Bryn Rovers AFC Vs Bonymaen Colts

2024/2025 Round 1

03/08/2024 | 4:00pm Kick Off Cwrt Herbert 3G, Neath, SA10 7BR

Chairman’s Welcome

Welcome all to the new 2024/25 season. We as a committee would first like to thank all the club supporters for their continued support, the players for their commitment and our management staff and volunteers that make the club run on a day to day basis.

As a club we have grown extensively over the last few years and continue to grow from our junior section right through to our seniors. The club is delighted to be running 16 teams again this season - 4 senior teams, 8 boys mini and junior teams and 4 girls mini and junior teams which is an outstanding achievement for a small village club like ourselves. With the First Team maintaining their status in the West Wales Premier League and the club continuing to field three reserve teams there is a lot of optimism heading into the new campaign.

Our First Team have a big season ahead of them now that the West Wales Premier League has been increased to 16 teams with the addition of some very strong teams, but preseason has gone well with plenty of new faces being added to the squad, so we’re looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead.

On to today’s main event, the FAW Amateur Trophy game against Bonymaen Colts FC of the Swansea League which is our second competitive game of the new season following the impressive away win against Nantyglo FC in the JD Welsh Cup last weekend.

We would like to welcome Bonymaen Colts and their supporters to Cwrt Herbert this afternoon.

We wish the team the best of luck, take the game to them lads and let’s get the win and our name in the hat for the next round!!!

Thank you for your continued support! Uppa Bryn!!

From the Dugout -

Dan Williams - First Team Manager

And just like that preseason is over and we’re back, for what will be another exciting season for the club, players and my coaching team! Firstly I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome Bonymaen Colts of the Swansea League who I’m sure will make things difficult for us this afternoon and cause us some problems.

We’re having to play today’s Dragon Signs Amateur Trophy game at Cwrt Herbert 3G due to the ongoing maintenance work at Cae Criced and I’d like to thank the staff at Neath Sports Centre for accommodating us today.

There’s been lots of hard work going on behind the scenes over the summer. We’ve freshened up the squad by adding seven new players including Nicky Stephenson, Jordan Quinn, Luc Thomas, Callum Edwards, Nick Lacey, Ayrton

Morgan and Sammy Adu-Gyamfi who have all settled in brilliantly and are eager to test themselves this season. On the flip side, five players from the squad have decided to move on and I’d personally like to thank them for their efforts last season and wish them the best in their future challenges.

Our preseason schedule went well and we kicked off the competitive season with a fantastic 3-2 victory away to Nantyglo FC in the Welsh Cup, a game where the boys showed great character in front of a hostile crowd and played some superb football to secure the win, our goals coming from skipper Dan McMahon and a brace from the lively Kirk McNally.

The squad are in good spirits ahead of this game and are keen to start the season strongly so we’ll be doing everything possible to secure our name in the hat for the next round.

I hope you enjoy the game this afternoon! #UppaBryn!

Bryn Rovers AFC

Dylan is an experienced goal keeper having played at Welsh League level with a number of clubs over the years. He’s a great shot stopper and as reliable as they come, a great option to have as part of the squad for this season.

Aled is a solid goalkeeper with great distribution skills and played well for the first team last season when called upon. Aled is a true clubman who does a lot behind the scenes and he’ll be looking to challenge for the number 1 jersey during this campaign.

Nicky is a new addition to the squad this season having made the move from Briton Ferry Llansawel Academy in July. Nicky possesses great technical ability and has the potential to be a top class goalkeeper for years to come!

‘The Wizard’ had a superb season last year picking up Players Player of the Year and also the Top Goal Scorer Award. Harri is as versatile as they come and can play anywhere on the field to a top standard. He’ll be our Vice Captain for this campaign.

Bryn Rovers AFC

Dan is a one club man and showcases everything that Bryn Rovers represents. He’s a no nonsense defender who’s strong in the tackle and great in the air. Our captain for this season will be marshalling our backline and driving us to improve on last years mid table finish.

