WELCOME TO THE VISTAVIS STADIUM Good afternoon and welcome to the players, officials and supporters here from Billinghshurst, for the first meeting between the clubs at senior level. Last Saturday's win over Bedfont earned us a trip to New Hythe & Larkfield in Aylesford (45 mins from EG) in round two of the FA Vase. It looked like being an uncomfortable afternoon when they scored early on but our quality in the final third eventually shone through. More frustration at Lancing on Tuesday though. I thought they were better than their league position suggests but having been 2-0 and 3-2 up it was a sickener to concede a late equaliser. In the position we were in there and at Seaford two weeks ago we ought to be getting three points. Onwards!

EAST GRINSTEAD TOWN F.C. VS BILLINGSHURST
FROM THE
Dugout Welcome back to the Vistavis Stadium for this afternoon's game against Billingshurst. We wish the visitors safe travels back after the game. It’s been an interesting week to say the least! Last Saturday saw us progress in the FA Vase with a solid 4-1 win over Bedfont. A game that saw four different scorers and not one by a centre forward which is pleasing, as we need to have goals coming across the pitch. Tuesday night we were back in league action away at Lancing which resulted in a frustrating 3-3 draw. First 25 minutes I thought we were electric and Ollie Starkey in particular but then bad habits crept in. One thing we have to straighten out is our consistency as it’s developing into a frustrating trait of ours. Billingshurst are newly promoted and have given a good account of themselves especially in the goal scoring department so will be dangerous opponents here this afternoon. It could be a high-scoring encounter! Today we are without Louie, Ollie, Shea-Cascoe (last game of suspension), as well as Leps and Shay Leahy (injury) while Nathan Cooper who returns to the club after a short 48-hour sabbatical away! I hope you enjoy today’s game and as always your support is very much appreciated. Up the Wasps.
Andy

EAST GRINSTEAD TOWN
HISTORY PROGRAMMES FROM THE PAST BY LESTER MEDCALF I have a couple of programmes to share with you for games played in the past on more or less the same date as this afternoon’s 2026 match. First up is East Grinstead v Sidley on Saturday 16 October 1993 in round one of the Sussex Senior Cup. We were in division 1 of the County League while Sidley were in division 2. The weather had been rather unkind with lots of heavy rain leading to a surprise number of autumn postponements. It was now 18 days since we had last played. A league match away to Three Bridges on September 28 was the last time we had played and the programme has a decent match report of it. We had conceded a goal halfway through the first half and then had to wait the best part of an hour before Mark Harris drew us level - and 1-1 was how it ended. The Three Bridge keeper did much to keep them on level terms - it was Dave Tidy who later played in many many games for us. We then had a brief run down of our four most recent matches (including the Three Bridges match above) which saw no wins but did include a couple of draws (again including the Three Bridges match). The other draw had been 1-1 away to Whitehawk after Phil Richardson had given us an early lead with Steve Norris for once missing a penalty. Steve had earlier given us a lead away to Hailsham but we had then got swept away to lose 2-1. And Phil Richardson had given us another early lead this time away to Saltdean in the League’s RUR Cup - only for us to produce our worst performance of the season as we lost 2-1. The programme’s division 1 league table shows us in seventh place with three wins, four draws and two defeats, but there’s no league table to show us how Sidley were doing in division 2. Let’s tell you what happened in the cup match against Sidley. Our performance was “far from impressive” and although we had much of the game the Sidley keeper didn’t have too much to do. However after some 25 minutes we did take the lead when Lee Power was brought down in the penalty area and Alan Lester put as ahead with the penalty. And we did score again, but only 10 minutes from the end when Mark Harris scored. We had won 2-0.
RINGMER BEATEN HOME - AND AWAY Next we’ll have a look at the programme for East Grinstead v Ringmer on Saturday 16 October 2010 in the second round of the Sussex County League’s top knockout competition. This would in fact be the second time we had played Ringmer in October and, before the month was finished, we would have played them again - for a third time in October. The match we had already played was a Sussex County League home match and it was a match in which Ringmer kept on scoring and we kept on equalising, though Ringmer’s fourth goal didn’t leave enough time for us to equalise yet again. Our three goals came from Richard Sinden, Billy Shinders and an own goal. (If you haven’t worked out what the score was then I can tell you that we lost 4-3.) More recently we had visited Peacehaven for a league match knowing that we had only ever won once in 15 away matches against them. The programme has a decent match report of the game though we continued in that unsuccesful “one in 15” vein. Peacehaven scored after some 15 minutes and then again some 20 minutes from the end. However we had beaten them 1-0 at home in the first game of the season with a goal from Luke Piscina. The programme’s league table shows us in seventh place with 22 points from 13 games while Ringmer were 13th with 15 points from 12 games (there were 20 teams in the league). We were to win the league cup match at home to Ringmer 2-1 with goals from Richard Sinden and Liam Baitup. And the game in October away to Ringmer in the league was even better as we won 3-0 with goals from Richard Sinden, Danny Beszent and Liam Baitup.

As an FA Accredited club we also run sixteen mixed junior sides from under 7 ! U16 our Junior sides play in the Horsham and District youth, Surrey and the Mid Sussex leagues. We moved to our current home ground at Jubilee fields after vacating the old Station Road ground in 2006, due to the development of the swimming pool. With the aid of Football Foundation funding we enjoy excellent facilities including three senior pitches, and a number of junior ones. Our main pitch has seen much development over recent years including, hard standing, floodlights, a stand and perimeter and spectator fencing. We are enjoying our time in senior football and as such have competed regularly in the FA Vase and had our best run in this competition reaching the 2nd round. We have also ventured in the FA Cup for the second time this season.
