“Success is loving life and daring to live it.”

From groundbreaking and scaffolding to concrete reality… your hospital campus has undergone a remarkable transformation. Thanks to the unwavering support of our community, Baptist Health Boca Raton Regional Hospital continues to stand among South Florida’s preeminent healthcare institutions.
Traveling down Meadows Road, the new Gloria Drummond Patient Tower now stands nearly complete. Inside, progress is well underway toward creating the state-of-the-art, high-performing hospital our patients and families deserve. The tower will feature all-private patient rooms, advanced surgical suites, and critical care units — all designed with the latest healthcare technology and evidence-based principles that foster healing.
Just around the corner, at the Eugene M. and Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute, the Barbara C. and Irving Gutin Center for Proton Therapy is set to open in early 2026. This cutting-edge facility will bring proton therapy — the most precise form of radiation treatment — to patients across South Florida. Unlike traditional radiation, proton beams stop precisely at the tumor site, enabling highly targeted treatment while minimizing harm to surrounding healthy tissue.
In research, a proud milestone came with the inaugural Scholars Program honoring three distinguished physicians from the Marcus Neuroscience Institute: G. Peter Gliebus, MD, Amy Laitinen, MD, and Frank Vrionis, MD. These leaders embody the excellence, dedication, and forward-thinking acumen that drive advancements in patient care. Their research is made possible through a generous philanthropic gift establishing the Scholar Fund. We are deeply grateful to Bernie* and Billi Marcus, whose transformative grant will fuel the groundbreaking projects of our first three Marcus Scholars.
Philanthropy empowers us to extend our impact, bring hope to those who need it most, and work toward a healthier tomorrow for everyone. It fuels our ability to advance groundbreaking research, champion essential programs, and deliver compassionate care to the communities we serve.
Together, we are changing lives in meaningful ways. On behalf of Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation, we offer our heartfelt gratitude for your generosity, your partnership, and your role in driving lasting, positive change.

CEO,

I am so grateful for the leadership of all those who serve on Boca Raton Regional Hospital and Foundation Board of Directors. Without your commitment, we could not excel at the level in which we are moving forward. The incredible progress of our hospital campus expansion is possible because you so vehemently believe in our future. I will never take your guidance for granted and appreciate all the time and effort you devote to our hospital.

Your Generosity Turns Excellent Care into Extraordinary Care — Donate Today
In January 2022, Timea Keller, a 45-year-old teacher and mother of two, began experiencing unusual bleeding. Initially told it might be hormonal or vaccine-related, she didn’t worry—until six months later, while visiting family in Hungary, the bleeding intensified dramatically. Emergency surgery revealed stage 3 cervical cancer.
Timea’s doctors urged her to seek treatment in the United States, where more advanced options were available.
Having recently moved to Fort Lauderdale from Budapest, she and her husband turned to friends for help navigating the unfamiliar healthcare landscape.
That search led them to the Eugene M. and Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute, part of Baptist Health Cancer Care—a center made stronger every day through the generosity of our donors.
“After visiting several hospitals, I chose Lynn Cancer Institute because they had the most advanced technology and a team that truly cared,” says Timea.

Thomas Paul Morrissey, MD, Director of Gynecologic Oncology at Lynn Cancer Institute
Her treatment was overseen by a dedicated multidisciplinary team: Dr. Thomas Morrissey (gynecologic oncology), Dr. Hina Saeed (radiation oncology), and Dr. Lloyd Berkowitz (medical oncology).

Because her cancer had spread to nearby lymph nodes, surgery wasn’t an option. Instead, her care team used advanced therapies made possible through donor-supported innovation— MRI-guided brachytherapy, intensitymodulated radiation therapy, and concurrent chemotherapy.
Timea’s journey wasn’t without challenges. One lasting side effect was premature menopause. But through it all, her care team never let her down— and neither did her family.
“My kids, ages 10 and 12, were amazing. They helped me laugh through the hard parts, took care of me, and grew closer as a result,” she shares.
Today, Timea is back to living life fully—working, traveling, and planning adventures with her family, including an upcoming trip to Great Britain for her sister’s wedding.
“The care I received saved my life,” Timea says. “Without the technology and teamwork at Lynn, I wouldn’t be here today. I am so thankful.”
Timea’s story is a powerful reminder of what your support makes possible. Your generosity brings together compassionate teams, state-of-the-art technology, and advanced treatments that give patients the best chance for survival—and a full life after cancer.

