Blue Springs Fall UN-Festival, Virtual Vendors & Local Food! For the first time in the Festival’s 51-year history, the muchanticipated Blue Springs Fall Fun Festival will be produced as a local food tour and virtual booth experience spanning two days. Taking place Friday, September 18 and Saturday, September 19, the two-day experience will extend to a national audience of viewers and feature virtual performances and unique booth shopping including artists, makers, crafters, market vendors, non-profit organizations and commercial vendors from all over the United States. The Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce is proud to bring this virtual experience to our community and provide the fun and excitement that the Festival is known for in a safe environment. MEET A BOARD MEMBER Cindy Miller I’m one of 8 regional directors with the Columbia College Global division with oversight of civilian metropolitan campuses located in Salt Lake City, Denver, Kansas City, Orlando and Jacksonville. I have been a member of the Chamber for 3 years, and I love that the Chamber walks the walk. EVERYONE is welcome, and everyone is encouraged to participate. There is no hierarchy based on a person’s financial status, longevity of their business, or importance in the community. This is truly the most inclusive, engaging, and welcoming chamber with which I’ve been fortunate to participate. The Chamber has contributed visibility and a greater awareness of how Columbia College serves its students. There are a lot of colleges and universities in the Kansas City metro, some of whom have a much higher profile and flashier marketing campaigns. It is nice to know that the networking activities we have engaged in with the Blue Springs Chamber has given us credibility in our community. I’m a Star Trek fan with an embarrassing collection of trekkie memorabilia! I love Disney animated movies, attend as many stage shows and concerts as I can afford and I also belong to the Eastern Independence Rotary Club. I’ve lived in Blue Springs for 32 years with my husband Mike, and we have two adult children, Amanda and Luke.

MEET A MEMBER GAVIN HUGHES, HUGHES DEFENSE Hughes Defense was founded by Gavin Hughes, the former manager of a gun store in Odessa Missouri. He opened his own firearms store in hopes of creating a different kind of gun store. One where you feel comfortable in asking for help, and not looked down on for not having the same knowledge as the person on the other side of the counter. Since they opened in 2019, he has added many like minded individuals to help man the store as it has grown in popularity. In 2014, the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) and the Brookings Institution researched the Kansas City region’s economic status coming out of the Great Recession. The ensuing “Prosperity at a Crossroads” report found the Kansas City region was not progressing out of the recession as quickly as some of its metropolitan peers. Energized by this challenge, the business and civic community came together to create a long-term vision to accelerate the Kansas City region’s economic growth. KC Rising is a regional, long-term initiative to build collaborative scale, create system alignment, promote public-private partnerships and leverage existing initiatives in support of realizing Kansas City’s potential. Each year, KC Rising measures Kansas City’s progress against the 15 metros areas just above us in population and the 15 metro areas below. The goal is for Kansas City to rank in the top 10 of these 30 peer metro regions on three measures: gross metropolitan product, median household income, and number of quality jobs.
