Trustees extend visionary leadership of President Machtley through 2020 At the January meeting of Bryant University’s Board of Trustees, held January 15, 2016, the Board voted unanimously to extend the contract for President Ronald Machtley through 2020. Machtley has served as Bryant’s president since 1996. William J. Conaty ‘67, retired senior vice president of Corporate Human Resources for General Electric, Chair of the University’s Board of Trustees, said, “The Board is thrilled to extend and retain President Machtley’s commitment to Bryant University thru July 2020. Ron and Kati Machtley’s accomplishments over the past 20 years are truly remarkable and have elevated Bryant to a world-class university.” A record of achievement Having served Bryant with distinction for 20 years, the Honorable Ronald Machtley has already established an unparalleled record of achievement for a college and university president and positioned Bryant for even greater accomplishments in the future. Transformed from a college of business to a university with an AACSB-accredited College of Business that is recognized among the foremost in the world, a College of Arts and Sciences, and a new School of Health Sciences; Enhanced its academic reputation and ascended in national rankings (currently recognized among the Top Five 4-year business degrees by College Factual/U.S.A. Today and 11 th among U.S. News & World Report peers);

Grew the endowment from $107 million to $176 million, accomplished through the success of Bryant’s first capital campaign and another historic fundraising campaign currently underway, which has already raised $53 million towards a goal of $75 million;

Established itself a leader in international education, with nearly 50% of students participating in study abroad programs and new areas of study including international business and global supply chain management; Extended its international footprint by increasing the internationalization of the Smithfield campus and in September 2015 opening a new four-year branch campus in Zhuhai, China, with an entering class of 160 students who will study business and receive the Bryant University degree. A 100,000 sq. ft. academic facility is under construction in Zhuhai and will be ready for the second semester; Transitioned to NCAA Division I, competing against some of the nation’s top champions and earning back-to-back Northeast Conference Commissioner’s Cup trophies while preparing studentathletes with exceptional levels of academic success. Bryant built a world-class Sports & Conditioning Center which opened in August 2015, and is currently completing construction on a new indoor turf facility that will be the finest in New England.
Although typically it is the president who gets most of the credit for transformational accomplishments in the life of a university, it was noted by Bryant’s Board that a strong and talented leadership team has been a trademark of Machtley’s tenure.

In addition, the Board also recognized the significant contributions of his spouse, Kati Machtley, who is the Director of the Bryant University Women’s Summit. Now in its 19th year, this annual conference is attended by more than a 1,000 and has sold out every year- becoming one of the most highly sought-after conferences of its kind. President and Mrs. Machtley, who live on campus, have created a special close-knit community through their personal engagement with students, faculty, and staff, and their tireless President and Mrs. Machtley participation in activities.
