St. Catherine’s School Godolphin School Abingdon School A very warm welcome back to another weekend of sport at Berkhamsted. Today we welcome St. Catherine’s School and Godolphin School for girls lacrosse fixtures and Abingdon School for boys football fixtures. Our Y8 boys will be taking part in their first rugby training session of the season. We are delighted to welcome SOCS TV to our lacrosse fixtures today who will be livestreaming our U18A matches. Please keep a close eye on Berkhamsted Sports Website (sport. berkhamsted.com) and Instagram pages for updates, postponements and changes in the venues and timings of those fixtures taking place. For Chesham Road morning fixtures, we have limited parking available at Ashlyns School (HP4 3AH) Alternative parking will be available at Haslam Field (HP4 3NG). Head Injuries & Concussion Concussion is a complex process caused by trauma that transmits force to the brain either directly or indirectly and results in temporary impairment of brain function. Its development and resolution are rapid and spontaneous. Ultimately if you are unsure at any stage if a player has a head injury or is concussed you should seek medical attention. Listed below are some of the possible signs of concussion. Headaches - It is only normal after a blow to the head to suffer a mild headache. There could be some bruising or mild swelling over the scalp which may be tender, but this doesn’t necessarily mean a player has concussion. If the headache seems to be getting worse this could be a cause for concern so seek medical attention. Drowsiness - means they cannot be roused. It can be common for players to want to sleep for a short time (especially children), and it will be okay to let them do so. If there are further concerns you can wake them a few times during the night, especially if a knock on the head has happened just before bedtime. If, on the other

hand, they are difficult to wake or show signs of confusion, seek medical attention. Other Symptoms - Confusion, unsteadiness, memory loss and convulsiveness. If players show any signs of the above they should seek medical attention. These are merely guidelines as you know your student better than anyone else, but please remember signs and symptoms could take up to 48 hours to develop and should be monitored. Berkhamsted School takes all head injuries seriously and all members of PE staff are First Aid trained and follow the RFU Head Case protocol if a student sustains a head injury. School match days are also covered by the 1st XV physiotherapist, as well as Pro Medicus Ambulance who are available if there are concerns. In serious cases students would be referred to a local hospital (listed at the beginning of the programme) as they would with any other serious injury.
