rowth is a critical part of faith. We provide many opportunities for students that lead to a deeper understanding of who God is through worship and study. From corporate chapel to small group Bible study, you’ll find a place to connect with God and grow in your faith.

Chapel

Discipleship Groups

Chapel services at Bryan College allow students, faculty, and staff to come together to grow in God’s Word and worship God as one body. Services meet three times a week and feature world-renowned guest speakers as well as Bryan faculty and staff that inspire, enlighten, and challenge us through a variety of topics. Students also have the opportunity to serve as worship leaders and musicians.

Spiritual growth happens best in small groups that “do life” together. Discipleship groups provide students the opportunity to grow in God’s Word together and find accountability with one another. Led by a current Bryan College student, these gender-specific small groups consist of 4-8 students each and meet regularly throughout the academic year.

ACTS Project The Acts Project is a summer-long international missions internship opportunity. Students of all majors experience how their course of study is preparing them for a life of good work for God’s kingdom. The program is preceded by an intensive semester of preparation. CM420 Missions: Foundations and Applications meets weekly in a small, highly interactive Bible study setting, where students explore God’s call to cultivate the Gospel around the world and study current trends in missions. Once on the field, Acts Project interns serve alongside believers of many nationalities, and live with missionaries who become cultural guides, vocational mentors, and spiritual friends. At the end of the program, students convene for a debriefing week in Italy to process, discuss and move forward transformed.

Study Abroad Italy Abroad is a semester-long program designed to bring together exciting academics, cultural experiences, and personal encounters with a missions lifestyle. Bryan College partners with Saints Bible Institute, located in northern Italy between the Italian Alps and the shimmering city of Venice. The Center is a 200-year-old converted farmhouse compound with two student dorms, a small cafeteria, classroom, lounge, and student kitchen. Its hometown of San Lorenzo is only a few kilometers away from a train station, gelato and coffee shops, and the local market. Spring Break allows students to plan a week-long visit to a nearby European country like France, Austria, Spain, Great Britain or Greece. Other study abroad locations may be available based on major or interests.

Global Career Internships Through the Bryan Center for International Development, students can earn valuable career experience while experiencing another country. The CID partners with a variety of organizations around the world. Through these strategic partnerships, the CID’s Global Career Internship program has sent students around the globe to get on-the-job training in areas such as business, politics, government, communications, and more. Internships are typically held during the summer months. Predominantly in Eastern Europe, each internship is a unique cultural and career experience. The Director of the CID can assist students in finding a Global Career Internship that fits their goals, interests and budget.

FUTURE -

DR I V E N 31

My four years as a student at Bryan were the most formative and edifying season of my life.

Jack Saunders ‘15

S

even years ago, I stepped onto the campus of Bryan College for my freshman move-in day. The August heat and humidity were especially gripping as I began to unload my belongings at the Woodlee-Ewing residence hall, feeling somewhat disoriented in these unfamiliar surroundings. Then a tall, blond man approached me with a broad grin. As he came nearer, I tried to look cool and casual, setting another box on the pavement.

The people at Bryan have shown me incredible grace and hospitality from the moment I arrived.

32

“I’ll take that,” he said, still smiling. “What’s your room number?” Unsure of his motives, all I could think to say was, “What?” Beaming, he explained that the older guys on my hall wanted to help me unload my things. The whole week of freshman orientation was like this. Men and women who loved Jesus wanted to sacrifice their time to be servants of Christ to the newcomers on campus. The faculty and staff I met radiated joy that only comes as a fruit of the Spirit, and the upperclassmen behaved with love and humility. The people at Bryan have shown me incredible grace and hospitality from the moment I arrived.

Jack sharing the Gospel to a group of high school students

My four years as a student at Bryan were the most formative and edifying season of my life. During my upperclassman years, the Wordlview director invested in me as a younger brother in Christ. Like many Bryan professors, he opened up his home to me and the Worldview Initiative team, taught me to love Christ above the things of this world, and showed me how to love my neighbor as myself. After graduating from Bryan with a degree in Biblical studies, I was unsure what the future would hold for me. I had always wanted to pursue vocational ministry and invest in younger students as others had done for me, and I was thrilled to join the staff of Bryan with the Worldview Department. Serving alongside my mentor and investing in students was a greater challenge than I had expected, but the reward was even greater. Soon I was teaching students how to understand our cultural moment through literature, immersive experiences, and life-on-life discipleship. Every day felt like a new opportunity to be a part of the incredible work God has been doing at Bryan for decades. It has been three years since I became a staff member of Bryan, and this summer I will embark on a new role as the Director of Leadership & Culture. Here, I will oversee our new co-curricular program, the Bryan Leadership Institute. Integrating faith, education, and leadership opportunities, the Institute is designed to create a foundation of wisdom for the future. Students will be immersed in learning biblical virtues, spiritual disciplines, time-tested leadership principles, and cultural wisdom in order to become greater servants of Christ who are eloquent and winsome in today’s culture. Our students are encouraged to be selfsacrificing in their families, benefit others in the marketplace, and invite the stranger into their homes to break bread. If it weren’t for the investment of men and women of Bryan, there would be very little to differentiate my life from those who do not know Christ. I still carry many faults and weaknesses, but I’ve been given more wisdom and encouragement during my time at Bryan than most will receive in their whole life. It is my greatest hope to be the kind of friend and leader who can tell students, “Follow me as I follow Christ.”
