Heartland attendees receive fundamental economic development training on topics ranging from business, retention and expansion, workforce development, real estate, and entrepreneurship to marketing, finance, ethics, and managing economic development organizations. ECS Capital Investments has welcomed Charlene Gibson to the team. Charlene is the new office assistant and handles all the day to day front end office tasks. She brings over 32 years of office experience working in the insurance business, has lived in Blue Springs since 1989, and has one son and one brand Debra Weilbacher new granddaughter. Congratulations to Julius Oswald on being awarded the Baron of the Ball Room Award on May 19 in Branson by the Kansas City Metropolitan Board Association.

LEADERSHIP BLUE SPRINGS Class of 2022 The Leadership class of 2021-2022 finished up the year with a graduation celebration on Thursday, May 26. This year’s class included 14 participants representing 11 Chamber member businesses and organizations. During the course, participants developed skills and knowledge of our community through a series of workshops focused on business, government, quality of life, and volunteer services. Over the past year the Leadership class visited and learned about area small businesses, big businesses, Fire & Safety, Jackson County, the City of Blue Springs, the Blue Springs School District, and the State Capital. The class also collected donations and completed a group project to benefit Hillcrest Ministries. Centerpoint Medical Center donated $1000 to provide Christmas trees for teens and Lead Bank donated $500 towards celebration kits used to make kids birthdays and milestones memorable. In addition to monetary donations, the class spent a Saturday morning volunteering at one of Hillcrest’s youth transitional homes where they organized supplies, worked in the food pantry and assembled new furniture. Reflecting on his time in Leadership class, Russell Propp of Turner Construction says, “I learned a great deal about the operations of the local Blue Springs government, small business community, school district, as well as the representation in our state’s capital. It was a valuable opportunity to connect with community leaders and see firsthand the impact of volunteering and serving the Blue Springs community for the greater good.” If you or your organization is interested in participating in the 2023 Leadership class you can find more information at www.BlueSpringsChamber.com/Leadership-Blue-Springs. MEET A MEMBER Andy Mayfield, Blue Springs School District My name is Andy Mayfield and I am proud to be a part of the Blue Springs School District for the last 17 years. I have had many different roles during my time with BSSD and currently I am the Associate Principal at Blue Springs High School Freshman Campus and help oversee our career technical education programs in the Career Innovation Campus area of the building. I am also a part of our district’s Real World Learning team and a point of contact for local community members and businesses that are interested Andy Mayfield in learning more about our Real World Learning program and want to partner with the amayfield@BSSD.NET district. Our district’s Real World Learning mission is provide our students the opportunity to discover and pursue their real-world potential. This regional initiative is designed to help prepare our students for their future. We believe it is important that our students are prepared for work, school, and life after high school graduation. We want to provide immersive experiences across a multitude of interests, industries, and employers through real-world projects, internships, and other professional based learning opportunities. Through these experiences, our students will gain the skills to navigate their future and become the talent of tomorrow. I am proud to say that I was born and raised in Blue Springs. My family has lived in Blue Springs for many years and I graduated from Blue Springs High School after spending my entire K-12 experience in BSSD. This community and our school district means so much to me and my family. I currently live in Blue Springs with my wonderful wife, Nikki, and our three amazing children, Emma, Belle, and Scarlett. My number one hobby is spending as much time with my family and enjoying all the great things that the area offers a young family. My wife and I love to travel. Sports has been a big part of my life and I enjoy supporting all of the Kansas City area sports teams.
