LEADERSHIP DAY AT THE CAPITAL The Blue Springs LEADership class toured the capital on February 10 and met with representatives Jeff Coleman, Mike Cierpiot, and Dr. Jon Patterson.
LUNCH & LEARN “WHEN THINGS GET MESSY” Our first Lunch & Learn was a panel discussion on “When Things Get Messy”, held on February 8, 2022. The topics included overcoming obstacles, doing things that can be messy and hard, and the determination to make it happen. Panelists included Chamber members Kevin Girtz, Director of Sales at Moxie Pest Control, Kimberly Utz, Marketing Representative at SERVPRO East Independence/Blue Springs, Randy Wisthoff, Executive Director of the Kansas City Zoo Foundation and Greg Johnson, owner of A-Okay Inspections. Thank you to St. Mary’s Medical Center for sponsoring this event, and to Los Cabos Mexican Grill & Cantina for providing lunch. The next Lunch & Learn will be held on April 12, 2022 and will be a panel discussion about running a family business.
LEGISLATIVE BREAKFAST The Chamber hosts four Legislative Breakfasts each year giving members a chance to hear updates provided by state elected officials. Attendees are able to ask questions of Senator Mike Cierpiot and Representatives Jeff Coleman, Jon Patterson, Dan Stacy and Chris Sander. The next Legislative Breakfast will be held Friday, March 4 at Adams Pointe Golf Club.
MEMBER NEWS The Blue Springs Police Department has partnered with Pawportunities for Animal Control Services. Pawportunites Inc. will provide personnel to perform animal control services such as responding to calls for service, boarding and releasing animals, education to the community and issuing citations for animal related municipal ordinance violations. St. Mary’s Medical Center has hired a new Chief Executive Officer, effective February 28, 2022, to oversee its operations at its Blue Springs hospital. Kelly Pearce, MHA, RN, FACHE, has been named CEO after serving as Vice President of Hospital Operations at SSM Health DePaul Hospital in St. Louis where he was responsible for daily operations of a 523-bed acute care hospital. It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of John Hardy’s passing. John has been an active Chamber member since 1986. He was also a CJCFPD Fire District Board member and a Rotarian. Our hearts go out to all of those that will grieve his loss. He was a wonderful man and will be missed. The Benton House of Blue Springs was recently awarded a 2022 Pinnacle Quality Insight Customer Experience Award™ Kim Davis, Executive Director of Benton House of Blue Springs John Hardy says receiving the honor is validation of their mission. “We’re so proud to receive this award. MEET A MEMBER
Carrie Siems, Pawportunities Pawportunities was founded by Bentley Siems when he was 13 years old, after he won a national science fair award. In an effort to use his monetary award to make a difference in the world, he decided to begin an animal rescue. His mother, Carrie Siems, says “he won’t be able to “save them all”, but he can save a few, and begin what will be the next generation of pet rescue.” What started out operated by a family, now has foster homes located throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area, is licensed in 2 states, and has been contracted to operate Blue Springs Animal Control. In its three years of existence Pawportunities has adopted out over 1,000 animals, started a dog house outreach program, TNR hundreds of community cats annually, hosts a biannual low cost vaccination, microchip and nail trim clinic, provides a food pantry, and works with the Blue Springs School District in teaching vet tech students. Pawportunities was the first small, young rescue to be named by The Pitch Weekly as a Top 3 Places to Adopt a Pet in Kansas City! Contact Pawportunities at (816) 935-0780.

To post a Hot Deal, log into bluespringschamber.com using your email and password. If you do not know your password, please contact the Chamber office. Once you are logged into your member portal, on the left hand side, you will see a list of Shortcuts — click on “Hot Deals.” In the next screen, click on the blue button to the right that reads “add hot deal.” Enter the requested information on your offer, and upload a picture or logo if you wish. Make sure to enter both the “offer start date” and “offer end date,” as well as the “publish start date” and “publish end date” at the bottom. Typically these start and end dates will be the same. When you are finished you should click on “submit for approval.” Once submitted, we get a message on our end to go in and view the offer and approve. If we see any issues with dates or content, we will contact you. All deals submitted will be posted on the Hot Deals page of our website within 48 hours.
