The purpose of the Blue Springs Chamber Business of the Year award is to recognize excellence in business. Each year the Chamber recognizes Chamber member businesses that are active members of the community and proud of what they have achieved in business. This year we will award both a Business of the Year and a Non-Profit of the year! Companies & organizations may nominate themselves, be nominated or nominate another company. Nomination forms are available online or at the Chamber office and will be accepted through Friday, November 19, 2021. All nominated companies are recognized by the Chamber at the December monthly luncheon on Thursday, December 16, 2021, and the winner will be announced at the Chamber’s Annual Banquet on Friday, January 21, 2022 so be sure to save the dates!

MEMBER NEWS Congratulations to Kirk Lair on being appointed as Chief of Central Jackson County Fire Protection District. On behalf of all the employees, we would like to congratulate Chief Kirk Lair on his new position. Chief Lair has been with the fire district for 31 years, promoting through the ranks of firefighter, driver, captain, Assistant Chief, and Deputy Chief. MEET A BOARD MEMBER Melodie Chrisman I am the Vice President of Income Supports and Blue Springs Site Manager for Community Services League (CSL). CSL is a non-profit organization with 11 offices throughout Eastern Jackson County serving our neighbors in an impactful way. Our mission is to serve those in need and provide skills that make life altering changes in their economic status. I have been involved with the Chamber since 1995 when I began volunteering while working at Starke Law Offices. I served over 9 years with the Fall Fun Festival committee and this is my first year as a new board member. As a long time resident and community leader here in Blue Springs it is an honor to serve in another capacity especially with a group of leaders that I admire highly.

We are a small/medium community and we need each other to succeed and lift each other up whether that be through business or community outreach. The Chamber has been an incredible partner in working with the residents and businesses of the community to bring awareness of the need to help our neighbors in their time of need. I have been married to Brian Chrisman for 25 years and we have two children. Our son Jordan is an English teacher and football and track coach in the North Kansas City school district. Our daughter Regan is an amazing artist and works for Lockton as a Content Print Design Artist and is heading to grad school soon. I love to go down to Truman Lake and explore the land, ride four wheelers, build bonfires and enjoy the peace. We bought property there and will begin building our dream retirement hom in a year or so.
