To Think of the World Without Mercy Deborah Doolittle

To think of the world without mercy comes harder now that I have known it. The child’s hand that slips into mine so easily, even after we have shouted at each other. That tentative pat on the back and the way we lean into each other without saying a word. The rescued cat that climbs up and curls itself into my lap repeatedly is its way of giving me thanks. And all those common courtesies, like please and thank you, that hold the door open for future conversations. Please allow me to stand aside and let this line hang wide open. @nevadabrushfire unrbrushfire.org
