She has an appreciation for the arts and diverse cultures, loves to travel and entertain family and friends with her husband, Felix, a National Corporate Executive Chef for Nestle, in her Doylestown home.

Brad Sanders Executive Director of Marketing & Special Programs As the most seasoned member of the Chamber team, Brad’s vast knowledge, expertise, and guidance are invaluable. His calm demeanor under pressure and exceptional dedication are among his most admirable qualities. Brad enjoys exploring the Bucks County area at local parks, museums, and shops and also spending time at the beach and the mountains with his family. He’s a classic car enthusiast and a longtime member of “The Road Angels.”

Kim D’Onofrio Director of Membership & Advertising Sales With a degree in Public Relations and decades of experience in Sales, Marketing, on stage, and in television, Kim is well-suited for her Chamber role. Her bubbly personality, desire to connect with people, and strong work ethic make her a driving force on the team. Kim beams with pride when she speaks of her daughters, Alexandra and Gabriella, the most treasured gifts of her life. Although a longtime resident of Bucks County, she is a Philadelphia girl at heart and passionate about her beloved sports teams. “Fly Eagles Fly” and “Let’s Go Flyers” are six of her favorite words.

Sue LaRosa Administrative Manager & Event Coordinator Sue’s ability to make people smile and willingness to help others comes naturally. Her prior professional roles in Administration, Sales, and Event Management have given her a strong foundation for her responsibilities.

She’s a true team player, always offering support when needed. As a resident of Doylestown, Sue brings much knowledge and enthusiasm for the area to the Chamber. She is proudest of her two boys, Alex, a graduate of Seton Hall University and a Certified Personal Trainer, and Jake, a Business Major at the University of Kentucky. Her philosophy in life is simple… work hard, be happy, and have fun!

Margery Vizza Marketing Manger Margery values the presence of tight-knit communities and bringing small businesses and locals together.

Her background in marketing and community outreach allows her to provide support to the Executive Director of Marketing and Special Programs. She is instrumental in developing promotional materials and creating targeted messaging to reach our Members. Her attention to detail and ability to jump right into projects have made her an immediate asset to the team. She is a nature lover who enjoys hiking, gardening, and discovering new places.

Kerissa Arkins Special Events and Digital Media Manager With a degree in Communications and her vast experience in Television, Marketing, Administration, and Event Planning coupled with her friendly disposition and desire to support others will be instrumental in her new role at the Chamber. Having lived in DE, NJ and MD, Kerissa is happy to be back in Bucks County, where she was born and raised. She loves to go to the beach, bike ride and garden with her 10-year-old son, Finn and eight-year-old daughter, Piper. She loves to work out to 80s music and Lady Gaga and loves to catch a Broadway show!

LONG TERM DISABILITY BENEFITS REVIEW

A

lthough long term disability (LTD) benefits may lack the appeal of other more often utilized programs in a company’s benefit portfolio, for an employee who becomes disabled due to an accident, injury or illness, it becomes a critical and much appreciated safety net.

Designed to replace lost income when an employee is unable to work for an extended period of time, business owners have a choice to provide coverage to all employees as part of an employer-paid core benefit or make the program optional and employee paid, often as part of the company’s voluntary benefits portfolio. However, most insurance companies require a minimum level of participation when underwriting an LTD plan, providing an incentive for employers to automatically enroll all employees in the plan and make it a 100% employer paid benefit.

It should be noted that the upside for employees paying for the program with after-tax dollars or paying through a voluntary program is that if they become disabled and receive benefits, the payments will be tax-free.

LTD plans typically have a waiting period of 90 or 180 days, pay 5060% of the disabled employee’s monthly income up to a stated maximum length of time, based on a very specific definition of “disability”. The carrier may or may not include commissions and bonuses in an employee’s income. Of particular importance is the carrier’s definition of disability. The most liberal definition of the term is “own occupation”, which allows the employee to collect benefits if they are unable to work due to illness or injury, in their current profession. On the other end of the spectrum is a definition requiring an inability to work in “any occupation”, making it much more difficult for the employee to collect benefits.

The pricing for the benefit program is based on the level of benefits provided, and the demographics of the company’s workforce, among other factors.

Larger companies and those with prior coverage will usually be required to submit past rate history or utilization information.

For the business owner, it is worth shopping carriers on a regular basis to compare not only pricing but the specific benefits offered by each insurance company,

including any exclusions and limitations. Brokers and benefit consultants typically know the best carriers in each region for various industries and can more effectively shop and compare programs for the business owner or designated benefit manager.
