RESTORE2 mini is aimed at people who work in nursing homes, residential homes, independent supported living and day activity services, in addition to care home support teams. The module includes:
Research has shown that spotting when someone is unwell can be particularly difficult in a care home setting. This could mean missed opportunities to help someone at an early stage – especially now, with concerns about COVID-19.
It’s important to make sure that any illness or cause of deterioration is identified quickly, so that people can get the right care for them as soon as possible.
To ensure that caregivers understand what they should be looking for and know the correct procedure for dealing with anything that suggests a person is not as well as usual, we have innovated an eLearning module on RESTORE2 mini to add to our extensive suite.
The focus of the module is on detecting ‘soft’ signs of deterioration in residents, facilitating earlier treatment and avoiding unnecessary transfers to hospital. The guide will also support conversations with GP and ambulance services. Knowing Your Resident – explains what you should know about a person in order to spot when something is wrong.
The module includes:
Introduction –
sets out the components of RESTORE2 mini.
Soft Signs –
these are especially valuable when someone finds it difficult to communicate when they are in pain or unwell. This section explains universal soft signs (mental, physical and behaviour or ability) and other soft signs that may be unique to a person.
Raising the Alert –
this section looks at the escalation tool, the SBARD (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation, Decision) action tracker, calling an ambulance, and medical emergencies.
Case Studies –
these allow trainees to understand RESTORE2 mini through reallife situations.
Each trainee will be able to log on to the Blue Stream Academy Management of Information System so their progress can be tracked through the module, and a certificate will show that they have completed the training.
This training module will be free to use nationwide, and the certificate will be stored and can be printed if required.
