LYNN SANDERS
Lessons in Patience
July 8th – August 30th, 2025
Bryant Street Gallery is excited to present Lessons in Patience, a captivating series of abstract multimedia paintings by Lynn Sanders. Continually in a process of learning and evolution, Sanders creates varied imagery that pulses with life. The exhibit is on display from July 8th to August 30th, 2025. The gallery and artist welcome the public to an opening reception on Friday, July 11th, from 5-7 p.m.
Sanders is immediately recognizable for her signature “tissue paper effect,” a layering technique that interplays different hues, saturations, and chemical compositions. She has invented a personalized instrument that lays paint in a precise, intentional method, creating a multidimensional effect. Translucent hues create new colors when they overlap, while chemical reactions between overlaid acrylics and ink give rise to unexpected textures. Eventually, a sense of depth emerges. The result is an amalgamation of amorphous shapes that overlap and dissolve into each other, creating a surface that feels alive and in a state of constant change as the eye moves across it.
Sanders values improvisation during her painting process. While at work, she is guided by emotions and instinct, which determine the layout of a piece. This flurry of movement comes naturally to her, but is challenged by periods of waiting as the medium dries. The artmaking process transforms into a staccato rhythm of activity, rest, activity, rest, activity, rest. Just as the composition must be balanced, Sanders finds balance in the very action of painting, her passionate gestures tempered by the patience that the mediums demand of her. Spontaneity informs deliberation, and vice versa. She invites the viewer to connect with the unnameable, deeply human essence lying within each piece, nestled in layers of chaos and control, surrender and structure.
Lynn Sanders is based in Lafayette, Louisiana. She is represented by galleries and private collections all across the United States. Her work has been featured in a number of publications, including Southern Living and Atlanta Homes Magazine

Artist Statement:
Emotion is the thread that runs through every painting each piece a mirror to the inner world we all inhabit. These works act as visual diaries of feeling, capturing the fleeting, layered states of mind that shape our days. Rather than telling a traditional story or drawing from cultural narratives, they speak in the language of raw emotion a language that belongs to everyone.
The process behind the work is immediate and instinctual, reflecting the speed and unpredictability of emotional experience. Movement, pressure, rhythm these become the tools of expression. The canvas becomes a space where emotion takes form, where thought gives way to impulse, and where every mark is a reflection of something felt deeply.
The materials themselves are collaborators. Chemical reactions between mediums create unexpected textures and effects echoing the unpredictability of life itself. Delicate, translucent layers float above saturated color, like soft coverings over something burning just beneath the surface. These layers invite the viewer to recognize the tension between vulnerability and intensity that we all carry.
Over time, a balance emerges not of perfection, but of presence. Each piece holds space for both chaos and control, for surrender and structure. These emotional landscapes aren’t just personal; they are deeply human. They invite anyone who views them to feel something honest, to connect with reflected in color, movement, and