Many assets, like retirement plans, IRAs, life insurance, donor-advised funds (DAFs), and annuities, aren’t governed by your will. These pass directly to named beneficiaries and are often easier to update than a will, making them powerful tools for legacy giving.
• Retirement Plans & IRAs: These are often taxable to heirs but tax-free when donated to the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation—making them ideal for charitable gifts.
• Life Insurance: Naming the Foundation as a beneficiary turns modest premiums into a significant gift. Plus, it’s revocable if your plans change.
• Donor-Advised Funds: DAFs offer flexibility to support the Foundation and other causes while providing immediate tax benefits.
• Commercial Annuities: Heavily taxed for heirs, annuities are well-suited for charitable giving to tax-exempt organizations like the Foundation.
Making Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation the beneficiary of your retirement plan assets, IRA, life insurance, or commercial annuities is easy:
1. Contact the institution that controls the asset for a change-of-beneficiary form. Many have the forms on their website available for download.
2. Decide what amount of the account value you would like the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation to receive, between 1-100 percent.
3. Name Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation, Inc. as the beneficiary.
4. Return or submit the form as directed by the institution.
5. Notify the beneficiaries so they can claim the proceeds at the appropriate time.
To learn more about the advantages of designating the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation as beneficiary of your retirement plan assets, life insurance, donor-advised fund, or commercial annuities, or to learn more about changing your designations, please contact the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation today.
When life threw its biggest challenge her way, Jennifer Zawadzki found strength in the same message she built her business around—believing in the power of your future self.
Jennifer, known to her friends as Jen Z, is the founder of Future You Project, a company that sends inspirational gifts and letters to lift people up during tough times. Ironically, just as her business was taking off, Jen was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer.
“I dug deep and pulled out every tool I had,” says the single mom, who received treatment at Lynn Cancer Institute at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, Baptist

Biana ManchikSchwartz, MD, Board-Certified Family Medicine Physician with Baptist Health Primary Care
Health. “Life has its ups and downs, but it’s about doing your best and honoring the journey—all of it.”

Her path to diagnosis started when she met Dr. Biana Manchik-Schwartz at Baptist Health. The two connected instantly—which proved invaluable when Dr. Manchik-Schwartz had to share the difficult news and move quickly to get Jen into care. “The collaboration here is incredible,” the doctor says. “Everyone works together to make things happen fast.”
At Lynn Cancer Institute, Ms. Zawadzki was impressed with the multimodality breast clinic, which allowed her to meet with a number of experts in one visit, including breast medical oncologist Dr. Jane Skelton, radiation oncologist Dr. Samuel Richter, and social worker Darci McNally, director of Oncology Support Services.

Jen’s treatment was long and grueling —months of chemo, surgery, radiation, and targeted therapy. Still, she kept her spirit strong, even running her business from bed on hard days. Today, a portion of Future You Project proceeds supports Lynn Cancer Institute, a full-circle moment for Jen.
Lessons Learned, Lessons Shared Her doctors say her positivity made all the difference. “She got dealt a bad hand, but she’s the kind of person who makes the best lemonade out of lemons,” says Dr. Samuel Richter, her radiation oncologist.
Now cancer-free, Jen continues immunotherapy and focuses on inspiring others. Her “future self”—once a source of hope—is now her reality.

