MINIMUM WAGE RATE SET FOR PRIVATE EMPLOYERS FOR 2020 Jefferson City, MO - The Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations recently announced the state minimum wage rate for 2020 has been established, according to state law, at $9.45, effective January 1, 2020. All private businesses are required to pay at a minimum, the $9.45 hourly rate, except retail and service businesses whose gross sales are less than $500,000.

Pursuant to Proposition B, which was approved by Missouri voters November 6, 2018, the minimum wage will increase 85 cents per hour each year through 2023. Missouri law does not apply to public employers, nor does it allow the state’s minimum wage rate to be lower than the federal minimum wage rate. Compensation for tipped employees must also total at least $9.45 per hour. Employers are required to pay tipped employees at least 50 percent of the minimum wage, plus any amount necessary to bring the employee’s total compensation to a minimum of $9.45 per hour.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY The Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce has a scholarship available to high school seniors.

Be on the look out for applications in the coming weeks!

Scholarships will be awarded to seniors from four different high schools.

One to Blue Springs High School, Blue Springs South High School, Valley View High School, and one other high school.

To be eligible, students must work for a business that is a member of the Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce OR have a parent/guardian that works for a business that is a member.

Meet Jayme Jayme Prenger has been with Integrity Home Care & Hospice for over a year and serves as a Home Care Navigator. In this role, she assists families as they navigate the stages of elder care. With nearly five years of elder care experience, Jayme has a passion to educate seniors and their families about options and the changes ahead. For Integrity, she serves on the Private Care Team, the Dementia Care Team and the Marketing Team.

The Department of Labor finally issued the new Overtime Rule on Tuesday, September 24th, 2019.

Department of Labor Overtime Pay Ruling This event is provided in partnership between the Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce and the Blue Springs HR Consortium.

Tuesday, January 14 8:30am—9:30am This new ruling will set the minimum salary threshold for the Fair Labor Standard Act’s white-collar exemptions at $684 per week, or $35,568 per year. Employers with salaried employees should be prepared to adjust their pay practices.
