Hilson Aguiar, Krupp Library Periodicals Assistant, was awarded his Master of Business Administration degree at the 2011 Commencement Ceremony of the Bryant University School of Business.

Summer Reading Special Leisure Reading Collection: New and Improved!

The Leisure Reading Collection has recently moved to a new location — it is now conveniently located on the first floor, in the row of shelves across from the Circulation Desk. Leisure Reading books are shelved alphabetically by authors’ last names, and each book includes a sticker with the author’s initial on its spine.

before you visit the library, simply check the online catalog at helin.uri.edu. You’ll find a link to the Featured Collections page, which includes the Bryant Leisure Reading Collection. This page features the complete list of our Leisure Reading titles, arranged in alphabetical order. Click on any of the book covers to open a new window or tab with plot summaries, reviews, and more.

Andria Tieman’s Take: ALA New Orleans This past June, I was honored to serve on a panel at the American Library Association's annual conference, held in New Orleans. The panel’s topic was “The Side Gig: How to Supplement your Income in Tough Economic Times,” and it featured six presenters. I shared a few of the money-making schemes I'd come up with after finishing library school and fully realizing the state of the economy. I had first heard about the panel when a friend emailed me about it, commenting, “this is perfect for you!” I contacted the organizer, who said she would love to have me, and I started putting together my talk. then I went to the store and As the conference approached, I started seeing the name of the program cropping up in other library publications. The Hack Library School blog recommended it, as did Library Journal. Although that was nerve-wracking, it was also indicative of how important the message of the program was to so many underand unemployed librarians out there.

Overall, the panel was a lot of fun. My fellow panelists had a wide array of experiences, so it didn’t feel like we were repeating ourselves; we received good questions and feedback from the audience; and a few people came up to me afterward to say how helpful it was.