From October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025, the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation raised over $71.5 million through 5,702 gifts, marking another exceptional year of generosity. This total includes $71.46 million in restricted gifts and $64,250 in unrestricted gifts.
More than $16 million supported Keeping the Promise… The Campaign for Boca Raton Regional Hospital (KTP)—the campaign to expand and transform the medical campus—which has now surpassed its $290 million goal, reaching $297 million.
Operating and Capital
The Foundation’s three signature events generated $6.44 million, while $43.4 million was released to support hospital operations and capital projects. In addition, $300,000 in community grants funded programs serving seniors, underserved populations, and behavioral health initiatives. Thanks to the unwavering generosity of donors, Boca Raton Regional Hospital continues to deliver life-saving, exceptional care to our community.

A relaxing swim in Puerto Rico turned into a life-changing moment for Susan Morfesi. Her legs suddenly stopped responding—and that frightening incident launched her into a 20year struggle with unexplained and worsening symptoms: frequent falls, memory lapses, loss of bladder control, and personality changes.
“I went from being very physically fit to being a mess,” she recalls.
Despite seeing multiple neurologists over the years, Susan was repeatedly misdiagnosed. Most concluded there was nothing they could do.
That changed when a fall in April brought her to Marcus Neuroscience Institute at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, part of Baptist Health. There, she met Dr. Frank Vrionis, chief of surgery, who finally gave her an answer—and hope.
“Susan had a very treatable condition called normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH),” explains Dr. Vrionis. “It’s often misdiagnosed as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s, but it’s one of the few reversible causes of dementia.”

With donor-supported advanced diagnostics and neurosurgical expertise, Susan underwent a shunt procedure to drain excess cerebrospinal fluid from her brain. Just two weeks later, she was walking again—and even shared her story at the Institute’s annual Brain & Spine Symposium to help raise awareness.
“I had seen eight neurologists without a clear answer,” Susan says. “When Dr. Vrionis said he could help, I couldn’t believe it.”
Now 74, Susan is once again walking, talking, and regaining her independence. Her sister, Maryann, says the transformation is remarkable.
“She’s walking better than she has in years. Her brain is healing. The procedure was a great success.”
While Susan continues to recover and manage epilepsy from the delayed diagnosis, her quality of life has dramatically improved.
“I’m my old self again,” she says. “People even say my voice sounds different—happier.”
Your generosity makes miracles like Susan’s possible. With your support, the Marcus Neuroscience Institute continues to lead the way in complex neurological diagnoses and treatment—giving patients answers, solutions, and renewed lives.
Your gifts help fund the research and continuing education that clinicians need to provide the right diagnosis, the right treatment, and the right team at just the right time. Thank you for being a part of her healing journey.

Boca Raton Regional Hospital’s legacy is deeply intertwined with the heart of South Florida. It began in 1962, when the community united around Gloria Drummond’s vision to bring exceptional healthcare close to home. More than six decades later, our continued growth and expansion remain a testament to the unwavering support of our friends, neighbors, and generous donor families.
Today, we proudly reflect on the transformational impact of a generous and committed philanthropic community that continues to shape the future of Boca Raton Regional Hospital.
Through historic fundraising efforts, our campus has been redefined. The standard of care we provide has been elevated, thanks in large part to the remarkable generosity of those who have gifted the hospital $10 million or more.

In 2019, the first major project to open was the Schmidt Family Parking Facility, made possible by Dick Schmidt, Barbara Schmidt, and the Schmidt Family Foundation. This essential addition brought 972 new parking spaces to our campus, offering much-needed convenience for clinicians, staff, and visitors. It also signaled the beginning of a new era in hospital expansion and accessibility.
The estate of Mary and Harold Perper has left a profound and lasting legacy through a generous posthumous gift. Their thoughtful provision continues to support the Hospital’s most pressing needs and plays a vital role in shaping the future of our institution.

Completed in November 2023, the Toby and Leon Cooperman Medical Arts Pavilion is a modern, multi-level facility designed for outpatient care. It houses the Baptist Health Orthopedics Institute, medical specialty clinics, and physician offices. Additionally, the Pavilion includes a fully equipped Ambulatory Surgery Center with advanced operating rooms and endoscopy suites, providing patients with access to sameday surgical, diagnostic, and preventive procedures in one convenient location.

