SUSTAINABILTY By design.
Bideford sits at the heart of the North Devon Biosphere and Red Earth is committed to playing its part in meeting the challenges of climate change by designing a project with sustainability at its core. With the use of renewable energy technologies and a fabric-first approach to design, the buildings will meet very high standards of thermal efficiency resulting in low energy use and carbon reduction.

NORTH DEVON & the surrounding area.
North Devon is one of the most beautiful places in the country. A dramatic stretch of the coast, built up between a stunning array of beaches and picturesque hills and woodland. It is one of only 7 UNESCO Biosphere reserves in the UK. Brunswick Wharf is located in Bideford, a historic maritime town on the river Torridge, rich in biodiversity with a vibrant arts community and with easy access to some of the most stunning places in the area.
THE BEACHES
1
North Devon is famous for its beaches. Westward Ho! and Instow are in close proximity; both feature vast stretches of sand accompanied by biodiverse landscapes, from pebble ridges to the surrounding Northam Burrows. There’s a beach for everyone, from sandy coves to surfing meccas including Saunton, Woolacombe, Putsborough and Croyde.

THE SOUTH WEST COAST PATH
2
A significant stretch of the South West Coast Path loops along the North Devon coast, beginning in Lynmouth on Exmoor and reaching out through Bideford and into North Cornwall. The new development sits adjacent to the path.
THE TARKA TRAIL
3
The Tarka Trail, an 180-mile walking and cycling route centered around Barnstaple, with northern and southern loops winding up to Lynton and down to Okehampton respectively. The Bideford section of the Tarka Trail is just across the road from Brunswick Wharf.

A VIBRANT & ARTISTIC CULTURE
4
The community of Bideford is like no other. It’s a creative place, home to incredible talent and an artistic history and culture - the nearby village of Westward Ho! was named after the book of the same name by Victorian author Charles Kingsley. The Burton at Bideford is a nationally and internationally recognised art gallery and museum set within a beautiful park.
THE NORTH DEVON BIOSPHERE
5
Bideford lies within the North Devon biosphere, one of just seven Biosphere Reserves in the UK. The biosphere is centred around Braunton Burrows, which is protected by UNESCO and contains over 60 Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The biosphere extends from the rivers Taw and Torridge out to Lundy Island. Bideford and its surrounding areas are rich in biodiversity and
regular summer sailings to Lundy Island from Bideford.
BIDEFORD TOWN
6
Even without the rest of North Devon at your fingertips, the town of Bideford is a unique place that anyone should be proud to call home. A vibrant community, full of small and local businesses, some of the best food in the area, beautiful places to walk, cycle, and so much more. Our vision is to breathe new life into the old wharves and create a new space in the town not just for new residents, but designed to bring the wider community of the town together.

THE OPPORTUNITIES Hospitality, Retail & Studio Space A SPACE TO SHOWCASE... There are 8 retail units, 5 artisan workshops, a restaurant and cafe that form three sides of the central square which has direct pedestrian access from Barnstaple Street and old Bideford Long Bridge via the new waterfront public walkway. They range in size from 36 sqm (389sqft) to 95 sqm (1025sqft). We are aiming for the retail and hospitality units to have a designated external “showcase space”, allowing each operator to showcase their offer within the overall brand guidelines. Our aim here is to provide creative and visual cohesion alongside commerciality. We want to create something really special and will promote a commercial “community code” to ensure that all benefit from this unique opportunity to become a vibrant destination of choice for locals and visitors.
