BEDINGER PORTFOLIO BOOKLET
Bryce Bedinger For the past two years, I’ve attended Southeast Technical Institute pursuing a career in Media Design. My primary focus is on the Adobe software with an emphasis in Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects. When I create graphics, I make sure that what I craft is quality and original. My name is Bryce Bedinger, and I am a graphic artist from Sioux Falls. I love creating; new ideas exhilarate me. Most of the graphics I’ve made have been in Adobe Photoshop; I’m a big fan of using textures and overlays. However, since I’ve started going to Southeast Tech, a lot of my time is spent in Illustrator and After Effects. I have a lot of appreciation for the versatility of Adobe software. Creating logos, shapes and other original content is a big part of why I love graphic design. When I’m in the software, I feel like I can bring my ideas to life. To me, design is a wonderful visual medium that truly speaks to the hearts of people. Design can touch people in a similar way that music can, sometimes even more so. This is why I love making graphics— why I’m passionate about design. I want to move people with the visuals I create. I want to inspire and shift perspectives. I believe that these goals are obtainable through Media Design.

REASONbehind the logo
BEDINGER
When I started drawing up ideas for my personal logo, I knew I really wanted to capture the style of graphics I normally create. My niche within crafting logos is definitely banner-styled, soft graphics, full of gradients and bevels. My designs don’t all look the same, but they do have somewhat of a similar feel. My logo is a “B hidden within a ribbon. The use of a ribbon itself represents the unity within all of the graphics I create; one ribbon flowing freely in many directions, but still together and controlled. Within the ribbon are two tones of blue. This specifically represents the contrast within my graphics; though there is a sense of unity and similarity with what I make, there is also contrast and differentiation. I believe that the logo I am using to represent myself now is a perfect representation of the season that I am in pertaining to graphic media design. I am more than happy with it!
PS Adobe Photoshop
My first love for creating graphics came from working in Adobe Photoshop. I started in a photo class back in junior year of high school. It was all simple, and didn’t incorporate anything too complicated. I was proud of what I could do within the software. Two years later, at the end of what was an intership at the time through Celebrate, I started toying with making graphics again in photoshop. Nothing really fancy (or even GOOD), but it was enough to respark my interest. A couple of years later, and I’m not graduated from college with a degree in media design. Photoshop is really the reason that I am in graphics. At work, it is still the primary software that I use. I love playing with textures and overlays. In Photoshop, you can bring a lot of your own ideas to life. Check out some of my work!

ID Adobe InDesign
Adobe InDesign has been the one software that I’ve really had to let grow on me. It’s by no means my favorite, but I’m learning to appreciate it’s effeciency. When I started using InDesign, I remember thinking to myself, “There is no way that designers use this software for hardly anything”. Truthfully, I thought that InDesign was somewhat of a “on the backburner” branch in the Adobe family. Obviously, I was wrong. No joke, I’m making this very presentation with InDesign. It’s fast, it has a simple userface, it’s convenient, and it get’s the job done. I don’t think it’s quite as versatile as the other programs, but there are defnitiely instances where it’s a no-brainer to use. Check out some of my work in InDesign!

CELEBRATE DESIGN Getting inside the mind of the Executive Graphic Artist for the biggest church in South Dakota. By: Bryce Bedinger For Ryan Vanderbush, design isn’t a conformed composition on the screen of a computer. For Ryan, design is an experience; a memory; a new sensation. He stands firm on the belief that anywhere we go, there is opportunity for new graphical inspiration. “I get really inspired by the experiences I take in around me”, says Vanderbush. “Simple things like going to a concert, walking through the park with my wife, or even just watching shows on TV. Anytime I experience something, I’m cognitively thinking, ‘is this usable?’”. Ryan Vanderbush is the Executive Creative Arts Director for Celebrate Community Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He began his interest in graphic art at a young age, and says he’s always felt a desire to be creative. Whether it was drawing on finished homework, or even just doodling, Ryan was always finding ways to create. Through school, Ryan grew to appreciate and enjoy Adobe software and all it’s flexibility. Though he lived in small-town Rapid City, SD, where opportunities are few, Ryan pursued any high school graphics class that

he could. After graduating, he ventured to the Mile-High city for Colorado Mountain College. There, he majored in Design and Communications. Shortly after college, Ryan moved to Sioux Falls and began operating an independent design agency. It was then that Ryan started giving his time and gifts volunteering at Celebrate. Along with drumming on the praise and worship team, Ryan was voluntarily doing graphics for the church as a way to get his work out while creating for something he strongly believed in. After a few years of volunteer work, Celebrate decided to bring Ryan on staff full-time as the church’s graphic artist. That was seven years ago, and to this day, Ryan enjoys it even more than he used to. “You can find satisfaction in quality work that’s done, but working for the church and for the Kingdom is incredible.” When it comes to making graphics for a church, Ryan says that he isn’t just interested in making something that looks visually pleasing. Ultimately, his goal is

Welcome is a part of the culture of our church. We believe in making our guest a top priority, even the very second they step foot into the building. There are a variety of ways to serve in this ministry!
Music Ministry We believe that entering into God’s Presence through the avenue of worship music is one of the most powerful ways to encounter our Heavenly Dad. If you have musical talent, talk to one of our leaders about joining the music ministry team!
COLLIDE is a night where we as a church body gather to give praise and worship to the King of Kings. We believe filling our hearts with gratitude allows us to press into the goodness and Presence of the Holy Spirit. To us, worshipping through music is one of the best ways to activate that gratitude. COLLIDE nights happen once a quarter, and are lead by Celebrate Worship. We hope you’ll join us for these nights!
Celebrate Worship We believe that there are many avenues to worship God through; music is one of our cherished avenues. Celebrate has a music collective called Celebrate Worship that is comprised of worship pastors and leaders from all of our church’s different locations. This collection of worship leaders also writes and produces worship songs according to intimate prayer time with the Holy Spirit, and collaboration of music and ideas.

AI Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Illustrator is basically what I think of as the “dream maker. The other Adobe programs are awesome, but none of them bring your ideas to life quite like Illustrator does. Being able to literally pen out what you imagine for a logo, or character, or shape, sign, whatever, is a HUGE benefit when it comes to making graphics. I remember trying to making logos once within Photoshop - I was so unaware!. Illustrator has definitely become my go-to for making original content. I can’t imagine using anything else! Check out some of my work in Illustrator!
