We know the transition between Kindergarten and Reception is a very important stage.

STAGGERED START FOR SEPTEMBER 2025- 2026

THE RECEPTION DAY We have a welcoming, flexible open-door policy.

We are committed to ensuring that your child settles into the new routine with ease.

Therefore we have ‘staggered’ the first few days of school.

We know that by finishing on the following dates and times will support a smooth transition into Reception.

Children may arrive into the classroom from 08.40 and the register is taken promptly at 08.55.

Any child arriving after registration should first sign in at the LP office before coming into class.

The school day ends at 15.50, children should be picked up from the classroom. Class teachers will handover children when they see a child’s parent or person authorised to collect the child.

WEDNESDAYS School finishes at 12.00 for Lower Primary children.

For working parents and/or children taking the school bus at the end of the day, there will be a Garderie service available from the time school finishes on these dates. Please contact primary@britishschool.be) if you wish to use this service.

COLLECTING YOUR CHILD It is important that we are notified as to any change of person picking up your child. Please ensure that you inform the class teacher or LA in the morning or phone the school office.

If your child will travel to and from school by bus, it is very important to keep the class teacher and school office informed of your intended bus use and of any changes to normal routine.

ILLNESS If your child is unwell, please let us know if your child will not be in school.

If they have suffered from sickness and/or diarrhoea we ask parents to keep children at home for 24 hours after their last bout to prevent it from spreading.

If your child needs to visit the nurse, they may be issued with a letter to bring home with more explanation.

If your child becomes unwell during school time, the nurse will call you to discuss further or to inform you they need to go home.

SUPPORTING MEDICAL NEEDS It is vital we are informed of all medical needs or allergies.

SNACKS / LUNCH TIME A hot meal is provided at lunch time.

Please note: A small snack for the midmorning break is required. It is important this is a healthy snack e.g. fresh fruit, raw vegetables, yogurt or breadsticks, with no nuts.

Please also provide a named water bottle.

It would be helpful to bring it full at the start of each day.

ABSENTEEISM If your child is sick and unable to attend school, please contact the office and also email the class teacher as soon as possible.

We ask that families do not take time off during term time as we have a generous holiday allocation published well in advance.

If you do need to request time off school for another purpose, please email Neil Ringrose, Head of Primary, directly, copying in the class teacher(s).

BOOK BAGS

Please make sure your child has appropriate clothing for outside.

Each day your child will come home with their BSB Book Bag containing the Home/School Diary, reading materials and other relevant information.

Please supply a named, waterproof all in one suit/trousers.

Your child will also need a named pair of wellington boots for outdoor learning and forest sessions.

It is really important you check the bag daily not to miss any information.

P.E. SESSIONS The school will provide a gym bag to keep their kit in. This should stay in school, on their peg.

PARENTS AS PARTNERS Across the Early Years the role of the parent is valued. We encourage many ways to ensure parents feel connected in all aspects of learning.

You will receive weekly updates of the skills achieved via an online journal named Tapestry.

Please ensure to sign and check the Tapestry consent forms. You will also receive a Weekly Learning Letter outlining learning and important dates for the week ahead.

CLASS PARENT Each class has one parent volunteer who acts as a Class Parent.

They do an excellent job of communicating general information from the class teacher and also informing the class of My School Portal updates.

MY SCHOOL PORTAL – PARENT PORTAL Key information and communications from school are shared through the school’s parent portal. We would recommend you log on regularly to check for any updates and download the app. https://britishschool-be.myschoolportal.co.uk/login