‘Sippy’ is a player that every team wants in their squad! He’s technically gifted and can play in a variety of positions which strengthens our options. He’s worked extremely hard in the off season and will be a real attacking threat for us.

Luc is a new addition to the squad having signed from Llanilar FC in the Mid Wales League. A classy defender who’s extremely composed on the ball and quick across the ground. His qualities will certainly strengthen our defence this season.

Conor has a wand of a left foot and is a real force in both boxes. The wide player had 15 goal contributions last season predominantly playing from left back and will be looking to replicate or even better those numbers during this campaign.

Bryn Rovers AFC

JJ has the physicality and technical ability to be one of the top wingers in this division. He popped up with some important goals for the team last season to help us secure a mid table finish and we’re hoping that he’ll be able to kick on again this time round.

Adam was superb for the side last season and was awarded Managers Player of the Year for his efforts. He’s a true competitor and loves the physical battle in the middle of the park. He’ll be part of the leadership group for the upcoming season.

Faz has lightening feet and on his day is unplayable. He had a season plagued by injuries last year but has come back strong during preseason and is keen to make up for lost time by showcasing his talents. One to watch this season.

For someone so young, Ayrton possesses great experience having been part of the Carmarthen Town Welsh Premier League squad a few seasons back. A gifted midfielder with a superb range of passing, we’re all expecting big things from Ayrton this season.

Bryn Rovers AFC

Kirk has really hit the ground running this summer and looks to be back at his best. A classy winger, who loves nothing more than beating his man, and possesses a hammer of a left foot! Kirk will be looking to contribute heavily in the attacking areas this year.

Lacey is a Brynamman boy to the core and we’re delighted that he’s come back after spending the last couple of years travelling in Australia. Nick has a superb engine but also a defence splitting pass in his armoury and will be looking to make an immediate impact.

Jack has really impressed during preseason and has worked his way back into the first team fold. A solid player with a great range of passing who will be looking to kick on this season and prove that he deserves to be playing regular first team football.

Callum was a top target for the Gaffer this summer and we’re delighted that he decided to make the move from Bryncoch. Callum is the ultimate box to box midfielder possessing a great engine but also has a worldie in his locker too! Expect big things this year.

Bryn Rovers AFC

Charles joined the club in January and made an instant impact in his first game against Garden Village. Since then the classy attacker has gone from strength to strength and has become an important player for the side. Another big season to come.

Liam has been one of the first names on the team sheet since arriving at the club in February. He’s a calm and composed defender who can play at centre back or full back who reads the game extremely well for someone so young and he’s keen to kick on again.

Jordan is another new arrival this summer joining from Cwmavon FC in the Port Talbot league. Jords is a physical defender who is keen to test himself at this level and will add good competition to the defensive positions this season.

Lewis was last season’s Young Player of the Year and Reserve Team Player of the Year/Top Goal Scorer notching up a staggering 25 goals and 9 assists in the process. Lewis has all the qualities to be a huge success this season. One to watch!

Bryn Rovers AFC

Dan is entering his 7th season as manager of the team and has recently achieved his UEFA C License to ensure the club can continue growing. Dan’s tactical knowledge is second to none and he’ll be looking to get the best out of the players this season.

Every club needs a JP! Our assistant manager has made the transition from player to coach seamlessly and his personality has a massive positive impact in the dressing room. He’s also a true clubman who works extremely hard behind the scenes.

Josh joined the coaching team last November and has made an instant impact with the players. He’s a UEFA B License holder boasting a wealth of coaching experience with the likes of Goytre United and Briton Ferry Llansawel Academy.

The ex-Swansea City YTS & Youth international has joined the club as first team goalkeeper coach this season. Simon is an old school coach who gives good technical advice to our keepers to maximise their performances.

A great addition to the set up!
