Jersey Mikes celebrated their annual Day of Giving. On March 28, they donated 100% of the day's sales to Peace Partnership. FosterAdopt Connect is celebrating Child Abuse Prevention Month with two events: "Ribs for Kids" and "Teach Them to Soar." Black Derby Estates recently started a 10-Part Newsletter Series where they address frequently asked questions about their business. Blue Springs Art League announced that Doug Bennett, painter of the "Our Town" mural downtown, will be their featured presenter at their annual spring luncheon. The Blue Springs Police Department Community & Youth Outreach Unit are starting a new summer program for young boys, 10-14 years old, called "Life Sports," where they will learn about the challenges they face. The Independence EDC honored Blue Ridge Bank & Trust Co. as Major Employer of the Year and Speaks Legacy Chapel as Philanthropic Business of the Year.

Meet Dee ParkerBlack Derby Estate Sales LLC "I consider myself blessed to have found a line of work in retirement that is so rewarding, and sharing that with my husband of 40 years, Terry. For 30 years, Terry worked at Waddell and Reed and I spent most of my time being a mother and volunteering in Blue Springs, including 7 years with the Golden Regiment Marching Band. The Black Derby Team helps people through some of life’s most challenging transitions-- moving, downsizing, moving a loved one into assisted living or helping through the liquidation of a loved one's estate. It is our honor to be in the position to help with the physical and emotional part of that transition. We would all describe our work ethic as Professionalism, Integrity and Compassion. In my spare time I enjoy learning new things, listening to music, learning the violin again, attending the Symphony, spending special time with friends, quietness in nature, traveling, and most of all my family-- 3 sons, a daughter-in-law and 2 precious granddaughters."