The Proton Therapy Center will open in Spring 2026 as an extension of the Harvey and Phyllis Sandler Pavilion at the Lynn Cancer Institute. This advanced treatment targets cancer with high-energy protons, minimizing harm to healthy tissue and offering a safer, more effective alternative to traditional radiation. The $64 million project is funded through many generous gifts made to Keeping the Promise, including those from Barbara C. Gutin, Irving & Barbara C. Gutin Charitable Foundation, and the Estate of Richard Blackman.
In 2021, the Marcus Neuroscience Institute (MNI) completed the first phase of its expansion, thanks to a visionary gift from Billi Marcus and the late Bernie Marcus through The Marcus Foundation. The expansion added 9,000 square feet to the clinical physician area, including:
• Five exam rooms
• Three physician offices
• Four staff workstations
• Two procedural rooms with fluoroscopy
• Two infusion bays
• A discharge lounge
• A research laboratory
• A sleep room
• A multipurpose room
• A resident work area
• A secondary waiting area
MNI is committed to advancing neurological care through research and innovation. The new research lab positions the Institute among a select group of neuroscience centers nationwide with translational research capabilities— facilitating a two-way bridge between scientific discovery and patient care.
Boca Raton Regional Hospital is the primary teaching site for Florida Atlantic University Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine, offering ACGME-accredited residencies in Internal Medicine, General Surgery, and Neurology. Plans will more than double the GME space, adding a learning center, surgical simulation center, and expanded facilities to attract and train top medical graduates.
will provide a warm, inviting arrival experience, while the Bob Sheetz Food Hall will offer nourishing dining options for staff and visitors alike.

Set to open in Summer 2026, the nine-story Gloria Drummond Patient Tower will transform the patient experience at Boca Raton Regional Hospital. Made possible by a generous lead gift from the late Elaine J. Wold, the Tower will feature:
• A welcoming lobby with the Louis and Anne Green Lobby entrance
• A retail gift shop and bistro with indoor and outdoor dining
• A conference and education center
• A sanctuary with an outdoor meditation garden
• The Michelle and Michael Hagerty Courtyard and other visitor amenities
• All-private patient rooms meeting the latest safety standards
• State-of-the-art surgical suites

As surgical demand and complexity continue to rise, the Marilyn and Stanley Barry Center for Surgical Care will address a critical need. Located on the second floor of the new patient tower, the Center will include:
• Twenty brand-new, oversized operating rooms designed for advanced robotic and minimally invasive surgery
• Adjacent pre-operative and postoperative units
• Sterile processing directly below the ORs for increased efficiency
This new surgical center will enable Boca Raton Regional Hospital to remain at the forefront of surgical innovation and patient safety.

The Christine E. Lynn Heart and Vascular Institute will also undergo significant enhancements to support the growing volume of cardiac cases. The expansion includes a new cardiovascular outpatient clinic, as well as dedicated Intensive Care and Step-Down Units in the new Gloria Drummond Patient Tower— delivering compassionate, patientand family-centered care.
Each of these extraordinary gifts has helped launch a new chapter in patient care at Boca Raton Regional Hospital. But it is not only the transformational donations that matter—every contribution, regardless of size, plays an essential role in building a healthier tomorrow. Together, we are truly keeping the promise.

The Philanthropy Guild Reception is a meaningful celebration of the generosity and vision of our Philanthropy Guild donors—individuals whose steadfast support enables Boca Raton Regional Hospital to deliver world-class care to our community. Their contributions help fund critical capital projects, pioneering programs, and essential services—from advanced technologies and life-saving equipment to patient care, research, education, community outreach, and outpatient therapies.
To illustrate the profound impact of this support, we invited grateful patient Jen Zawadzki—whose inspiring story was featured earlier in this newsletter— to share her personal journey. Her heartfelt remarks moved everyone in the room. By the end of her story, one thing was clear: our donors are changing lives in ways they may never fully realize.
Jen’s closing words captured the spirit of the evening: “Your support matters more than you know.” As we continue to expand our mission across
South Florida, we are reminded that none of it would be possible without the compassion and commitment of our leadership donors.
“Your support matters more than you know.”

