es. The ac vi es organized by OPA broaden the par cipants’ perspec ves and help them to develop their skills.

Office of Par cipants Affairs is considered to be the department in university that provides dedicated advisory services to par cipants not only in their co-curricular as well as in extracurricular ac vi es. Par cipant’s involvement in diverse clubs and socie es can be one of the most enriching aspects of the university experience. Clubs and Societies Social Welfare Society The society organizes fund-raising campaigns for humanitarian social causes and charity purposes to help the deprived and under-privileged people.

Blood Donor Society The Blood Donor Society is a club that allows the needy to look for a donor with the desired blood group and request for dona on. UMT students, faculty and staff may join the society.

Al'Asr Islamic Society Al’Asr Islamic Society is a pla orm meant primarily for enlightening the UMT community with Islamic teachings and principles. They have a mission to conduct different workshops and seminars which can enrich the students' knowledge of religion.

Extra Curricular Club Extra Curricular Club arranges Fes vals, Carnivals, Annual Dinners, Award Ceremonies and all other ac vi es which do not fall in the scope of any other club/society. This club also provides arrangements to all other club in their events.

UMT Drama c Club UMT Drama c Club arranges a number of dramas and plays originally wri en, directed and produced by the par cipants of UMT. UMT Media Club UMT Media Club is a unique pla orm where students from diverse background contribute in media engagement,

conduc ng workshops and seminars. Main duty of this club is to cover all the OPA events.

UMT Adventure Club UMT Adventure Club is established to organize ac vi es like trips, trekking and camping etc. This club is also engaged in providing par cipants an opportunity to overcome their fear factor by taking part in such ac vi es that requires strong nerve.

Khateeb Deba ng Club Khateeb Deba ng Club arranges debate compe ons, symposiums and many other compe ons on issues of na onal/interna onal significance.

UMT Literary Society UMT Literary Society serves as a pla orm for par cipants with literary taste and wri ng acumen. The club is meant to promote literary ac vi es and helps members to cul vate their literary tastes and sharpen their wri ng skills.

UMT Gal’s Zone Gal's Zone is basically a girl's community, where girls can arrange, organize & enjoy a variety of events like Lectures, Seminars, Events, Dinners, Par es and Trips etc.

UMT Sports Zone UMT Sports Zone comprises of nine sports clubs each having a team of brilliant players in it. They are trained properly before par cipa on in matches within and outside the university at various pla orms from university level to divisional and provincial level.
