MONTHLY MAILING As The Cycle Begins Anew… Ask anyone in the school business what springtime means and they will, no doubt, tell you that the warming of the weather and the budding of the trees means that students get a bit more restless, the days seem to pass a bit swifter and the bittersweet emotions that so often accompany progress to the next grade level, division or college always lurk in the background. Perhaps more than the warming of the weather or the budding of the trees, at Brunswick, spring has its own unique rhythm filled with traditions and experiences that serve to both mark the point each boy has achieved in his development over the course of this current year while also, by necessity, looking ahead with anticipation to the year to come. Some examples for boys and their parents include: -‐ Kindergarten Orientation to the Lower School -‐ 4th Grade Orientation to the Middle School -‐ 8th Grade Orientation visits to the Upper School -‐ Concerts and plays in each division -‐ AP exams for Upper Schoolers -‐ Lower School Arts Night -‐ AP Studio Arts exhibits -‐ The Senior Prom and Senior/Faculty Dinner And, of course, Pre, Lower, Middle and Upper School Closing Ceremonies and Graduation. From a teacher’s perspective, these various rites of spring each have their place and purpose. Each celebrates the great work and progress of the school year that is drawing to a close and each hint at the challenges and opportunities that await in the next phase of the cycle. Watching our Brunswick boys grow and move on is both a joy and a challenge…every boy is loved in his current stage and will be missed. Yet we seek, with the same strength of sentiment, to ready and welcome each to the next stage of their development. After all, growth and progress are what we are all about, and time most certainly doesn’t stand still in a school filled with boys. Congratulations to all our boys for their achievements both great and small this year and every good wish for next year…as the cycle begins anew.