In late June of 2025, Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation hosted a ceremony and reception in celebration of its inaugural Scholars Program. The evening’s honorees, G. Peter Gliebus, MD, Amy Laitinen, MD, and Frank Vrionis, MD, exemplify the excellence, dedication, and forward-thinking spirit that drive progress in elevating patient care.
The Scholars’ research is made possible through a significant philanthropic contribution to establish a Scholar fund. The Hospital is deeply grateful for the generosity and vision of Bernie and Billi Marcus,
whose grant to Marcus Neuroscience Institute, part of Baptist Health, will provide the resources for the research projects of our first three physicians.
As Marcus Neuroscience Institute’s Director and Chief Medical Executive, Warren Selman, MD, explains, “The Marcus Scholar appointment is one of the highest honors awarded to medical professionals within our institution. This distinction recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to medical science, providing meaningful support to further their innovative research and service.”
These Scholars, generously funded by the Marcus Foundation, Inc., are now able to learn more about the causes and treatment of disorders affecting the nervous system — not only from a scientific perspective but also by examining how society and systems contribute to these issues.
The Scholars program will expand the understanding of the structural, scientific, and societal underpinnings of health and disease while equipping participants with the tools necessary to influence care beyond the bedside.

The Philanthropy Guild is Boca Raton Regional Hospital’s prestigious donor recognition society. Philanthropy Guild gifts make critical capital improvements and innovative programs possible by funding new equipment, innovative technology and treatments, patient care, research, education, community services and outpatient therapies. Donations are used to enhance the Hospital in accordance with its most important needs and the personal interest of each donor. Members are celebrated for their generosity with a series of honors, privileges and invitations.
Benefactors make a significant difference in the lives of the patients we serve. Their annual gifts help to provide funding for new and enhanced patient care programs, state-of-the-art technology and other critical initiatives. We are grateful for their generous support.
Individuals who make an annual gift of $1,000 and above become valued Benefactors of the Boca Raton Regional Hospital. Benefactors receive the following benefits for one year:
An annual Benefactor Card which entitles you and your spouse to all Benefactor benefits.
Identification as a Boca Raton Regional Hospital Benefactor in our Hospital system and, upon your admission to the Hospital, notification to Foundation staff.
Listing in Vision Magazine and on the Foundation’s website.
10 percent discount in the Hospital’s Bistro, Cafeteria and Gift Shop.
Annual gifts of $2,500 or more will receive the benefits listed above and are added to the donor recognition display in the Hospital.
* To receive continuing Boca Raton Regional Hospital Benefactor recognition, your gift must be renewed annually.
The Philanthropy Guild honors donors whose cumulative gifts and pledges have reached a minimum level of $100,000 or more. Members receive the following benefits:
Identification as Boca Raton Regional Hospital Philanthropy Guild member in our Hospital system and, upon the members admission to the Hospital, notification to Foundation staff.
A dedicated telephone number, that connects members with the Foundation staff 24/7 to facilitate and expedite needs and referrals.
Assistance with physician referrals and, when possible, in setting appointments with physicians.
Lifetime Recognition on the Philanthropy Guild display in the Hospital. When both spouses are deceased, gifts are acknowledged on the Legacy Guild donor display.
Recognition in Vision Magazine and on the Foundation’s website.
For additional information about donor programs at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, please call the Foundation at 561-955-4142.
10 percent discount in the Hospital’s Bistro, Cafeteria and Gift Shop.
Members are eligible for discounted accommodation in the Rockwell Suites, an all-private room medicalsurgical unit, when determined to be medically appropriate by physician.
On behalf of our patients and their families, we thank the very generous members of our Philanthropy Guild.
