For the past two years, Priscilla Welch has been volunteering as a transcriptionist for the Krupp Library’s collection of World War II letters. Priscilla has helped transcribe letters sent to the Bryant Service Club as well as letters from Professor Judy Litoff’s U.S. Women and WWII collection. She recently completed transcribing the extensive set of correspondence from Saidee R. Leach to her serviceman son, Douglas E. Leach (pictured at right), part of the larger collection of U.S. Women and WWII. The Leach family lived locally, in Edgewood, RI. Saidee Leach’s letters, sent from October 1943 through April 1945, present a highly-detailed example of life on the Rhode Island home front during WWII. Douglas Leach’s book, Now Hear This: The Memoir of a Junior Naval Officer in the Great Pacific War, is avail-
able in the Krupp Library. Priscilla is looking forward to her next volunteer project, transcribing a bundle of letters from Edith Sokol Speert. Priscilla, who has always had an interest in the WWII home front, says, “I feel so lucky to be doing a volunteer job that I just love.” For more information, please visit the Digital Commons at digitalcommons.bryant.edu.
