Sara Ann Rutherford
Sara Ann Rutherford grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and rural Western Pennsylvania. Her interest in creating began at an early age, and after high school, Sara Ann studied painting independently, honing her style. She describes her painting process as stream of consciousness, with each painting often being completed in one intense session. Her work has been featured in the inaugural issue of Dumbo Living Magazine and the second issue of Gallery M International Art Magazine. Currently, she has a solo exhibition at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn and The Bean in Manhattan.

Welcome to the premiere issue of B Scene Zine, an occasional publication
that aims to document, perpetuate and Contents
illuminate the arts and commerce of our
little slice of Ave B. This sorry little rag Roderick, Music

purchase of a Polaroid camera.
Everyone loved being documented in Peso Neto, Street Art
such a non-digital way and, so, we're
flying with that retro theme. The B, now the kool kids
as it was in analog days, is a feeling,
and the B Scene Zine is yOUR fucking Kcups and Hasi

contributed to this first issue and we Frankie New, Barbie
look forward to getting much more help
The Phatory, Sculpture if/when we proceed to Issue 2. We can
use all the help we can get, starting with Zero, Photography
the design of a logo. So far we've spent
minutes on it and all we came up with EVVC / 3rd and BZaar
was this lame-ass sketch. Anyone?
See and B Scene.

BSZ: So, there’s a new album titled “Wandering in the Vastness.”
RJW: Yeah, it’s our 15th studio album. We’re the most prolific obscure band from Seattle. We recorded in four studios in Seattle, Tennessee and Brooklyn.
BSZ: When did the band start?
RJW: 1988. It started with a performance art piece and evolved into a psych-rock band.
BSZ: What about treehouses?
RJW: Oh, that’s my other life. I’ve built and designed over 60 treehouses around the world. I guess I’d consider myself an outsider architect.

You who are one of the dreamers
have blown it big-time, met defeat, gone into debt.
You’ll fail again, no doubt.
Still, everyone is out
tonight—so many redeemers
of failed days, years, whole lives:
bicyclists with streamers
tied to their handlebars,
buskers with their guitars,
tough guys out front of dives
and chicks in topless cars.
Whistles and whoops, high fives,
all work like one big, “Yes!”
Wild nights like this one bless
victims of unsuccess
so fully we forget
utter defeat in fun.
Tonight, friend, we have won — no sorrow, no regret
(and summer has just begun).

My Instagram is “_pesoneto” The name Peso Neto is Spanish for “Net Weight” which in essence is printed on every consumer product - which equivocally means my art name is on practically everything until the end of time. “

Barbie. TheAlternative Muse.
From Overnight Success to Queer Icon
My research explores an alternative view into Barbie’s influence, namely on that of fashion and queer culture and the symbiotic relationship between the two. The foundation of my research revolves around a personal collection of Barbie dolls whose designers are all queer. These designers include Billy Boy, Bob Mackie, The Blonds, and Jeremy Scott. Each section of my research tells a story around a particular doll or dolls that gives the reader further insight into who the designer is and how Barbie has served as a muse. Through these designers, the storyline includes camp through the whimsy, over-the-top designs of Bob Mackie, drag culture through The Blonds, how their initial doll design sparked an online debate that Mattel launched its first ‘Drag Queen Barbie.’ The progressive nature of Barbie transpires through this list of queer designers who redefined Barbie’s history and have propelled Barbie into not only a queer icon but an ally within the queer community. Works by MJ King, Oct. 1-30
Confined to working in the corner of her apartment during the lockdown, King created a series of abstract miniature sculptures that serve as maquettes for largerscale projects King envisions.
King graduated from the Art Institute in Boston and moved to New York in 1980s to attend the New York Studio School Of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture and continued her studies at The Art Students League. King maintains a studio practice at Mana Contemporary, NJ.
ZERO
Born on the Lower East Side and raised in that neighborhood’s hip hop and punk community, Zero finds her images by walking (sometimes all night) fascinated by the things people do and leave behind and the endlessly creative ways they find to exist in the city. She is self-taught, her early sensibilities formed by 80’s graffiti, hip hop, punk and her mother’s Salsa and Supremes records. Her work has been shown in NYC at Theater for the New City, The Clemente, Rivington Music Rehearsal Studios, and featured in Brooklyn vs. Hackney at Hackney
Picture House, London. She is currently enrolled at LaGuardia Community College pursuing a
Photography degree.

A DJ's
playlist
Notorious trouble maker, Hayden B got bored after retiring from booking shows/events so channelled the voices in his head into alter-ego DJ Kool Thing. Driven into madness, he concocts a wild sonic elixir of punk, soul, psych, new wave, disco, & other thumpin things for your bootay. For a good time, come party while he side-eyes silly requests at EV haunts such as The Beauty Bar, & Otto's Shrunken Head.

Running
When your heroes
Become your enemies,
And there are no walls
Between neighbors...
Disruption occurs, construction
Incessant as the sun
Burns thru all illusion,
Delusion, and Deleuze, Can speak no more about it
Restitution comes in many forms
Shape-shifting as it were;
Your queen is in jeopardy
But you cannot see it--
Blinded by ignorance and default
And there's no Alex Trebek
To correct you, only time
Which wounds all heels,
And your Achilles aches
From the strain of so much running.
